Filip has had a terrible start to the season. he cannot handle the puck at all so far and was a big reason for Nashville's goal last night.

There was Chytil — ahem, second-line center Filip Chytil — flying through all three zones with the sort of flair and confidence that the Czech center has steadily added to his repertoire as his role with the Rangers continues to grow.

It resulted in a three-assist night for Chytil, who looks like a player who has been itching for this extended opportunity next to star wing Panarin.

“I thought Fil really took charge tonight and showed some leadership in the way he played the game,” Laviolette said. “He had a tremendously strong game. His line was strong. Laf was strong. Bread was really strong. I thought it was a good effort by their line.”

Chytil has no doubt top 6 ability. The hope is it just needed to come together (between maturation, health and better system) to see it consistently.

Their line has already exceeded any expectations I had. I'm really impressed that bread seems like he's a real teammate for these two kids. Very cool thing going on here. Now, consistently please.

Is Chytil better than Strome yet? And if not do you think he will be by year end? I love his game much more, seems to drive play a lot more. Strome did seem to have better chemistry with Panarin.

It's about injuries.

Chytil always has these 10 games at the beginning of the season where he looks amazing.

He inevitably gets injured and then is back to playing in the shadows.

Let's see how his body holds up this year.

Chytil is definitely better than Strome but you have to admit that the PP hasn't been as good without Strome for whatever reason

How quickly we forget...

I think it was @EdJovanovski ? Who had the Strome highlight video with nothing but missed nets.

I need that link.
Missing empty nets isn’t bad hands, it’s just bad shooting and not good at pressure.
Trocheck fumbles the puck far more than strome, which on power plays is critical, when trocheck barely touches the puck the power play makes crisp passes and one touches. Trocheck slows it down significantly

Strome was really good with puck recovery down low and resetting the PP after a missed shot or pass. That was an underrated part of his game on the PP that flew under the radar a bit.

Trocheck isnt nearly as good in that regard, or in his passing on the PP but still has some value there digging into double teaming pressures.

Ill take Trochecks faceoff and defensive play 5 on 5 and his PK ability over Strome's more one-dimensional game any day though. Thats why that change was made.

I don’t disagree on that second part,I was just commenting on what impacted our pp1.

Feel like Gorton dropped the ball on the Strome situation. He was an RFA after a couple solid seasons here. They chose not to trade him and gave him that little 2 year deal after the 19-20 season. Chytil had 2 seasons under his belt at that point. Still very green, so it's fair that they didn't feel comfortable handing the keys over. But this was a rebuilding club, a missed opportunity to grab a little something in a trade and grab a different stop gap in free agency. Chytil followed it up with a solid season, half a point a game in the shortened season. A 42 point pace playing 13 minutes a game. That was at 21 years old, on a line with Kakko and Lafreniere.

You could play what if all day.. but it's interesting to think how that 20-21 season might play out if they move Strome and pick up say a Chris Tierney or Erik Haula at the time to fill out the middle. Maybe Chytil gets that 2C next to Panarin. Obviously thats not how things played out, the following season he struggles playing 13 minutes a game on a line with Gauthier and Laf. Good chunks of Goodrow, Hunt and Blais as well. The deadline deals come in, the kid line returns and he has a dynamite playoffs. The talent was there. People were VERY down on him that year (21-22). That initial line really struggled to generate anything. It reflected poorly on him.

Who knows.. maybe we would've saw the last 3 years Chytil developing chemistry, learning how to play with Panarin. With Strome off the books you have enough money to re-sign Buch. Lots of what if's. Strome was a good Ranger, but that was a strike against Gorton. A missed opportunity

I dont think he is, but he adds speed and a better forecheck that Strome did so that helps. He misses too many games though, if you can't stay in the lineup you're no better than the worst player in the league on those games. Strome has more balls and a better connection with Panarin and better hands for the pp. Vatrano having a career year playing with Strome just sayin.

Anyone think the Rangers should considering trading Chytil? He is too injury prone. Whenever he gets on a good streak, he tends to get hurt. I doubt we'll ever see a healthy Chytil.
