I think he's working with a higher offensive ceiling than Larks at this stage but they really are very close in style. Danielson's speed is way faster than I thought, he was everywhere last night against men.

I mean maybe. Larkins offence was questioned a bit at draft time but hes a ~30 goal, 80 point forward at this point, without a lot of help with him. I dont really see Danielson as having a 90 point ceiling

He is going to be a great pro. He does everything at a high skill level with pace.

BUT PLEASE SEND HIM BACK TO BRANDON!
He will definitely be back in th WHL. Right now hes looking like he'll be pencilled into Canadas top 6 and likely traded to a contender at some point this season, possibly when he comes back from the WJC

He will surely be playing in Brandon. The Wings have a logjam at forward right now and Yzerman is too stingy with his assets to let a veteran walk. Barring some unforeseen trade, Nate the Great will be tearing it up for Brandon next season.
Pretty sure if they felt it was best for his development, they'd play him in the NHL.

Problem is the stupid CHL agreement. Because realistically he's too good for the WHL and probably doesn't benefit much from going back, but not quite good enough to be in the NHL at the minutes and assignments that would make it beneficial.

Best spot for him is Top 6 in the AHL, but because of that stupid agreement, it can't happen.

He’s not too good for the WHL. I had him inside my top ten and am a huge fan of this player. I’ve been pumping his tires for a long time. He could definitely still benefit from another year on a more competitive WHL (assuming Brandon makes strides this year) and with Team Canada at the WJC. Leading a team with higher expectations, playing on the big international stage, and going on playoff run would all be very good for him developmentally.

The key for him is how quick, assertive, and creative he is when attacking in the offensive zone once the immediate rush/transition is over. That will separate him from a 55-65 pt player to 70 pt+

There's a lot of commentary these days on this board that is just empty words providing no insight whatsoever.

This prospect, as example, is your classic two way C where the offensive upside just depends on your perspective. Now, you could support a higher ceiling, lower floor type at #9 in the draft but that is your drafting philosophy.

the lottery should increase a teams odds of winning the more years that team has a bad record , but it doesnt so even though detroit had been bad for years we never got into top 3 . thusly yzerman never got a chance to draft a dream center . so he adjusted the yzerplan to the yzerfence and started drafting and signing two way centers capable of neutralizing opponants top centers , centers with wheels and big motors that patrol 200' = 200' OF HELL
FOR NON WING FANS ''200' OF HELL'' WAS IN REFERENCE TO JEFF BLASHILLS OLD TERM ''60 MINUTES OF HELL'' , BUT BLASHES VERSION OF HELL WAS INFLICTED UPON REDWING FANS ;-)

"Too good" may have been the wrong choice of words.

Put it this way. He plays a 200 ft. game and is big and strong enough to play with men. He'd be much better off playing with men and having to improve on that game at the semi-pro level than he is playing in Junior.

The AHL would be better for his development, but isn't available to him.

Exactly. Tampa's great drafting is all about Al Murray, not Yzerman
I understand Tampa fans want to pretend that’s true, but it’s simply not.

Yzerman has always drafted a “type” of forward for example, and Detroit now drafts those types of players and Tampa doesn’t. The types of players like Savage, Kasper, Mazur, Hanas, Lombardi, all have the same common theme as Point, Cirelli, Joseph, etc.

They’re players who already play/played in traffic extremely well, and have the lateral movement needed to succeed creating space in the NHL. Danielson is no exception.

Doesn’t mean they’ll all develop into great players, but the core attributes of Yzerman’s draft picks hasn’t changed. Tampa’s has.
I remember reading so many people here saying this was a bad pick at #9.
Fans basically go off of a variation of one list from Central Scouting, these media draft gurus almost all go off of. They don’t vary often. A service 75% of teams don’t even look at anymore. Scouting is so different today than it was when CS ran most draft evaluations, etc. They’re basically for the media and fans now, when originally they were for the teams.

