They have Sanderson and Brannstrom plus will fill in around them, they'll probably re-sign Zub for ~$3-4m, Debrincat's QO is a $2.6m raise from what he's making today. If they actually sign Weegar, boom, there's your defense for next year. I'm not seeing where the cap runs out on this plan, at least for now. Of course you shouldn't go out of your way to sign bad contracts, but I think coming out of a rebuild gun blazing by weaponizing the fact that you've haven't had enough good players in the last 5 years to get yourself into cap hell is a pretty good plan.

pretty wild if they add 2 top 3 forwards in the same offseason.

I want to thanks all of the tweeterer followers for sharing links here for those of us too old or not-hipsterer enough to get on that platform.

Weegar and Brannstrom both play too small to have 2 in a top-4 IMO.

Now if Ottawa trades for Chychrun instead...

not sold on either of their centers otherwise it's a nice group. I don't think they'll be contending any time soon even with these additions. Fringe playoff team.

This isn't the cap hell you're making it out to be.

1) You're making high, high end assumptions on the next contracts for all of Stutzle, Zub, Weegar, and Norris. I wouldn't be surprised if all 4 of those contracts come in under what you've got for them.

2) Even if I grant you all of those assumptions, you've still got $4.3m in cap space to fill 6 spots. A quick cap dump of Zaitsev fixes that immediately.

3) After that year, they get $4m back in dead cap from Murray, Ryan, and Del Zotto.

Their real issue is finding a goalie. But I don't think that means adding a few exciting pieces with the cap space they do have is a bad thing.

I mean Campbell had the same bad Toronto defense in front of him and he wasn't great. Its not like its going to get much better in Edmonton.

Legitimately speaking, the market for goalies right now is batshit crazy. If we were at all confident in Kochetkov, I'd love to dangle Raanta out there and get in on the action.
The sauna guys would be awfully upset though....

just a thought for the cheap extra on defense. Canes sign Hayden Fluery to a contract say 2 years between 850,000 to 1,000,000 per year

I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to that as a 6/7 guy, he knows the system and the staff. Probably depends on what they do with gardiner and if they see Chatfield or Keane as legitimate options in the 6 slot.

You really have to hope that 2 of Morrow, Heimosalmi, Seeley, Nikishin or now Forsmark and Grudinin morph into the Slavins/Pesces of the future.
Slavin will hopefully be the Slavin of the future for the next 7-10 years. Of that group I hope one of them pans out to top-4. Morrow looks the most promising.

Sellgren signed a 2 year contract in Sweden I believe

EDIT: but even LaJoie has to be an option
The NHL/IIHF transfer agreement has a blanket NHL clause I believe. I assume if he would now get signed to a NHL SPC, that SPC would supercede his SHL contract.

KHL is a different story, but that's a non-factor nowadays.

Evolving hockey contract projection tool is a good tool to use

The Sens just received Cam Talbot from the Wild (corrected my bad) for Filip Gustafson
