If he converts to wing I can see him becoming that type of player.

I posted this in the Wings forum but side by side he reminds me a lot of draft year Dylan Cozens.

I think Cozens was a bit grittier and had more offensive skill. Danielson is faster and has a better shot. This is a good comparable.

Barrett Hayton is another that had a pro projectile profile (thats a mouth-full) like them.

There's a split opinion on him in the scouting community. I have seen him ranked anywhere from top 10 to 26th.

Thats what I was kinda getting at. The public lists might be split on him but its starting to sound like the legit NHL guys really like him. Hes going to start to creep up theselists as people catch on how liked he is by NHL front offices78

Because points. The analytical people don't like him because he didn't put numbers.
78 points, 33 goals in 68 games is definitely solid production though, thats part of what I dont understand. Especially when he was the go to guy on his team as a draft eligible.

Maybe the criticism relates to him being one of the oldest players in the draft. Also that he only progressed from 1.08 pts/gm in D-1 to 1.15 pts/gm in his draft year.

A defense of that criticism could be that the Wheat Kings took a step backwards this year.

I'm just starting to watch/learn more of Danielson so I'd be curious for some feedback here:

There's seems like a bit of that Jake Virtanen rush player element to his offensive game. He's bigger & faster than everyone, so when he creates separation he can get a shot away or create a passing lane, but he doesn't bull his way to the net like a PWF, & he's often content to just stick to the perimeter.

His vision is actually decent when he has his head up, he can find the options & make good passes in his purview, but his awareness overall leaves some to be desired. He has a really strong shot obviously, not the greatest hands, and again not the most creative player, and he kinda just has 1 speed when he's got the puck. I question how much offense he'll be able to generate.

Rarely are these players NHL level defensively (there's always details to learn) but he's definitely committed to his own zone. Should be decent on draws, will PK. Not sure he'll be a Selke center but he should be a good defensive player.

Not very physical or gritty, and he's not as strong yet as you'd like for a guy that size (it'll come I'm sure).

Idk... you love his skating & he'll be able to score some goals, but I do question how the offense will come. Seems like a pretty north/south meat & potatoes C in the NHL.

Again just my impressions. Love to hear some thoughts on these points.

Danielson is faster and has a better shot.
Unless the kid is Brett Hull or Patrik Laine, I don't know about that. Dylan Cozens has a lethal shot, it's the best part of his game. If Danielson is a faster Cozens with a better shot, he's Steven Stamkos and should be going 2nd overall.

I have not once come away with the idea that Cozens has a game breaking shot. He's a good goal scorer, but his shot isn't anything that special. Cozens is fast, but Danielson's top speed is faster.

I'm here to address the Jake Virtanen part. I actually really liked Virtanen as a prospect. He was going to be a monster IMO, until that shoulder injury and he lost his shot.

Virtanen struggled to score against the same competition in his D+1 year. He went from a legit sniper, to barely being able to hit the net.

I was looking at the draft spot over / under on bet365 and I think I may have found a lock here.

They have Danielson at the 9.5 spot.

He is 1.71 for the over and 2.00 for the under.

I can’t see a way that he gets picked in the top 9 in this years draft for the under. Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, Smith Leonard I think are all 100% locks to go in the top 9. That just leaves 3 more players to be selected before Danielson.

I feel like Danielson is a very safe bet and I can see him as a good NHL player but I see a bunch of players with much better upside than him in the draft.

Am I wrong here? Just checking the general consensus before I drop money on it.

Pronman seems to think he is the next Elias Lindholm

does this guy have 70 pt + upside ??
I see him as a good 2nd line center in the making, production will come down to his usage, but 55-65 pts/season seems fair. I think Dvorsky has a bit more upside as far as centers are concerned.

Also, Lindholm isnt a real top line center, he got 70 pts as the Flames top center, but it just shows how weak their center line is.

Not a bad bet but my no means a freebie. Personally, I would draft Danielson in the top9. Also, Michkov is the ultimate wild card this year.

My advice would be to wait for McKenzie's final ranking which is usually pretty telling.

Love this player and I would be careful with betting against him. I have him 6th on my board and expect him go higher than f.e. Benson. His offense isn't maybe super high-end, just very decent, but except of that he's a full package.

My projection for him is the most probably 2C but he's closer to be a potential 1C than 3C in my eyes.

Hes a much smarter player than Cozens, not very similar IMO. Cozens was just an overall physical force.

Dawson Mercer was “Boring“ in his draft year too.
Actually Mercer and Danielson have a lot in common I find. Liked them both.
