Its still elite competition - all these kids are basically CHL draft picks
The Territory provincial teams in Group C are significantly weaker than the top provincial teams in Groups A & B. Very few are going to play CHL or Jr A hockey if any at all.

Pretty much echoing what Bondra and Kyle have said - no they aren’t - most of the NWT and Nunavut kids aren’t going to sniff the Junior B, let alone the CHL. Very few of the kids in his division are going to play major junior, 95% of the ones that are, are from Newfoundland.

That’s why I can’t wait to see what he does against legitimate competition, he looked great against the Newfoundland so that‘s a start.

McKenna is literally the only CHL drafted player in group C out of th ~75 eligible players. And he's the best player in the tournament, by far.

~10 will be drafted out of the NFLD/PEI teams this year.

Newfoundland kids haven‘t had an opportunity to be drafted - so not necessarily fair to them.

Also, I wouldn’t say by far - Roobroeck is right there, but these two kids are in a tier of their own In the tournament for sure, and I’d probably give the edge to McKenna.

It is far from elite. Most of the kids on YK, NWT, Nunavut, PEI and NL won't play major junior or, if they do, will play minimal roles. There's little-to-no pro potential in Group C outside of McKenna. I would go even further and say that the majority of players in Group C won't even be major junior drafted. Jack Campbell of PEI led the 2018-19 tournament in scoring with 17 points playing against these teams and he was a fringe QMJHL player at best.

Not taking anything away from McKenna; just the reality.
Wdym the Edmonton's goalie is a fringe QMJHL (dont know how to do the rolling eyes emoji on this)

can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not - but in case you’re joking, he means this Jack Campbell.

I know, that's why I said the ~75 eligible from thew WHL based territories and that ~10 from NFLD and PEI will be this year.

Doesn’t he have like 8 points in 11 WHL games half being as a 14 year old? He’s obviously legit but I can’t see him putting up 8 points a game if he plays against Ontario Alberta and BC

Two goals and an assist in a 13-3 loss to New Brunswick. Up to 25 points in 5 games. Three away from setting the record.

I know you are probably looking at the hockeycanada site, for some reason that site has removed a point from 2 different games from mckenna, but the official gwg site he has 27 points marked for him🤷‍♂️

canada winter games : 9, 8, 5, 2, 3 = 27
hockey canada : 9, 7, 4, 2, 3 = 25

i have read that 22 points in first 3 games from several different sites

sure the rest might have it wrong
and hockeycanada might have it right
🤷‍♂️

Also, the guys who are calling these hockey games are mentioning his point totals in each of his game, though i didnt watch much of their last game and that game did not have commentary for some reason

Is he considered a lock for Canada at the Gretzky-Hlinka Cup next summer?
As in summer 2024? Yeah he's a lock, he is easily the top 07 born player in western Canada and has a case to be the best in all of Canada along with Misa and Rooebrock.

If you mean this upcoming summer, when the team will be for 06 born players , that's a different story as they rarely take underaged players minus the guys who get exceptional status. I could see them taking Misa and leaving him off as I don't think they've ever taken 2 underagers before, but I could be wrong

Some people find it incredibly difficult to understand birthdays man…
The age difference is nothing major between them, same age, same league, thats a fact!

Also fact, McKenna is scoring more goals and points what Bedard did, in the same league.

Also, he is already taller now at 15 what Bedard is now at 17, though not that it matters to me but, just wanted to point that out.

I have read two experts speculate that
McKenna might be the next McDavid, so
he would be above Bedard level.

Also, braking the CWG point and goal record, is not a small feat, you can say all what you want about competition level,
but fact is, that he did it.

Scored 1 goal, 2 assists in his final game.
