Actually its worse.

All the suffering of delaying then begrudgingly attempting the rebuild is thrown out the window.

Imagine being Kaliyev, now knowing there is little chance at top 6 minutes for years to come.

Imagine being Turcotte, seeing Boldy, Hughes, Zegras and Caufield getting actual top 6 responsibility while being paid 15 times the Target Assistant GM level paycheck you are drawing - and are guarateed to draw again next year - behind TJ Tynan on the 2nd unit.

Imagine being Vilardi and JAD knowing there is literally nowhere for you to play now that you are out of options and just waiting to find out where you are being traded to start proving yourself all over again.

Imagine being Byfield, sitting watching both the Kings and Reign lose winnable series without you, knowing the next mistake will cost you another game or two.

How are these kids supposed to develop the confidence to improve knowing what's in front of them - on a mediocre team? Its not like they are being boxed out of a contender, this is still a 50/50 playoff squad with Fiala.

Kopitar has never played well with a puck carrying winger. Forget about on paper stat stuff, look at the styles of play and see if they match. Anze doesn't do anything offensively away from the puck, and Fiala always dominates it. Its not a complimentary set up. Might help Kempe, though.

Its indicative of the belief that Kopitar, Doughty and Quick are the better bet to succeed instead of grooming high end prospects. Completely disagree with that on principal. Its the wrong bet to take, and its out of hubris and hope, not intelligence. Its just going to limit the high end potential while increasing the likliehood of mediocrity - with the bottom falling out once Kopitar falls off the cliff.
Imagine being Kaliyev, and knowing you are going to have to continue to work your ass off and probably end up playing better than you knew you could.

Imagine being Turcotte, and knowing that you have to get better awareness on the ice because you are now much smaller than professionals and need to not get injured so you can... actually play hockey games and try to be as good as your buddies.

Imagine being Vilardi and JAD, knowing that you haven't played well enough to establish yourself on a middling roster.

Imagine being Byfield... Hell, I can't because I barely remember being 19. But I'm pretty sure I was playing Sonic on the Genesis, not experiencing the cup playoffs firsthand. I doubt QB gave one shit that he wasn't playing and was stoked to have that opportunity. Also, imagine being a 2OA pick, playing 46 NHL games and having 2 more points than Jordan Nolan, who was drafted in the 7th round and averaged 3 minutes per game less than you on the 4th line.

If any of those guys are sulking about their roles, there is an option: play better. It's 100% on them to do it.

If you read what they are saying its not like that. They dont hate Fiala and its not about the cost. Its about the implications for the players they drafted during a rebuild all in attempt to get Kopitar players to play with again.
I get both sides. I will probably only really be unhappy with the moves if they trade guys like Turcotte and Vilardi and they break out on other teams and we still have Kopitar and Iafallo on the powerplay unit and top overtime unit not getting the job done.
Lets not use Kopitar as a bar for points anymore either after that display against the Oilers. He didnt have one offensive play I can even remember that entire series.
If your a first round draft pick and you can't outplay Blake Lizotte then that issue is with the 1st rounders play. Blake Lizottte didn't get minutes handed to him, he didn't get a top 6 role to show what he can do. Theres 5 spots available in the bottom 6 after Lizotte, if they can't take one of those then they need to improve their play.

JAD did beat him out the year before last. Then neither had a good camp last year and Lizotte only made it cause of injuries and JAD not needing waivers. There will be 4 spots if you take one away for Lemieux/Deslauriers role player. Grundstrom will probably get another. Byfield, Kaliyev, Kupari probably get the other 3. Its actually a solid bottom six.
JAD is a 13th forward and Turcotte will get his shot if a center gets injured. Think Vilardi is a goner?
Also forgot now that Fiala is here Iafallo is in the bottom six. Itll be competitive for a spot.

Now the firstline will be on plus instead of minus when it comes to +/- stats.

Then Jacob Chychrun for:

Turcotte - '22 firstrounder - Fagemo - Walker - Grans

PS. NEUTRAL zone trap.

And I understand the worry and confusion on where the younger prospects play but

Kopitar ufa in 2 years
Arvidsson ufa in 2 years
Moore ufa in 1 year
Roy ufa in 2 years

The spots will open up when these guys are 21-23. Until then players like Turcotte for example, just need to focus on playing a season without getting hurt for long periods of time.

