Then going from that back to this game, hoo boy once again opened my eyes on how far this team is from that glorious year and roster.

Too many passengers that need an ass whipping for their work ethic and effort level.

Then going from that back to this game, hoo boy once again opened my eyes on how far this team is from that glorious year and roster.

I didn't see a lack of effort or work ethic. I thought they gave a worthwhile effort.

What i did see is a coach who keeps trying the same thing and seems to be running out of ideas. It took him until the 3rd period and being down 2 goals to try something different and it appeared early on that his brilliant plan was to double shift Kivicantclear.

The team was once again guilty of over-passing and just not getting people in front of the net for a rebound and an ugly goal.

Once Colton got shifted to a different line, he looked more engaged and played much better but by then it was too late.

It was nice to see Necas tries on a different line except for that shift he had with Kelly and LOC. WTF was that???

I actually didn't mind Kylington tonight, or Malinski, but those three should be 6-8.

Malinski was doing the dirty work on the boards and disrupting the cycle. Which isn't his strength.

I've got to give him some credit.

Malinski also produced half the goals the Avs scored this past weekend. Big Sam always plays better when he is away from DeHaan, Middleton, and Shillington- being paired again with Sammy G. demonstrates he needs a better 3LD by his side. Otherwise he is covering for guys who don''t belong in the NHL.

Bednar went full blender late in the game, even to the point of splitting up MacK and Necas. But fire wagon hockey when down by 2 is not the answer, and the lines need to be reorganized from the drop of the puck.

I will also note this team sucks without Nuke, his presence has always made a huge difference in the team's performance.

The bolded to me is exactly lack of effort and work ethic in hockey. The hole of Landy and Choo is huge.

Their effort was putrid. They were consistently losing basically every puck battle and couldn't keep St Louis from cycling us to death. It was laziness and lack of desire all over the place.

One team was engaged and wanted the puck the other didn't. This is a very common theme for this team this year. This team is adverse to bringing the correct effort required to win at the NHL level. If 29, 88 or 8 doesn't flat carry we lose. The other lines are rarely engaged or give good consistent effort or help for the big guys.

At some point CMac is gotta start wondering if Bednar should get the axe. Not getting the most out of the roster, questionable effort level way too often etc.

Most coaches have a shelf life in sports.

Somehow they played better when 4giev was in net. The scoring started to die as soon as a capable goalie entered the net.

People are overreacting as usual, cause two losses, that were narrow. We were better team against Predators, just lacked bit of that puck luck, and then, they had Saros in net, who played well. Against Blues it was not so great, but it was back to back, on road. I would have been surprised if we had won - and if DeHaan scored goal instead of hitting the post, things might have been different. Blues played well, we lacked energy...and again, another 4-nations starting goalie in the net. Sometimes you get to give credit to other team as well, they are not there to roll over and die for us, they have their own quality and good enough players to beat us, when they are on and we are not.

This is not to say, we dont to replace some players, but bit of a purple patch mid-season does not mean we are utterly shit.

At the beginning of the season, it wasn't as apparent because we had a bunch of young rookies in the lineup like Ivan & Pricky and the team was playing way better on the backs of Mack & Makar even though #40 was losing games for us on his own.

Then we made trades for Wedgie & Blackie which gave us a temporary boost and again we got another one when we got Necas & Drury but fundamentally I think there is something flawed with the way the team plays.

I think there are just a lot of coaches out there that have just figured out Jared Bednar. They game plan around how the Avs are going to play and know exactly what we are going to do when we get the puck and counter accordingly. So then, the only way we can win is by having our star players - take their play up a notch and will their way to victory.

For a long time, I wasn't sure if it was MacKinnon that wanted to have the top line 'loaded up' but now I am 100% convinced this is what Bednar wants.

The number 1 priority should be get Mitts off the roster. He is a complete black hole. You can see it in his face and the players he plays with.

I'd take a bag of pucks just to not have him here. Hell I'd even give someone a first round pick with him if they'd just eat his salary.

After that they can consider whatever they want it's not going to help until the coaching staff is gone and we get an attitude adjustment.

I actually think we do have a tiny chance of doing something this year, for that exact reason. It's probably sub-0.5% at this point, but obviously we have the major pieces needed to succeed, especially with our new goalies.

Problem is, it would require two unlikely things IMO:

- Bednar would need to adjust his system somewhat significantly, which probably won't happen, I mean this is the thing that upsets us most about Bednar - that he seems unwilling and incapable of changing ANYTHING.

- Second, we'd need to make at least a couple deadline moves to adjust the roster composition to align with Bednar's vision a little more, which might happen but could also backfire. I don't really mean rentals - the market has been shown to be kind of meager.

We have cap space that we absolutely need to be using. You cannot punt a season at this point in our storyline. I suspect we're currently working the phones trying to figure out moves to pull the trigger on.

I agree it's more stale than anything. However along with that there is a good amount of laziness and lack of effort. Winning puck battles is more effort than anything. Last night wasn't the first night where they couldn't win the puck.

They might be moving their feet but consistently the other team is doing it better.

One could argue that it's become so stale that it's leading to the players mediocre effort levels.

Whatever it is, there is a fair amount of bad effort and poor pouty attitudes out on the ice.
