Just because Kerfoots deal is bad doesn’t make paying Kampf 2.4 million any less of an overpayment.
The way that the expensive 4 are paid we have to squeeze every bit of value out of the lower tier players……..not just get ok fair value. That hasn’t cut it the last 7 years and it won’t cut it going forward
I don't see this being an over payment. He would of got at least 3 mil on the market. 900 000 Dollar raise is not substatial at all.

900K folks, that is what the raise was. People are freaking out over 900k. If the cap went up 3 million there wouldn't be a peep out of anyone.

If the cap goes up in the next 3 years to what some are reporting to almost 100 mil then are we really worried about the 900k raise Kampf got?
Thank you.

Weird thread though. Seems like a decade ago that two worse players in Andreas Johnsson and Kk were signed for 3.5x4 and yet there is way more complaining about this move then you saw back when those two were signed. f*** this thread seems to more upset then when Marner signed even. Folks Pretty worked up over a very dependable player in Kampf.
Kap and AJ actually came off 20 goals season

my initial reaction was sour, but I'm getting more comfortable with it. Especially since Kampf plays more minutes than your usual fourth liner.

I don't LOVE IT, but it's certainly fine, especially once you get past this season and the cap should jump a few million each year.

Tried to tell you guys. Dubas never did this shit. He knew these bottom end players were replaceable. You thought we would go and get actual legit players when my ENTIRE Leaf fandom this is what we did, overpaid replaceable depth.

Can't wait to sign Miles Wood to a 4M deal and have the most overpaid and unproductive bottom 6 in the east. Absolute CLOWNS Leaf management. CLOWNS

f*cking insane, Shanny can't hide anymore like he's been doing for a decade
Yep, you're right. He's the one really calling the shots & hiding in the shadows to protect his cushy job....we wont go anywhere while he's here

Seems pretty silly for anyone to be upset about this.

Yeah Dubas would never target a player like Kampf, so true

He absolutely would at something reasonable like 1-1.5 million. He would have let him walk and found another guy who did the same thing and signed him for cheap. This was a strength of his. He would find diamonds in the rough, get value out of them and when they got more expensive move on and do it again.

Brad is going to overpay a bunch of scrubs.

This is a good signing. He will be a key cog.in the bottom 6 when we can conpete in a couple of years after undoing the absolute f***ery that Kyle initated.

It'll take a while, but we have at least we've started the process.

Ideally, you would have liked it to be a 2M cap hit but 400k over that is hardly an issue.

There's a bigger problem here though.

I think it's slowly becoming apparent Shanahan's orders for Treliving are clear. Just bring back as much of last season's team as possible with changes around the edges.

I wouldn't be surprised if he circles back on Holl and Kerfoot.

The same reaction happened when we got jarn last off season and it turned in to a pretty good deal by the end of the first year

They’re both filler pieces, their greatest value to the franchise would be if someone with cap issues got desperate at the deadline and gave us 1st+ for the two of them that we could spend on an actual impact player.

So bye then. Was there a gun to our heads?

Until the playoffs when he was useless and his limitations were readily apparent.

Stupid move. Long term and too much cap on a 4th line player that no ability to play up in the lineup. Can't skate and doesn't play physical. 4th line should be a rotation of youngish, cheap energy players all trying to make a mark and grab an NHL job.

Yeah, he brought Kerfoot in on a steal of a deal.

A good bottom six centre is harder to find than folks suggest. The team spent how many games pretending Freddy Gauthier was an NHLer? Or spending 2nds at the deadline to try and plug in?

I suspect I'm going to be underwhelmed by Treliving's offseason, but this was fine as far as early moves go

NASHVILLE – Brad Treliving’s first roster move with the Maple Leafs as general manager: Signing David Kämpf to a four-year deal with an annual cap hit of $2.4 million.

The Leafs locked up the 28-year-old three days before he would have become an unrestricted free agent. They did so by offering Kämpf the security of a four-year deal in exchange for a slightly lower cap hit. Kämpf and his agent J.P. Barry were eyeballing a cap hit of $3-$3.5 million on the open market.

Among the comparables, in terms of cap hit, they saw for Kämpf were Brandon Tanev ($3.5 million), Barclay Goodrow ($3.6 million), and Colton Sissons ($2.8 million).

The deal is similar to the one the Leafs signed with Calle Järnkrok last summer (four years, $2.1 million cap hit), but with a slightly higher cap hit to account for the fact that Kämpf is younger and a centre who was bound to draw interest on a free agent market short on that position. That and a rising cap.

Kämpf has grown fond of Toronto and the Leafs over his two seasons and preferred to stay.

His last deal, for two years, came with a cap hit of $1.5 million.

Barry had been talking to Leafs assistant GM Brandon Pridham about a Kämpf extension since the beginning of last season. In short, this has been a long process. Most of those negotiations, however, came when the Leafs had Kyle Dubas as their GM.

Treliving replaced Dubas on May 31. He spoke to Barry about Kämpf and exactly four weeks later, the Leafs, with Pridham still overseeing the negotiations, finally arrived at an amount that convinced Kämpf to forgo the open market and stay.

In other words, the Treliving-led Leafs budged to get Kämpf to stay.

It’s an interesting bet, a low-risk bet, but a bet all the same.

Folks, Boston is bringing back Looch and Ottawa is bringing in Wilson, but it's ok, we've got Kampfer.

And yes, I know Looch kind of sucks, but I like have dicks on the 4th line.