If and big if Todd can actually even out the minutes a 3rd line can play 14-15ish minutes a night. Let the Kings run PP2 and even out the PP minutes.

Kempe-Kopitar-Fiala
Kaliyev-Doughty(probably should be Durzi but w/e)

Moore-Danault-Byfield
Arvidsson-Durzi

With the option of moving Moore for someone else. Like Turcotte or Vilardi.

Jesus dude, do you need a hug or something?
It's very telling the number of people who look at any critique as:
"Go be a Ducks fan"
"Same people who want to be miserable"
etc.

I appreciate those who have responded and engaged in honest discussion, even if you disagree. I get why you are excited. In other circumstances, I'd be excited, too. But right now, I am not. A handful of others are not excited now either. For reasons already discussed.

If you cannot handle that, where you question the fandom, knowledge, or intentions of people who disagree with you despite consistent stances presented historically, piss right the hell off.

Barring anything else particularly illuminating, I'll probably bow out and just read the thread. So enjoy your celebrating.
I cant remember when the last time you were excited at all on this board

Yeah, I’m typically very cynical when it comes to this team, but I like this trade a lot. We have a billion RHDs and the 19th is a huge question mark. Fialla is a great player RIGHT NOW.

Blake has quietly amassed some serious forward depth just through timely trades and free agency.

If Byfield takes a big step forward next year, we will be very difficult to match up against.

Watch Faber explodes in Minnesota. Hoping he amounts to nothing now. Lol. Dayum was actually looking forward to see who the Kings were going to draft oh well.. Too high on the annual salary for Fiala. But I'm alright I guess.

Over the past three seasons, Fiala ranks 32nd overall in NHL scoring with 179 points in 196 games, the same exact amount of points as Anze Kopitar, who has 179 points in 207 games. They are both tied with Alex DeBrincat as well.

Fiala's 76 goals over the past three seasons ranks him 26th overall in goal scoring in that timeframe. Filip Forsberg has 75 goals. Kempe has 60 goals in the last three seasons.

Check out some of the names Fiala has outproduced in the last three years.

Svechnikov, Point, Bergeron, Forsberg, Ehlers, Kuznetsov, Landeskog, B. Tkachuk, Dubois... just to name a few.

Fiala is easily the most talented player the Kings have acquired since Ziggy Palffy.

From even another angle, he's 17th in the league in 5-on-5 points per 60 minutes of ice time the past 3 seasons for players with more than 1500 minutes of ice time. Some pretty good company on that list!

I quite like the trade, the $ are high but probably fair.

The concerns about how his scoring will translate to LA are perhaps overblown.

Fiala has played for Nashville and Minny, two teams that I considered to be more defensively structured , with an emphasis on D, like us (at least in the past, i havent had the chance to watch as much hockey over the last few years though)

Surely a guy coming from that background will be more likely to have success here than a player used to a run and gun style.

I think JAD is a goner and also Iafallo and Walker
Also, I believe Durzi will be traded to recover first round draft pick or in Chychrun trade.

seems to me scoring begets scoring....Arvidsson and Danualt come in and scoring improved. Why? they had basic offensive skills and younger than the guys they replaced. Now you add another point producer to the mix- naturally scoring will increase across the board. Even with 1/5 reduction of goal scoring he still would have been on the team. I fail to see how adding Fiala somehow makes the team worst or interrupts the long term strategy.

I think our kids will get their top six opportunities when injuries hit. RV is a guy who seems to miss a couple weeks here and there. And with his style of play, no one will be surprised if that happens again.

Kopitar has a 99% chance of playing the full season because he’s Anze Kopitar. But we saw another horse in Doughty get hurt twice on bullshit plays. So it’s going to be a tougher season for a team that’s looking to win a bunch of games. The kids should get their chances at forward this year, like they did on D last year.

Seems like a steep price for Fiala, who is coming off his best season. Are we sure he's ever going to reproduce the same numbers ever again? It's a risk. He was in a contract year. How often do we see players have a crazy season in a contract year and never produce again?

Sounds like Faber didn't intend on signing with LA, so including him makes sense. The 19th overall was obsolete as our pool is so steep and adding another mid first round pick who won't make an impact until 3-4 years down the road never made sense.

Just wondering if maybe we could've landed a better/more established player with that package? I'm not sold on Fiala simply because we haven't seen this type of production consistently. It's a risk but I respect risks. Danault was a risk and a lot of money; that turned out fine.
