If he can become a prime Tyler Johnson or a poor man's Marner, this pick is a homerun!

he seems solid all around, with exciting offensive upside. We might 3 very good top 9 players that are 5'9 or below (Caufield, Mezar, Farrell). But they all seem like they'll be damn good.

I absolutely love the Mesar pick. His offensive insticts are nuts. With him, Caufield, Farrell as undersized/offensive beasts, and guys like Slaf, Beck, Roy, Kidney, Mysak, etc PLUS the 2023 draft. The future looks bright in all stages offensively. And D is the brightspot. Its an exciting time to be a Habs fan.

Yess, we can certainly have big hope for small players like Caufield, Farrell and Mesar. Today in NHL, it's skill and speed. Habs are already bigger with Slafkovsky and Dach. If they keep Anderson... that's perfect to have players like Farrell and Mesar coming up... just if Gallagher can be tradeable in few years.

Either tradeable or, not technically needing to trade him if we can get rid of other contracts and keep as a leadership role. Depending on cap. Lots of contracts to figure out. But the offensive depth is excting in every aspect

Yes depth at forward is already very solid and they can build around pretty good young talented forward with Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky and Dach. If they all reach their potential... with that prospect pool (Roy, Beck, Mesar, Farrell, Kidney, Heineman, Ylonen, Kapanen, Biondi, Mysak, Rohrer, Guindon, Tuch), that's very solid.

Even if Habs don't have a high pick this year, just having 2 1st pick it's very good for the future.

Hughes can made another trades to pick up good prospects like Heineman and Barron too. (picks aswell).

The depth of the forward corps is catching up to the dcore, and we're just starting the rebuild:

Caufield - Suzuki - Roy
Slaf - Dach - Mesar
Farrell - Beck - Heineman
Rohrer/Kidney - Evans/Mysak - Ylonen
RHP
Simoneau
etc...

We do need a high end goaltending prospects though.
Maybe Dobes and Dischow can become legitimate.

Yeah we do. And those are hard to find. Many 1st rounders bust and many late round picks that no one knew would be good end up excelling...

I wanted Spencer Knight for Chiarot not on top of the 1st but instead of the 1st. Gotta start taking stabs.

Do you think Primeau can become a good #1?

This upcoming season will be telling

I don't have a good enough read on that. I'm glad we signed him to a 3 year deal such that throughout the deal if he's in Laval he doesn't count against the cap. The 3 years shows commitment on the part of the organization to his long term development.

For this year, I just hope he plays a ton of games and minutes in Laval. Because, if he's still not NHL ready the following year, he's either going to sit on the bench in the NHL or be lost to waivers. So, better to get him a lot of games this year. So I hope we go out and get another Hammond if Allen or Montembault get injured.

Even then, we can still send him to the OHL if he starts in Laval and he can't cut it. It's a non-issue IMO.
Mysak played AHL and then went back to Juniors, for example.

Plus Heineman who isn't small either.

And you haven't factored in Dubois yet! ;)

Management hasn't made an official statement regarding Mesar's destination. I wonder if there is still a chance to play in the AHL or its 100% OHL

I would think there's still a chance but he will need to show them a lot at camp. I'm not a fan at all of 18 year olds in the AHL, so unless he's lights out then I hope he's in the OHL and has a great season.

We also have another first from Monahan. Hughes is seriously the best we could have wished for a quick rebuild.

On top of his great skating.. he's just so good in tight spaces and that bodes well for a potential NHL future.

A lot of smaller players struggle when the game shrinks. Mesar thrives.

Thats a huge for the NHL where players are bigger and stronger.

Thats why im saying he should start the year in the NHL and go AHL if its a bit too much, he's got the agility and the finesse, he should be using his 18 years old brains to solve the NHL physicality issue right from the get go so when he's 19-20 it wont bother him. Sending him to the OHL will make him waste time on a facet of the game which he excels already (offense)

Mesar does not need to prove me that he can score 200 points in a minor league, i already know he's got the skills, the IQ. I want him to focus on adapting his play to the NHL, i dont want him to believe hes the next Gratzky because he demolished the OHL, i want him to become a solid puck carrier, play maker playing on the PP at the Point and control the tempo of the game.

I believe this guy has the best work ethic and hockey IQ from all the prospects and he's mentally ready for the NHL.

Yeah Hughes seems to have nicer relationships with more GMs and it doesn't look like he's got a huge ego, thats always good for business
