You gotta think with a move like this there might be mental repercussions on the player. He is either gonna get really pissed and work hard to make the real time or he is going to take being cut to heart and never recover (more likely).

Too risky a move unless conditioning or something similar was a factor.

The most likely scenario is somewhere in between those two extremes.

This was the perfect move. We play 5 games in 14 days, he will get more ice time in Hartford at center, a position we need him to play. It's also a good kick in the pants that he needs and I'll go out on a limb and say by the end of the month he is back with the Rangers. It won't cripple him mentally, NHL players didnt get there by being mentally soft and if he is that mentally soft that a short term demotion kills his career then he wasnt an nhl player to begin with. He will be fine and I guarantee he comes back more motivated and consistant with his effort, this probably should have happened last year with him and Howden, it certainly worked with Lias.

wait. lets remember there were concerns last year with his play as well. quinn scratched him and said he needed to play better and give a better "effort". code for perhaps play harder away from the puck.

quinn wants more. its less about who he playing against and more about learning what's expected of him if he is indeed going to be a top 6 forward.

hes talented, hes big and hes fast. but hes also raw, inexperienced and young.

plenty of time for him to be a 2C or a true top line forward. just turned 20.

the message seems clear. improve your overall play away from the puck.

i think this is the right message for him and again, the reason chad and brett are here and hes in the A.

Chad and Brett have good motors. Chytil tended to float and look lazy. Someone else said he might always be a temperamental player, I really hope that's not the case because he has such a good package of size & talent.

My first inclination about Chytil not making the team was "daaamn he took a step back and had a shitty camp!". Then I listened to Gorton and Quinn and it kinda made sense that they wanted to give him top line minutes in Hartford as opposed to 4th line minutes in the NHL. I get that.

I also thought that the Rangers schedule had something to do with it, being that they only play 5 games in the first 18 nights. But then I took a look at the Wolfpack's schedule and its about the same over the same span since they only play a majority of their games on weekends. So its not like he'll get 3 or 4 more games in down there over that span.

So now I'm thinking "daaam, what a perfect opportunity for Chytil (and Kravstov) to be up with team in the NHL since there are only 5 GAMES IN THE FIRST 18 NIGHTS". This would give them extra time in practice for the coaching staff to work with them and almost give them and extended pre-season/camp to get their game going. Kravstov I have much less of an issue with sending down - but you can even make a case for him that this is a unique opportunity to stay up with the team, travel with them and acclimate to the NHL pace of life.

If Chytil still hadn't' come around by then with reduced minutes and extended practice time with the team, then he would prob benefit from the top minutes down in the AHL.

That being said, maybe the Rangers feel like its best for Chytil to go down and dominate at that level and get his confidence back. Show off in practice, dominate the games, get PP time, have a little more space and a little more of a slower pace to get himself back into a confident mode and doing the things that a guy his size should be doing.

He was sent down to work on his game, which we all saw wasn't up to snuff in the preseason. There's a laundry list of players that had AHL time at the ripe old age of 20 and went on to have good careers. It's annoying short term but I am not too worried about the long term, this is more normal than not.

Its gonna be really short term I feel, I think it sends a message and with our schedule the way it is he will likely only miss 5 or 6 games before he is back imo.

I thought this excerpt from Katie Strang's piece on the Ranger's training camp was noteworthy (10 observations from Rangers camp: New faces making big...):

"The Rangers hope that Filip Chytil will fill out that other spot [2c] eventually, but he did not survive the final cuts with the Rangers sending him back to Hartford for more seasoning. The feeling was that he lost some confidence once games began. He started to press, looked a bit overwhelmed and tried to do a bit too much. Still, the Rangers feel he’s got ample skill and is a great skater. They’ll want him to go down to the AHL and dominate, but there’s little doubt he’ll be a part of the team’s' future down the middle."

Since I've always heard / read positive things about Chytil's work ethic, it makes a lot more sense to me that his issues would have come from losing confidence and pressing moreso than being lazy or "not wanting it bad enough". Fortunately, I think those are issues he should grow out of and I don't think it would make sense for anyone to change their opinion on a player based on a few preseason games.

I like the idea of Chytil and Kravstov developing some chemistry together as well. If they really start to read off each other well, the points will come because both of them have so much skill.

Yeah, I like the move from an organizational standpoint too. If Chytil can go down to Hartford and be a dominant 1C in that league, not only will it help his confidence and capability at the position, it will help a player like Kravstov, and even moreso it will help that Hartford team which we badly need to be competitive--even if it's only for the beginning of the season. It's been a long time since our AHL team was any good. If you can help the player and in doing so give that team a better chance for success, you're setting yourself up well to help develop all the other players who need the time there IMO.

There is literally no one in front of Chytil for the 2C role. Just place holders and weak alternatives. He was given the job in the preseason and showed that he wasn't ready, which is fine for a young kid. He could not be in a more fortuitous position; the organization is counting on him to make it and has no good alternatives.

There is no need to rush him. Let him continue to marinate for a while longer. If he continues to play well, then bring him up. But for now, let him keep doing what he is doing.

Was he really though? I disagree that they practically gave him the job. They may have said that, but the teams actions did not show that at all. He barely played with the 2nd line wingers

To me it sounds like he was struggling in practice at the things they wanted him to be better at. That's why he didn't get time in preseason games with the 2nd line.
Always the tough part with evaluating players as fans because we don't see those practices or know what the coaches want the players to do etc.
Probably the same for a guy like Howden...I hate how he looks in games but I bet he practices real well and that's one reason he gets a long leash.

Kid is barely 20 and dominating the A at the center ice position. I think he should be up by now but this kid is clearly the 2C answer for us. Just a matter of when.
He’s dominated a few games, let him dominate for a month or two and he’ll be done at that level. Also he wasn’t sent down just to work on his offense, we all knew what he can do in flashes, he needs to do it nightly and still play a two way game.

He is exactly where he needs to be and - going by my stone age metrics - doing exactly what he needs to do.

Keep dominating, keep building that confidence.
