On top of his great skating.. he's just so good in tight spaces and that bodes well for a potential NHL future.

A lot of smaller players struggle when the game shrinks. Mesar thrives.
Thats why I ended up ranking him so high vs other small players, he projects very well as a future top 6.

He is also pretty snaky and hard to countain.

I want Mesar and Slaf on the top line in the AHL with Barron and Guhle on the top pair of the backend... until the trade deadline firesale!
I'd love for them to win a calder cup this year. The rocket with all those kids will be a force to reckon with this year.

They signed back the good veterans, Primeau will be pumped, i'd love them to win together and translate that back to the habs after.

Yes depth at forward is already very solid and they can build around pretty good young talented forward with Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky and Dach. If they all reach their potential... with that prospect pool (Roy, Beck, Mesar, Farrell, Kidney, Heineman, Ylonen, Kapanen, Biondi, Mysak, Rohrer, Guindon, Tuch), that's very solid.

Even if Habs don't have a high pick this year, just having 2 1st pick it's very good for the future.

Hughes can made another trades to pick up good prospects like Heineman and Barron too. (picks aswell).
They have a lot of prospects but not many really high end prospects. They need a top 5, or at least top 10 pick next year unless a bunch of guys develop really well.

Would be great to get a star, as solid as our future depth chart is. I mean Suzuki and Caufield are looking like stars. But we don't know if Slaf and Dach will be. And you can't have too many.

The more I watch this kid play the more I like what I see. Expecting a very solid season in the O this coming season.

Sounds like that’s not a sure thing. From The Athletic today:

The tricky part for the Canadiens is that we’re told Mesar has made it clear to them he doesn’t want to play in the OHL, which makes sense, especially considering Mesar has been playing professional hockey against men in Slovakia the last two years. He would probably prefer playing pro in Sweden to playing major junior hockey in Kitchener, and that’s something the Canadiens don’t want.

From two days ago; “I think the AHL would be better for me, but the OHL would also be good,” said Mesar whose junior rights are owned by the Kitchener Rangers.

Also, I trust Marek more than Basu when it comes to OHL. But we shall see.

I would think there's still a chance but he will need to show them a lot at camp. I'm not a fan at all of 18 year olds in the AHL, so unless he's lights out then I hope he's in the OHL and has a great season.

He was playing professional hockey overseas, no way he really wants to go back to the OHL and get 50$ a week of whatever it is.

If the Habs send him there, they'll have to find some way to give him a salary. Maybe send money to his family or something.

I vote OHL! Skill/Skating is very good but he needs to get a bit stronger and that can come with one or two more seasons in the OHL.

168 lbs? Any update on his official weight? I personally would not want him to play OHL and get out muscled by a AHL vet where he could get hurt. AHL is a grind. Rather see him put up offensive numbers in the OHL and work at getting to around 180-185 lbs range in the next season or two.

I'm not crazy about Houle coaching an offensively gifted young prospect but I'd still prefer Laval overall over Europe, if Mesar really doesn't want to play junior at all. At least in Laval we can have him work with the development coaches, keep a closer eye, control his minutes better, etc. In the SHL it's all pretty much up to a coach who doesn't work for us and doesn't have to do us any favors.

Laval was the 5th highest scoring team in the AHL last year. His top scorer was RHP and Ylonen was 4th highest scorer, but played less games. I think the offensive prospects will be fine with JF Houle, even if I also don't think he's the best coach for that. I do however think that offensive players will be fine even under him.

I agree that if he stays in Laval, the Habs will have a direct link to him to help him continue his development with Adam Nicholas.

The habs need at least one more really good C with some offense, and 1-2 good D with offense. Dvorak had among the best stats on the team last year, but he doesn’t seem to be the solution. On the other hand he might look a lot better with a couple more really good D.

Dach was the first big swing (sacrificing Romanov) at getting another good C. I'm sure HuGo are still in that batters box and eagerly, yet patiently, waiting for the next pitch they like.

will see how Dach does and we still have the 2023 draft lots of good centers with high potentiel like Bedard,Fantilli,Carlsson,Dvorsky and Yager
