Nah, I think you try and pry someone like Cozens, Quinn, or Peterka away for less than they're worth. I feel like they'd rebound if put into a better environment. Pretty much every name Buffalo has traded away has gone on to have success with other teams.
In theory yea, but again those guys are part of the no-effort problem. I'd be cool so long Grier and co can vet who's got that no-quit attitude. I like Peterka in that sense.

Eichel, O'Reilly, Reinhart, Montour, etc. were also "part of the problem", except now they're Stanley Cup winners.

I truly believe that one guy can easily be rehabilitated when you give him a chance in a positive environment.

For sure the right players can be rehabbed, but not all, that's why I said if the team can vet who has the ingredients they want i'd be cool with it. The Sharks overplayed their hand with the hubris that they could fix anyone during the last regime.

Woo, Chicago came back from 0-2 to beat the Caps.

Yes I know it's too early to scoreboard watch but I'm bored lol.
Was surprised to see them comeback. Ooh boy are the Rangers self-destructing. Can't beleive Nashville shut the Rangers out.

Buffalo is also awful.

Right now sitting in 4th slot.

Yeah, obviously you do your homework. But I don't believe one player can tank a whole locker room and I also don't believe most NHL players have a meaningful effect on the team culture unless they're the star guys.

I would add that you also take on the rehab projects that fit a need or are a commodity (like big centers, defensemen, etc.)...so I'd be much more open to taking on Cozens rather than a small skill winger, for example

I don't see Quinn or Peterka as "small skill wingers", but I agree with your point. Don't know if Cozens is a center though.

My ideal draft result. Hawks are out of the McKenna lotto (unless they're 32nd overall and no one moves up), and Sharks get Schaefer. Wouldn't mind seeing Nash get a legit #1 C (even though they are in our conference), and ANA/MTL loses out on the big 4. Misa going East works for me too.

It's a good picture for the Sharks, but it seems to me that other teams will not be able to choose Schaefer

Sharks at december 20th 34 games (32 last year). 11 wins (9 last year), 18 losses (20 last year), 9 ot losses (3 last year), 27 points (21 last year).

On pace for 66 points (last year 53). If we keep the same pace, and the point totals are roughly the same for the rest of the league, we are then pacing for 4th last.

So let’s say the sharks end up with the 3rd or 4th pick and Schaefer is most certainly picked before then. Is it worth it (good value and reasonably realistic) to package that pick to get a young top Dman from another team? Any potential targets?

Sure, if Dallas calls and says "we'll give you Heiskanen for #4 and Cagnoni," but that's not going to happen.

Realistically, there are no trades worth making.

If we had the 5th overall pick or worse then I would say you could consider this. But pick 3 or 4 in this draft class you are happy with whatever is left. Of course you would prefer Schafer but “the big 4” all have arguments to be the #1 overall pick this year so you would gladly take whoever is left at #3 or #4 and walk away very happy in my opinion.

It’s the main reason I am hoping we end up either last or second last in the standing so we can guarantee a top 4 pick this draft, and wouldn’t have to rely on chance/luck to land one of the top four. I truly believe the drop off in prospects after pick #4 is a little jarring.

Buffalo is currently out-tanking everyone. They are win-less in their last 11 games. Ironically, Buffalo's last win was against the Sharks, so good job there. But at this rate, they'll end up with the best odds of landing 1OA pick and Schaefer.

We need to let Georgiev play more, particularly against bottom dwellers. Schaefer in teal would be huge for us.
