Has this management group really not figured out you can use picks to get players you want? Do they think there’s some rule where you can’t trade picks you’ve acquired?

Hockey trades are so hard as you a) have to find someone who wants to do one b) that partner has to have a player they are willing to give up that you want c) the player has to be the correct position you want to fill and d) the cap has to work out. Oh and there may be a NTC involved as well.

TAKE THE BEST PACKAGE OF PICKS AND PROSPECTS AND USE THOSE PICKS AND PROSPECTS TO ACQUIRE PLAYERS YOU WANT.

This really is not rocket science. How are there still GMs operating in a pre-cap world? I’m dumbfounded.

Looking at what CBJ has in the pipeline, they have what we need.

Johnson and Sillinger as C prospects.

Jiricek and Ceulemans as RD prospects.

If we could pull any of:

Johnson + Ceulemans
or
Sillinger + Jiricek
or
Sillinger + Ceulemans + 1st
or
Johnson/Jiricek + 1st

That would be huge for what we need (and seemingly gives them what they need given their interest in Horvat).

Its not happening. Cbj isn't trading for a Ufa. Canucks arnt letting teams talk extension. The players you mentioned are unavailable, the picks are lottery picks. Expect Age Gappers that fill needs and late firsts. Expect Bonino, Pizza and 1st.

Then substitute Miller for Horvat and subtract. Or keep it the same but take back a bad contract.

Columbus won't worry too much about him being a UFA, they know Vancouver will destroy the team for next 3 years if they sign him.

They don't want to wait a few more years for prospects to develop to the level of Horvat, at some point the need is for at least some veterans.

Lots of good possibilities here.

I wonder if Miller would suit them? Or would they just go for O'Reilly instead?

Take back less if he was dealt there and it is close to his birth place.

Voracek is a trade possibility coming back

Canucks arnt letting teams talk extension.

Where was that said? I know that was the case with Miller but haven't heard that about Horvat.

If the team is going to trade Horvat, they need to get on it before the market is cluttered by Toews, O'Reilly, etc.

It has been “reported” that it’s believed the Canucks are not willing to let teams discuss an extension with Horvat.

The key part that’s missing is that the Canucks just started soliciting offers.

Are we trading them Pettersson instead of Horvat for those packages?

Can already see mgmt screwing up a Horvat deal like they did Miller.

Honestly. Who gives a shit if another team wants to talk extension if you are going to deal him?

The only explanation is they are still thinking of trying to re sign him.

It’s insanity.

Kinda been hard to watch games lately with such continued bozo ownership and management. Like the last five years of Benning we kept watching, knowing it was almost over. Took way longer than logically should have, but it did eventually happen

And now over a year later the same problems exist and it appears the same direction and strategy is in place. Like I love the Canucks and all but finding it a waste of time watching anymore. Even spending less time here regarding the rumours as it feels like itll be another letdown

Yes golden rules should be sell at deadline expiring contracts and off season for draft picks not of that year but the next draft.

it’s safe to say, the ownership is really in charge and the management is just puppets.

Yeah, starting to get that vibe. New management feels the same as the old management because ownership hasn't changed. This year should be a re-build gimme with Demko going down and Horvat wanting out. Take the down year and position yourselves for a stronger future around Petey / Hughes. FFS.

So with FrAq being 53.... my options are to either support another team or to just outlive the bastard at this point.

Lol at everybody who thinks they have this management figured out and that they are Benning 2.0. The majority of the moves made have been good, resigning Miller was fine, the team has been trying to move bad contracts for over a year now, they aren’t panicked to making knee jerk moves

Let them get through 2 deadlines and 2 drafts/free agency before you label them

The moves will come

Same things were said about Benning too..."give him a chance", "he hasn't had enough time!", "But Gillis!!"...I'm not saying these guys are as bad as Benning, but they're currently on the same path.

Except look at the targets that Benning was going after. Freaking Sbisa was a considered a prime target. Pro scouting is a very large part of being successful with your moves.

The difference for me was that there was still hope with the kids we had drafted in the first half of Benning's reign of error. Demko looked amazing, Boeser had promise, Petey was breaking records and Horvat seemed like our forever captain, Hughes, etc. The last 2 years though, Benning traded traded our 1st round picks so there is like zero hope on the horizon. The team is broken and there's nothing in the pipeline with the promise possibility of fixing it. Even Lekkerimaki is underwhelming this year. Right now fans have what - Klimovich, RePetey and like... Kudryavtsev to look forward to turning things around? Last year there was hope that maybe the Bruce Bump would continue too. Now - nothing.

Management that, Management This
It's obvious it's completely ownership.
Your telling me a guy like Rutherford coming off two cups would come to Vancouver to Rebuild?
Even if he knew that is the right call, Let's be Realistic here, It's The ownership once again telling management that we will not Ever do a full proper rebuild.

So this is why the messaging from Benning and Rutherford are so similar, from the age gap, to the retool, etc
It's completely Ownership.

And what happened when you want a full Rebuild? You get fired like Linden did.

I just hope we don’t end up with the ‘Kesler’ return. It’s definitely a possibility though. And it wasn’t a terrible return so much as it could have been much better had they been willing to be more patient and take futures. But they wanted a replacement C and a young dman. Sound familiar?

You could be right...but that doesn't mean management gets to hide behind the excuse of "but...but ownership wanted us to!" if their strategy fails. If they agree to take the job and agree to the owner's conditions they're all on the hook...the owner just gets to keep his job in the end.
