Since we're making predictions, I can confidently say the midget wingers the Sabres have drafted over the past 5 years will not be able to get past the Wings defense. Mo Seider can shut down McDavid no issue, I can't see Benson or Savoie or Peterka or Kulich being an issue.

Neither the team nor the player ever said he would even try playing center. He's a RW and only a RW.

What's a #1 center? So many different kinds. He might not end up scoring as much as Thompson, but he almost definitely will be better at preventing goals from being scored. Different GMs want different things in their #1Cs.

Still trying to see the hype over Benson from his preseason performance. Puckhound no doubt and he'll be a good player but he looks slow and small and weak. We aren't building a team like that. It's hard to when you don't have two 1st overall picks on defense

I don’t know about that. Depends on a lot of factors like who his wingers are. I remember when Steve Ruchin and Brendan Morrison were 1st line centers on two of the best lines in hockey. Danielson has more potential than both of those guys.

I think this has been Stevie's vision all along. Sure, he would love to have the franchise center, but Scottie converted him from that franchise C, and turned him into an elite 2-way C. That's when he started winning Cups.

Not really sure if this is a directly player comparison or a stylistic comparison... I mean, Yzerman was a franchise center regardless of whether he was offense only Yzerman or two-way Yzerman.

It'd be nice if Danielson shocked us all and became a 90 point elite defensive center, but that's probably not happening and is crazy to suggest right now.

If it's simply a style comparison, yes, Yzerman is pretty clearly building a team around big shutdown defensemen and two way forwards that are an absolute pain in the ass to play against. If this team is successful at all, it'll be a Vegas/St. Louis style championship team rather than a Chicago/Pittsburgh type.
