Find me 10 habs players in the last 25 years that went from 30 points first season and then 40-45 points the following year, without prior AHL background.
I did not say whether the player had played AHL before by the way. The question was simply whether 30 NHL points or 60 AHL points is better. I think the 30 NHL points is the bigger achievement.
The Habs have not had 10 forwards in total skip the AHL since the lockout so your challenge is not going to be conclusive.
But look around the league. Typically very young promising propsects in the NHL improve in their second and third years. Lecavalier, Thornton, Hughes, Kucherov, and many more.
With the Habs, Saku who was a 21st OA pick, went form 0.54 ppg in his first year to 1.12 ppg in this second year. Do I think he would have been among the league leaders in year 2 (before injury) if he had been in the AHL the prior year? No, he would have still needed a year to adjust to the NHL in all likelihood.
