Fails. Is it wishful thinking that he flourishes or fails ?
There's wishful thinking on both sides to be honest.

His contract is up in May...doesn't hurt to try and get him in early. Not like he's suiting up for Buffalo and if the Habs are trading any of their vet forwards, he'll get ice time.Yes, Montreal want to take him out of the environment he's thriving in to help their tank.

He isn't averaging less than 10 minutes per game, he occasionally plays less than 10.Thriving in? You mean thriving in being stapled to the end of the bench and averaging less than 10 minutes per game?
15 of his 34 games have been under 10 mins. He has 3 pts in those games. He has 17 pts in the 19 games he's played with over 10 mins.He isn't averaging less than 10 minutes per game, he occasionally plays less than 10.
I respect the meme-game, at least.
But, yes. Most ridiculously overrated prospect outside of the NHL because he's a Montreal draft pick, resulting in a bright spotlight and media attention, and there is a subconscious desperation to soothe the ache of passing over the superior Michkov.
Edit: Which, as I've stated, doesn't mean he's going to be a bust or anything. He'll prove a perfectly fine, one dimensional offensive winger who, in the modern NHL, will be a low-end first line player. That's fine value to acquire at fifth
Well that checks out, doesn't it? Or is this "he doesn't play x amount of minutes therefore he is getting ruined" case you guys are trying to make like it was with Michkov?15 of his 34 games have been under 10 mins. The point is he is not playing very much. I've watched 6 or 7 games and in a couple of those games he got only 1 or 2 shifts per period. Rotenberg is using his lack of playing time as an example to others that if you don't sign an extension with them he will punish you. He did it with Michkov last season only that time he banished him to a bottom feeding team (Sochi).
Any one who has watched him play (with the little ice time he gets) will know that his play should dictate more ice time than he gets.
It's 100% politics. Grityuk and Nikishin are some of the highest paid players of the team, Demidov is not. And, like Demidov, Gristyuk and Nikishin are refusing to sign extensions too. Yet they’re getting plenty of playing time.

Guaranteed that if Demidov signed an extension tomorrow (and become the highest paid player on the team), he would be bumped to the 1st line, with top PP and 20min TOI. It's also a negotiation tactic, if you sign you will play more.
Russian clubs have always been like that, they do not like developing young players for NHL clubs. Michkov was a bit different as he was one of the highest paid player too, as he signed a very lucrative extension at a very young age. That's also why he was loaned out and not burried on the 4th line like Demidov.
Michkov contract was with significant increase year over year and he was the most highly touted Russian prospect of the past decade so they locked him very early. (Not typical of other u18 players) highest paid youngster in all of russia. What planet are you on? Michkov was certainly NOT one of the highest paid players. His entire contract was for around 1 million total. And Gritsyuk is making probably league minimum. He took a voluntary pay cut so they could sign Kuznetzov.
And why are you lumping other KHL teams in with SKA? Teams are different, coaches are different, sponsors are different.
Enough of the broad- brush stereotyping already.
I agree every russian clubs are different. The fact Michkov was not even playing for SKA last year is a good indicator of how disfunctional they are internally or how little that club value their young upcoming talent. And why are you lumping other KHL teams in with SKA?
