Stupid move. Long term and too much cap on a 4th line player that no ability to play up in the lineup. Can't skate and doesn't play physical. 4th line should be a rotation of youngish, cheap energy players all trying to make a mark and grab an NHL job.

He can skate fairly well for a 4th line player.

I like Kampf, but he's a 4C, and we're a very cap constrained team, $2.4 mil AAV is just too much. We previously had him at $1.5 mil, IMO we should have negotiated for ~$1.8 mil, but anything beyond that, let him walk. Holmberg would have been a solid replacement, and is only $800K - we need $1.6 mil in extra cap space more than we need a better 4C.

The Leafs signed Kampf for $1-million coming off a one-goal season with Chicago.

He's played pretty well with Toronto over the past two years and has increased his value. I don't know, but I think he might have got more money on the open market.

At any rate, David Kampf is a very useful player and I'm glad they locked him up for four years at reasonable cap hit.

Sounds like he is willing to do so on this next deal to ensure the team is in a position to win.

The problem I have is that we rip the core 4 for what they make, but I would much rather overpay ine of those guys than waste and extra $1.7M at the bottom of the roster when it really isn't needed. Kampf is pretty replacable.
I just saw what was reported about AM potentially controlling his max to help win. If that is true....incredible and changes my opinion of him bring mercenary. Your paragraph 2 makes no sense, if you waste the money shame on Brad T, but we need the chance to spend that 1.7m wisely.

Maybe a lil richer than ideal, but if he’s running at 3C with some wingers that drive the offense, should be fine. Had some rhythm Willy, and showed that he might have more offence in him at times.
At the very least a hardworking player with strong FO and defensive chops.

We can't afford to do that with a 4th line C. Would mucb rather go with Holmberg and then add a few more depth C pieces in FA.

Kampf doesn't move the needle to make our bottom 6 better than others, especially once he lost Engvall.
That is a reasonable reaction. Im not sure Holmberg is ready but maybe he starts on the wing. C depth isn’t bad. It’s also possible Kampf is centering a shut down 3rd line.

4th line is pretty much set with Holmberg-Kampf and Lafferty.
Would even say the top 6 are set with Calle-AM-Willie, and Knies-JT-MM.
Wonder who will fill the 3rd line.

I’m a fan of David Kampf but this AAV seems a bit rich and I’m not really big on term for 4th liners. End of the day it’s an interchangeable player.

Kampf played the 6 most minutes of. the leafs forwards last year. And Dubus left this roster a bit of a mess and not a lot of money to spend. I think any extra money is gonna go all into the defence.

They should have focussed on finding the next Kampf for 1 m i.e Holmberg rather than giving this one 2.4. 2.4 is way too much. I’d rather that money go towards a 3rd liner that can score 20-25. ZAR-Holmberg-Lafferty is a fine 4th line. This is such a dumb move.

findI a player you can get for 2.4 that can score 20 to 25 goals. You guys all seem to just wanna continue with Dubasis vision that failed gloriously.

Too many holes in the lineup to fill.
It is really come down to which is the lesser poison.

Read what I said carefully. I said put that 2.4 m towards a 3rd liner. So if we could find a 20 goal guy for 3.5-4 m, I’d rather that 2.4 go towards that 3.5-4 m dollar contract.
