Can't Beat Him

Anyone think the Rangers should considering trading Chytil? He is too injury prone. Whenever he gets on a good streak, he tends to get hurt. I doubt we'll ever see a healthy Chytil.
I wouldn't trade him this season because we still need him, but as the cap starts going up next season and teams are willing to actually trade for guys with term and salary without asking for retention or other offsets, I would listen for sure.

I really like Fil, I do. However, while I know he's only 24, I have real doubts about whether he's ever going to take that next big step forward from solid middle six guy to legit, consistent top six weapon. If some team thinks they can get him there, making his contract a bargain, then they might offer a really attractive package.

I'd like to find someone to slot in at 2C behind Zibanejad and in front of Trocheck. If Chytil needs to be sacrificed, so be it.

Another head injury for Chytil. Think that's 5 for him
That is speculation based on his past history with concussion. Im shocked he has been so injury prone in his young career. Its not like had a bunch of injuries during his draft or pre-draft. Im a fan of his but hate how whenever he gets going, he tends to get hurt at the worst time. Maybe he needs to get stronger. He has the frame of Petr Nedved but gets injured a lot more consistent

Doesn’t seem like head injury

I saw no head contact with collision with Jesper and he was grimacing and leaning his body on the bench, not the hallmarks of a concussion

I think any time he has an injury the Rangers are gonna be gun shy of his history.

My jam would be if they got REALLY crazy and tried Laffy at Center.

Staple is speculating that it’s another concussion, which makes it 5 for his career so far.

At what point do we begin worrying about Fil actually being able to continue playing?
Was gonna say, might want to start thinking trade, before he has one too many. For crying out loud, he misses so much time already, we might as well bundle him, Kakko and a pick for a good young player.

I’ve heard rumors they’re looking into better headgear for our Czech warrior

Since Staple had stood in for Carp, it seems he's been mostly sensationalizing.
I hated carp because he doesn’t get modern hockey.
I hate staple because he understands modern hockey, but can’t get past his islanders bias.
I don’t read staple for positive ranger articles.
I read Vince M for those.

Gol-dammit. Was minutes away from ordering a Chytil jersey (hope Hockey Authentic is for real). Wondering now if I should switch my choice to:

1) Kakko (/s)
2) Vesey (no /s)
3) Coolie

Thoughts?

Should have sold high on Chytil. He gets hurt every year for weeks at a time which hurts his value.

Watch Cuylle change his number next season. I wish he'd announce that 50 will be his number in the future. 50 seems like an odd choice

When is he coming back? It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since he got hit and he hasnt skated. Thats not a great sign.

You would think at this point he's out until the last week of November at the very least. Likely December. if so thats 12 games and he could be put on LTIR retroactively?

Does that do anything for the team whether he goes on that or not?

What a shame

I know head injuries can be "weird" but from this clip it's hard to glean he even got hit in the head.
I don''t know. Hoping it's something else but if it was you would think he would be at least skating on his own?

I said about a week ago I would not be shocked if Fox came back before him.

Best analogy I heard for concussions is the brain sits inside the skull like jello in a bowl. An impact like that can still get the brain jiggling inside the head.

This. Though it didn’t even look like his head jerked. But even so, as you say, his momentum completely stopped. That’s force.
The other thing is, maybe it’s his neck. There was some talk of neck in the preseason too. Tho that wasn’t clear.

He’s not on LTIR, is he? That’s odd they’d put Fox on LTIR but not Filip.

It’s been said several times in the Athletic that it’s a concussion.

The Athletic is not his doctor. They’re speculating that because he’s had them in the past.
He wasn’t hit in the head, so normally it’s not a concussion, and if it WAS a concussion it would normally be mild. But who knows? Could be ribs, sternum, any kind of torso or neck injury that would make it hard/painful to skate.

Nobody really knows (except maybe a little birdie who told Arthur), but I believe its a concussion.

After two weeks of not touching the ice, its likely the case. Hope you are right though, because those things - while they could becoming nagging, are less serious

You don't need an obvious bonk to the head to have a concussion, especially if you've had them before. This would be Chytils 4th I believe?

Speaking from experience, I've had 5 personally and had to stay off the ice for a couple of weeks because my helmet was grazed at center ice when I was looking in the opposite direction. The next season I got wiped out and whiplashed the back of my head on the ice but I felt fine and had no ill affects and didnt take any time off. If you looked at the replays of both and had to choose the one where the concussion occurred it would be obvious - but you would be wrong.

If it is a concussion, they are likely being very cautious with Chytil if he has any lingering issues, given his history. Its a very odd, specific to the individual injury. I stayed off the ice until i felt better, didnt even speak to a doctor. They have access to so much more so i can only imagine the protocol they need to follow before clearing him.

Didnt Mika have one a few seasons ago that didnt look very bad either? That kept him out a while

This. So if the body is moving & then hit, the skull stops moving as a result, the brain stops moving when it impacts the skull.

Hence, concussion.

No actual impact to the head needs to occur unfortunately.
