Watched the game today in London. He skates like the wind. I thought best skater on both teams. Seems to be quite shifty and quick too. Not sure why he has not put up more points though. Tools seem to be there. Maybe lacks IQ? Don't know. You expect more with the skill.

What the heck is going on with this guy? I don't care if Kitchener is a mess, he should be piling up points. Remember when he insisted he wanted to play in the AHL? Woof.

They’re kids, barely 18, of course sometimes they say things that don’t make sense. Just after he was drafted in an interview he was saying that he had never seen buildings as high as those in downtown Montreal (!).

He has to adapt to NA, doing everything in English, living by himself (with billet) in Kitchener, he’s no longer “the kid” he’s supposed to be one of the top producers.

I’m not saying all that to “justify” his pick, etc. Just that it takes time.

He is a playmaker and his teammates don't have the IQ to play with him......it is that simple. It is a shame that he got stuck with such a terrible group.

No on the contrary if he lacked IQ he wouldnt have done so well in training camp, pre-season and wjc

Just watch 5 seconds in this clip... Mesar does a sick stick handling move and passes the puck to sleepy Pinelli

This is why Mesar is not doing so well there, he's playing with kids that can't keep up with his IQ and skills.

I really hope he leaves the OHL its not the right place for him to develop.

We went from the 200 point season to ‘he needs to leave the OHL because it’s not the right place for him’. I see…Where do you see him go? The A? Europe, where he won’t learn anything about the NA style of hockey?

I think Mesar is home sick. Plain and simple. He looked pretty decent at the worlds playing with best buds.

Then had to go back to Kitchener. Far away from his buds and very far away from his family. Had he been far from his loved ones before? Like Slaf had done by going to Finland as a young pup?

They are human beings. They have the right to feel stranded in the middle of nowhere. Remember the Habs’ AHL defenceman from Sweden who felt home sick?

Kid will have to tough it out and figure it out. Because if he is having issues in the O, I can’t imagine what will happen at the next level.

Easy. The Slovak league is already a next level.

Are you saying he came here too young? Because what else is there to learn from Euro hockey, in a very, very inferior league?

Again, learning squat about NA hockey, and he’ll keep doing the same lazy stuff he is doing here.

The Slovak league is a nothingburger. It’s the MLS of hockey and I’m being VERY generous.

The MLS of hockey is still better than the CPL that's is the OHL.

I'm saying he should be in the AHL or Sweden (which were both options). I said from day 1 we're hurting his development sending him to play against kids when he's been playing men. Just my opinion.

Sweden, I would have been in favour.

But can’t he just be home sick? I mean, Kitchener (no offence, my parents used to live in Cambridge) is not very enticing for a guy like him. Also, the culture and mentality are very different.

OK, Kucherov had a blast in Rouyn. But still! Not always fun for those kids to get on this side of the pond, alone, at 18.

Are the Habs not keeping tabs of situations like these? Pretty sure there must be frequent contact and one of the development guys/ other specialists on staff are regularly meeting up with him to see what’s what.

Of course, nothing replaces home but if there is any noticeable impact in terms not adapting to his environment or feeling down as he’s tying to find his way through it, I can think of some things the Habs could do to ease his transition — things that no doubt they know to resort to when a situation calls for it.

How do you know.

I watched the game last night and Mesar looks fair value for his point production. He's not being dragged down by his teammates.

Well that and junior hockey isn't as organized for a young kid from another country. I'm not saying this is the case, but a couple bad apple teammates who know the OHL is as far as it goes for them....

If a playmaker cannot make plays his teammates can finish, he isn't a good playmaker.

Not referring to Mesar specifically but it's a silly argument you're making: "He's too good, that's why he isn't producing or helping his team win"

It is not a silly argument if you have ever played at a high level with low IQ linemates. There isn't magic fairy dust on a playmaker's pass that makes the recipient better lol. If linemates can't read the play properly then they won't be in the right play to receive the pass or they won't understand what to do next....it is that simple. Combine this with poor systems/coaches and a significant drag in production will be the result every time.

How anyone could watch Mesar at the WJC and with Kitchener and not recognize the difference is beyond me.

For me he look like a bust until proven otherwise. Fahrell is a much better prospect at this point and it's not even close.

Watch the replays man... its not that hes too good.. its that hes wired to play with people who have experience, finesse and skills. The Rangers look to be limited and inexperienced.

Mesar did very well in the WJC so to me its the rangers, they're playing a different game.

Strange gong show. Zhilkin, Pinelli, Arcuri produces well. Gong show seems to start and end with Mesar up front....
explain how he scored 4 and 3 points respectively in his first 2 games then.
