Winnik is going to net us something good. Getting him for free and then moving him for a 2nd and 3rd is going to be sweet.

So if this goes down, we will have two 1sts, a 2nd, and two 3rd's And that's not even including a Bozak, Kessel or Dion trades. We can really start grabbing some serious picks and prospects in the next week and few months. I'm loving this

See I disagree with this. In a deep draft a mid-second is like a late 1st in a regular draft. We just gave up a late 1st in a regular draft for that guy. It's not a total loss IMO, but we left something on the table i think.

That said, these Gaallagher/Marchand sandpaper guys can be very useful on a team.

I don't agree really, you run the risk on your investment if you wait. Leipsic is a guy in the top 5 of AHL scoring and has proven to make strides. The scouting staff like what they see in him and I can understand their interest. It's not always about just getting blind picks

The plan could always to get more picks via more trades. There's still trade chips in Jokinen, Winnik, Bozak, Robidas to pump out more picks in the 1-7 range

I think Winnik could easily get us a 2nd or even a 1st round pick. Producing just as much as Santa and he is a +13 on our team. I know people don't like to use the +/- stat, but when you are a +13 on a team as bad as ours, it should mean something.

He's not a rental though. He has much term and cost. The only way he gets traded prior to deadline is if we take a bad contract back.

Bozak yeah, but Holland? Outside of his struggles recently (which can be said about the rest of the team sans Rielly), he's been good

He's been ok. Amidst our struggles the only guys that have actually stood out to me are Rielly & Santo. IMO everyone else can go

a first is pushing it. A 2nd and 3rd is great value for someone we just signed as a free agent. He's had a great year so far and he is someone I wouldn't rush to move. Someone should pay up for him. Franson was a deal that had serious implications with his injury and getting a 1st and a prospect you don't haggle on those type of deals. A Winnik trade you can haggle a bit and wait for your price. A team like Pit who is said to be really interested should pay the max price that Nonis is looking for and that is a 2nd and 3rd or 2nd and a prospect.

I don't think Bozak will be traded. Not because there isn't interest but because of value. I think Toronto will want a 2nd+prospect for him and I am not sure if anyone is willing to pay.

Toronto will trade Winnik, and Winnik is playing very well! Maybe trade him for another late 1st like Franson (ie Pittsburg).

I also think the trade between LA and Toronto is going to happen. It better be Phaneuf for Richards + 1st + prospect.

I don't think Kessel will be traded before deadline. Toronto gave up a few firsts and a 2nd if I remember correctly. Hopefully Toronto can trade him at the draft.

If all of the above can happen I am a estatic Leaf fan. Our future is set, we will have a TON of 1st's, + a few new prospects in the mix. Something to look forward to as a Leaf fan.

edit: I also think Toronto will eat cap on Winnik contract so his cap hit will be the league minimum

According to John Hoven (founder and editor of MayorsManor.com), the Toronto Maple Leafs might be interested in acquiring center Jordan Weal from the Los Angeles Kings.

http://mayorsmanor.com/2015/02/5-myths-surrounding-mike-richards-to-toronto-trade-rumors/

Sources have told MayorsManor the Leafs are looking at center Jordan Weal. If true, this makes a ton of sense for a myriad of reasons. First off, he is a player that scouts have told us would already be playing for 15 other teams in the NHL right now.

Originally selected by the Kings in the third round (70th overall) at the 2010 NHL Draft, Weal is a former WHL scoring champion with the Regina Pats and led the Monarchs last season with 70 points (23 goals, 47 assists). More recently, with Maple Leafs scouts in attendance, his line led Manchester to victory last night, something he talked about with Tonge after the game.

Leafs are accelerating a Bozak trade. I think he's the next one to go.

Note, we now have 47 roster spots of 50 before the deadline. With 2 bodies going out, and 1 coming in.

Most will recall we traded Broll and Ashton for nothing to create more roster space because we needed it.

3 spots open today till Mar 2.

Whats the rush to trade him? Its not like he is playing amazing and his value is high. If Toronto doesn't get the value they want then don't trade and see what you can get at the draft.

I will be very surprised if Bozak is traded, unless Toronto gets exactly what they want.

Also, I will be upset if Toronto trades Winnik before deadline (unless they get Pitsburg first). He has great value and his cap hit will be the league minimum (again after we eat some of his salary). Roll the dice and wait till the deadline to see what we can get.

uh, 2 bodies came in. Both Jokinen and Leipsic are contracted.

So we are still at 48 contracts.

Why Winnik is worth a 2nd rounder....

He wouldnt be a bad guy to keep around, Pitts was sniffing him but traded their first for Perron. We can assume To. asked for their 2nd and there the cost sits. I dont see us needing to move him for a 3rd rounder after today's trade.

Phaneuff for O'Reilly in the summer?

Bozak for another first, Leafs sign Kadri and end the Burke era with 3 first rounders in the strongest draft since.....?

L.A wants Phaneuf but the leafs want no part of Richards coming back. There is interest in Phaneuf even before Franson was moved today. He will likely get moved before the deadline. Cap space has to be factored in to a Phaneuf deal as a gain by moving it for us.

Still the return will absolutely include a UFA contract that is expiring. In the same sense as taking on Jokinens contract to make the Franson deal work. The leafs want First round picks as much as they can get them, but good prospects are not going to be rejected.

I would like to see the leafs move every player that has interest and start from scratch keeping only the best of the youngest players. Kessel,Bozak,Jvr,Lupul, should all be moved if possible.

The 50 pro contracts could be a challenge getting around as we move forward purging all these players. I want them to really blow this up in a significant way and stock the prospects up here. The cap should never be spent more than 90% and preferably 85% while we build this too I hope.

I think it probably signals a trade for one of our centers but I'm not sure it'll be Bozak, Kadri's name is out there too and I don't think Jokinen, will be playing 4th line minutes, if they are trying to get something for him and it sure sounds like he doesn't want to be here, there are only a few weeks until the trade deadline.

Who said he doesn't want to be here?

he would be a horrible guy to keep around because he'd walk after the season and we'd get nothing. He HAS to go to the highest bidder.

Jokinen is on his way out.

Nonis made the comment that he would not be surprised if teams would call him on him as soon as the deal was made.

Let's wait until it actually happens. Who knows, perhaps Jokinen is traded for a contract.

So for now, it's 48 contracts.
