They're terrible. Already 0-5. Hopefully they trade him to a better team later this year. I'm sure that was part of the reluctance to send him there.

OTOH, he's guaranteed top PP minutes, PK, and ice time in all important situations. Benefit of playing on a crap team.

They have 2 Czech players: (D) Tomas Hamara (2022 drafted, plays on Czech National team), who Mesar should be really familiar with & Adam Zidlicky (2023 draft eligible).

Pinelli is still there (2021 drafted), and they have a 2023 1st round rated D in Hunter Brzustewicz.

There is some talent there, but not a lot.

The GM is Mike McKenzie who is Bob McKenzie's son (TSN).
Will Mesar be principally used as a center?

Wow.... doesn't matter he's going to burn the league with 180 pts. I prefer that than having Houle screw his development.

But i do think Europe will be better for him
OHL is better. Will adapt faster to NA lifestyle and rink size and hockey style.

Best move for the kid.

Mysak benefitted a lot from his experience in Hamilton.

Hopefully, that's the plan. He & Pinelli should be top 2, and Pinelli can be moved to wing if they want to push the offense.
We know that Hughes would like the player to have flexibility by playing both center and wing.

Do NHL teams usually have advance discussions with junior team management about how a player will be deployed by them? Especially in this case, as the Habs had other options.

If Houle was going to use him on the fourth this is the better option. Guy needs big minutes.
It was a HuGo command if you ask me. Kid wasn’t even going to play.

I won’t say I told you so yesterday.

But I told you so.

Where in Europe? His Slovak league? Uber weak league. I mean, the Saguenay Semi-pro (do they still exist?) team would fare well in that league, come on now.

He’ll play 70 + games including the WJ, he’ll learn A LOT about doing the bus rounds, playing on an NHL size rink, having less time to execute, facing some tough customers, and just learning what it is playing on the NA circuit.

You might think he’s the best thing since sliced bread, but it did not hurt Doucherov to come and play in the CHL. And Rouyn of all places.

WOW.

They had the balls to send him to OHL. Very nice.

Now if only they could have done the same with Slaf...

I mean the coach has his porogotive, but, yeah, Montreal would have had some sort of discussion with Kitchener on how he fits with the team, etc., etc., as would his agent, as he needs a billet family now.

Slovak league would be way better an option than the OHL, there’s a reason the Rangers trusted Sykora to return to Nitra. Hopefully it isn’t another slovak who will get ruined in the CHL, the list is running high (Chromiak, Studenic, Roman, Repcik, Kmec, Cajkovic, etc etc).

Why were they ‘ruined’? Because they couldn’t adapt? The NHL is by light years the best league in the world. Me thinks if you can’t make it in a uber weaker CHL, you can’t make it in the big show.

SHL, KHL I would understand. Best Euro leagues that can at least match the A.

Slovak league is much better than you think. ECHL level I would say e.g. Pavol Regenda just made his NHL debut for Anaheim after playing in Slovak league. 22 years old undrafted kid.
But in Mesar's case I agree OHL is the best option.

I can't agree. It has nothing to do with CHL. Studenic has few NHL starts, but is very average player. Chromiak is just starting his pro career, stay patient. Cajkovic has issues with attitude and the rest has never really been considered NHL prospects.

It’s about development. Did you watch Chromiak at 16,17 and the player he was? Kingston molded him into a one dimensional player to help their own players, not for his benefit. The series against North Bay was the culmination of that path.

Repcik was 100% considered a draft prospect. Go watch the 2021 Hlinka games, Repcik looked like a sure top 3-4 round pick. Watch him vs Bystedt and Sweden. Than he goes to Lethbridge and they put him on the LW. Than down the lineup and staying on the wing.

Cehlarik has developed probably the best of our late round guys the past few years and he stayed in Sweden. Ruzicka is the best example of CHL development for a Slovak forward and he can’t stick at all.

If he really tears up the OHL and Laval sees an injury or two up front do they have the option to call him up midseason or is he basically down there until playoffs?

At 16 Chromiak was playing Slovak juniors which is shit quality. He literally just spend 1 full season in Kingston.
Mesar is 1st rounder, compare him to guys like Hossa, Cernak, Kopecky.
