Nope. It's an overpay. On a 4th liner. And their next move is to resign Kerfoot.

Whooshed right on overhead, did it? Read the next part carefully.

It's for the people who couldn't see that Shanny makes all the calls - no matter who the GM is. But it is funny to see the pendulum swing the other way when suddenly overpayments framed as good deals based solely on the name of the GM.
Ugh. You're right though.

God that feels familiar...like a thoroughly soiled pair of underwear.

Terrible

I’m not against paying a 4th liner 2+ million. Kampf is not that guy though

He should be a prime Garnett Hathaway. A Center, PK, tough, decent faceoffs and can get 20-25 points year in year out

Better than Foligno at 4mil, lol.
Yeah but Chicago needs to ice a roster and reach the cap floor. They're 5 years away at least from being competitive, and they're doing exactly what they should be doing right now.

They should load up on short term vet contracts tbh so that they don't have to rush the non-Bedard youth.

He is making 25% more than he should.

He is for sure overpaid.

It's not terrible, but Treliving has overpaid A LOT of UFAs recently, it is not a good start.
25% for 4 years?!!!

That means he's 100% over paid!

If only he'd have taken the kind of discount Matthews is known for!

Mark the occasion. Brad Treliving's first move as GM of the leafs. Good trivia question lol.

Kampf at 2.5 is a little steep though but as others mentioned, cap is going to go up so it won't be as bad. Especially if he continues to play the way he has for us.

$2.4 seems to be a fair rate for a proven 4th line centre that is very strong defensively though his prime years

Term is more my concern.. but it doesn’t make it a bad deal, as it appears there is isn’t with a NTC or anything.

Makes it quite move-able.

Not really worth a big freak out

Not sure I see any comparables that tell me otherwise

Hathaway is not a center at all?

And Hathaway will likely be a target for the Leafs anyway.

Would have preferred someone else for cheaper with more grit. Having said that, it's hard for us fans to measure what he brings on the defensive side of the puck.

It's possible whatever is available on the UFA market isn't much better or not getting better value. I like it solid 4th line center with the option as trade bait at the deadline.

Bringing up something irrelevant to the conversation is a good way to get your point across.

Ugh, I know.....I feel the same way. I swear if they sign Kerfoot.......lol
Kerfoot is a perfect player for Chicago: a placeholder. Toronto can't afford to waste precious cap dollars on placeholders right now...which is exactly what they've done many times before so it's a legit concern.

Holl is just a f***ing dumpster fire and there is no justification for bringing him back at any price.

Leafs are going to continue to build a strong regular season roster. This will be Shannys legacy I suppose, shared by the core.

Imagine getting this toxic over 400k. This place is nuts. Extreme reactions.
We can't afford to do that with a 4th line C. Would mucb rather go with Holmberg and then add a few more depth C pieces in FA.

Kampf doesn't move the needle to make our bottom 6 better than others, especially once he lost Engvall.

That's not a good thing.

Up from 4C where he belongs, to... a 3C who can't score?
A 3C who never started any offensive faceoff and didn't play in a y kind of offensive situation to really have a offensive contribution

When orielly came and keefe started using him in kampf spot outside of top 6, did he really producing more than Kampf at 5v5? Not really...

I like what Kampf brings on the ice, but not for 2,4 AAV.
In a team that continues to be cap crunched, with a lot of UFA´s to resign/roster changes AND with AM34+Willy to resign, every penny counts. Every. Single. Penny.

The Tree tenure starts on the wrong foot, cap wise.

This is a brutal signing. He's a useful talent worth 1.25 maybe 1.5 max. At this price I would have gone Holmberg at 4c.
