You dont think so? Maybe some tweaking but they seem decent to me especially #2 since its 2 young dmen

Odelius is having an extremely unproductive draft + 1. Bolduc is tracking well after falling off last season but is 22 years old and would need to be able to jump into the NHL immediately otherwise the odds he’ll ever is against him. The 1st will be late.

It’s two C-tier prospects and a late 1st. There’s nothing of impact there for the best player available at the deadline in years. They should be looking for at least one high-impact piece. I’ve argued before the only player the Islanders have there, that they’d be willing to trade, is Romanov. Their prospects are underwhelming and their draft picks will all be late in their rounds.

Bear is certainly someone we should keep, I just hope they negotiate a reasonable term and hit for him.

As for Hughes - watch us lose the one top tier defender we’ve managed to draft in 50+ years. Sigh.

Maybe I'm late to the party, but wouldn't the Devils want to pick up Hughes? They have tons of pieces and having all the Hughes bros would be huge for their marketability.

Trading Hughes would be ridiculous. We've never had a defenseman as dynamic as him. Think of how brutal the defense is when he's sick or hurt. There's literally nobody to replace what he brings. Losing Hughes would hurt the team more then almost anyone.

sure there's a personal side to why New Jersey would want Quinn Hughes.

But its makes little sense on the ice. They already have Luke Hughes in the pipeline.

Unless you run 2 dman on the 1st pp, any team that has someone already in place for the PP Qb role wouldn't get the full value of having Quinn Hughes.

Looking at their team, a power forward to compliment their speedy forwards and add another element of grit so that they won't be pushed to the perimeter in the playoffs should be their primary target.

The thought of trading anyone on a garbage team shouldn't be ridiculous. It's all about the return.

Think of how brutal the defense is when he's sick or hurt.

I mean, slightly more brutal than when he plays I guess?

There's literally nobody to replace what he brings. Losing Hughes would hurt the team more then almost anyone.

It's not about directly replacing what he brings, it's about building a better team. If you can hypothetically trade Hughes for a blue-chip defender capable of playing hard minutes defensively along with say a two-way center who can defend leads, kill penalties and contribute then you might end up a better team.

And despite all that, I agree losing Hughes would be massive. I assume 99% of the fan base thinks that. I just don't think management should be closed-off in terms of options.

It makes no sense - they already have Hamilton anyway. It's more just lazy-fan generated stuff. There are 20 other teams that make more sense for a Hughes deal than NJ.

32 Thoughts Today:

-believes Horvat has instructed his side not to negotiate during the season; Canucks can present offers but Horvat's side will not initiate
-Canucks want to move salary
-will have no problem trading Tyler Myers after his bonus is paid out; plenty of teams that will be very happy to pay him 1m to play for them
-Canucks don't want to trade away any other draft picks; want to get back their second rounder they traded earlier; don't want to attach assets to get rid of players
-willing to move a core player to accomplish this; at least one, and have told people it's not Pettersson; "Pettersson is the guy"
-Hughes isn't on the block
-if you're interested in Hughes, it will take an enormous offer
-understand they "need to do this" and not just cap-dump deals; "this" being trade a core player
-can see them trading someone for picks and prospects if they believe it will give them flexibility to do something else
-believes they will extend Ethan Bear
-Marek asks about Miller and Friedman says the only thing he got is, again, Pettersson is the only untouchable
-Vancouver is motivated to do things
-believes that the David Pastrnak negotiations, same agent, will affect Pettersson

This “instructed his agent not to negotiate” is of course a negotiating tactic. Why should Horvat’s agent present a counter offer? They feel pretty confident the Canucks have yet to make their best offer and have no incentive to make it easier for them.

I like Hughes but not sure this team is going anywhere with him as their number 1. Way too many flaws. Given the team needs a rebuild he should absolutely be dealt

The weird thing is him saying they are looking to move out one or two core players. We can all assume one is Horvat but who’s the second? Boeser has little to no to negative value so he doesn’t accomplish Friedman’s second point that moving out a core replenishes the draft stock. That really only leaves Demko, Miller, and Hughes.

Myers is during the off-season. Mikheyev they just signed. Maybe Kuzmenko but I think they want him long term. Garland isn’t a core piece. OEL is one of the worst contracts in the league.