There’s 7-8 teams now, who not only do everything in-house, they farm out to independent contractors and evaluators for 2nd and 3rd opinions now too. They also have armies of contracted scouts. Take a kid like Savage or Mazur… Detroit could tell you what their diet was at 13. That’s how in-depth certain teams have become. Detroit also has a couple of advantages over most teams. There’s people within, or very close to the club, who are also very involved with the AAA system in Detroit. Which is still where minor hockey evolves around.. At least at high levels. Whether it’s with Little Caesars or one of the other clubs. So they’re basically following those kids daily from 10-11 years old. The teams where kids from all over the country will come play, in many cases, minus only a few areas..

They also have an actual army of scouts not on the payroll. Not only in NA, but also in Sweden now. It’s all based off of the old Devellano models that are now used in Detroit, Dallas, Tampa, Edmonton, Anaheim, Carolina and with the NYR. These teams have armies of former AAA coaches mostly. They are constantly feeding data to regional guys, who then are part of the Scouting departments of these teams. That’s why it’s always these teams who fans wonder why they took a player maybe where they did. It’s also why Yzerman rolled his eyes (with a puzzled look) when interviewed right after drafting Seider… when they asked him if he was drafted too high. The other teams know the depths some of these teams take now. Detroit is the only one who’s taken this system to Europe. They’re literally in 100 rinks in just Sweden by doing this. Probably more. Same in Canada and the States. In Ontario alone, most teams will have 3-5 guys. Detroit and these other teams still have those 3 guys, but they have these contracted scouts in numerous other buildings around the province too. They basically pay them for reports on associations, players within, etc.

It’s pretty complex.

So when they draft Danielson at 9, they valued him at 9, and many other teams likely did too. It was pretty known they liked him a lot. The name I kept getting from people was Detroit seen him as a Couturier, and you can see that in him.

At the end of the day though, you still have to develop these players. Detroit now has plenty of kids they’ve drafted. When Yzerman got there, they basically didn’t have very many young kids to develop. Really only a few. Now they have more than enough. Whether they all become what some say, we shall see, but it looks like they hit pretty good in the 1st round of the 23’ draft.

no, no it wouldn't. He's way better off back in the WHL than he would be in the AHL and that agreement is a blessing in disguise for chlers. The AHL isn't really a development league, it's a adjustment league. Going back to play with your peers and focusing on actually improving your skillset in the CHL vs just trying to stay in the lineup in the AHL. Other than the covid years the AHL has a long list of teenagers who struggled and never amounted to much vs the very few who it actually benefitted. The only draw back of the agreement is some teams stupidly keep players up to just play them under 10 minutes a game and scratch them vs simply sending them back. But that's on the teams being dumb

Yeah I'm a wings fan and I'veseen wayyyy to many people saying he cant learn anything else in the WHL.

He had a really good season last year but one year and then AHL because of his age is perfect for a guy of his caliber. Play world juniors, play some meaningful games and go home from your first NHL training camp with specific things to focus on improving.

As he is already a fantastic two-way and defensive player, going back to the W will give him and great opportunity to focus on developing his offensive game.

Good that you know more about our team than we do. Especially calling the late rounders like Cirelli or Point his picks lol

Who says we have not drafted more players like that? I guess Duke, Gauthier or Groshev never happened

He could benefit greatly from building his offensive toolkit and growing his confidence to get the puck to higher danger areas. All things he could probably do better in the WHL than the AHL IMO.

And having the carry that team will be a better learning experience for him than being just another great player on a loaded team. I'd argue that being in too gud of a situation harmed Cossa's development.

Is everyone who follows Tampa an expert on Tampa?

I certainly wouldn't act like some of my fellow Red Wings fans have all the answers because they follow the team. Plenty of them have shitty views about my team I wouldn't agree with.

Based on posting history the Petes poster is a lot more knowledgeable about the league than most people around here. That's not to say you weren't correct with Tampa still drafting those types of players.

He’s not beyond major juniors. He should go back and work on his play driving of offence for the Wheat Kings. He will be used in any and all situations there, PP, PK, 5v5 Ozone and Dzone faceoff starts, etc. Give him the last year to dominate the WHL and World Juniors.
