At that point Colorado is not a trade partner. Besides their 1rst draft picks will be like 2nd rnds.

I still think Columbus is a prime trade partner, with the signing of Guadreau they opened their window or opened it more. They are definitely a team I can see improving by 25% easily next year.

Washington would be good for one r two of their 1rst, I think they will step back because they have too many aging players that can decline quickly

The trick of getting any of this year's firsts' is preferable to next year's even high 2nds, pick #'s 33 to 40 and then trying to work out a deal.

Who he is playing with
I'm not sure if acquiring a 1st is exactly their top priority. They're likely more interested in Newhook/McMichael/Sillinger

Bitched incessantly? As in a few posts exchanged between me and myself? Um sure. I've seen far more posts of yours whining and crying about how 8x8 would be an appropriate contract. If what you said was accurate, it would be true that some of his current success is related to playing with Miller. Do you believe that? I don't.

They don't even seem like particularly good linemates, as per usual he just does his own thing and as per usual a huge portion of his goals from the power play. Again - he's also riding an unsustainable shooting percentage.

I mean he's having a good year, good for him. Doesn't change who he fundamentally is as a player or my views on him whatsoever.

Youd think a lot of production would change ones opinion.

JT Miller isn’t the same player he was at 26. I bet you think he’s closer to what hr currently does than what he did 5 years ago.

Calling it “Crying and whining” about trying to eliminate emotions and explain why Horvat or better yet a player with Horvat’s resume and characteristics is worth something on the market is a strange comment.

You criticized Bo regularly. I pushed back. Disagreed with your reasoning. Explained myself with examples.

I just found it funny when the script got flipped on his production levels, the production became a red flag.

Horvat is clearly imo a player who is worth 9-10% of the cap. Would I want him cheaper here? Yes.

I’ve been saying for almost a year that anything in the 7’s is team friendly. Then he went and started scoring goals at a 50+ goal per season rate and his price has climbed.

Career resurgences like this always lead to questions. Was it a fit or coaching problem? Personal issues that got sorted out? Injuries finally abated and they learned how to play around them? Steroids? Or just a fluke thing and they'll turn back into a pumpkin?
I presumed his hip surgery took away his mobility for good.

I watched him play quite a bit and it never looked like he wasnt trying. He played physical. But his skating was incredibly inefficient.

This year its night and day difference. What ever the cause, Im happy for the guy. I had written him off for sure.

I always wonder when a player has a late career surge if you can't point at some kind of PED.

I kind of presume all north American pro athletes are on every single thing imaginable they can get away with.

Off topic but have you guys seen Benn this year.

He looks like.. twice as fast as last year. How?!

For veteran turnarounds like this, it usually comes down to losing weight, and managing minutes. Benn is averaging 15 minutes a game, down 2 minutes from last season and the lowest in his career since his rookie season. He's also playing down the lineup against worse competition, which can make a difference.

If Canucks management is ever able to add some decent defensemen help carry the load (hah!) you'll see a similar turnaround for OEL.

Also, for all the OEL angst this year, on a team that's getting its teeth kicked in Corsi-wise, the OEL-Bear pairing is the only one that is keeping its head above water possession wise. In pretty tough minutes, too.

It was a massive f*** up not to trade Miller at the TDL. But massive f*** ups are all that is possible under this ownership.

And f*** JR for talking a shit-ton of BS and not following through.

The rumoured offer was Chytyll, Lundkvist and a 1st I believe. Chytyll is on pace for a 50+ point season this year and Lundkvist was dealt for a 1st+, so basically Chytyll and 2 1sts. I hated the offer at the time but is looking like a huge missed opportunity.

Yeah…in hindsight it’s a very good offer. I can’t fault them for not taking it. Everything to do with Miller afterwards? Definitely.

Can we fault them at least some?

I thought the value was worth trading Miller at the time... But, Im not very high on Miller.

I mostly disliked it as I wasn’t a fan of Lundkvist’s fit with this team and didn’t expect him to still have 1st round pick value. But to think we could be going into this offseason with Pettersson/Horvat/Chytll at center, 2 additional prospects selected with 1st round picks, and an additional $8M(minus what Horvat’s extension would’ve been if signed when Miller was re-signed), and it’s a big loss. Instead we have Miller at wing and potentially two huge holes at center.

No Horvat for Dave Gagner

According to CapFriendly, the Avalanche are projected to have about 5m in deadline capsapce. Now that's not accurate since it's based on LTIR and Landeskog is due back in the middle of January. To make a cap neutral trade with Colorado, Canucks will need to retain as much as possible on Horvat's contract and take back two contracts (Compher = 3.5m, Cogliank = 1.25m, Helm = 1.25m but on LTIR).

Almost every team can acquire Horvat it would just take some give and take on making the contract numbers work. At 50% retained you're only looking at finding a way to find in 2.75m.

It's easy to fit horvat in Colorado if they want to do it.

the only 'hockey' trades i like involving horvat that are even halfway plausible are horvat + something for pierre luc dubois and horvat for romanov and something like odelius or raty. dunno that winnipeg or the isle would be interested though

Pretty sure the writing is on the wall, they need good young defencemen as a priority.

If Rutherford was sincere then he builds from Demko out but he does have a bit of pressure to be good within Pettersson's current contract and maybe his next but it will be a short one for sure.

There was an article naming about 25 possible defencemen the Canucks could pursue of that list I thought maybe 20 were worthy. I eliminated the pigmies because the game is transitioning to needing guys with big wing spans for blocking passes and being able to box out, size and strength. A little nastiness won't hurt either.

I think they could get Livingston out of college but he isn't enough. A silly as it sounds a Tryamkin could color in 3 of 4 boxes. Size, skating and a nuclear deterrent. Also maybe not too expensive. As a 4, 5, 6 or 7 dman. He has become a defensive specialist able to play both sides. Water under the bridge, just another long term Benning knife twist.
