Isn’t he a third line centre anyway? He was in his first year here and most of last season as well. He averaged over 15 minutes/game last season and season before. Definitely third line minutes.
Spezza was 4C two years ago and last year Holmberg played 37 games with a lot at 4C.
Kampf seems to be able to handle 3C duties fine enough.

I was really hoping we can get both Kampf and Acciari at a total of 3M.

With 2.5 already alotted to Kampf looks like Acciari is going to help some other team.

If Tavares is moving to wing technically we need 2 more centers; I assume they expect Kampf to play 3C and not 4C with that AAV. TBD

We can always trade him to Pittsburgh at a later date. It’s not a deal but it’s fine.

he is about 500K overpaid. My guess is that in 2 yrs he is probably traded when both Knies and Marner are up for new contracts; given that management has already signaled that they are sticking with the so called core 4.

I wanted Kampf back so am not complaining. He can play hard minutes; PKs and isn't afraid of going into corners and playing body; and he is defensively sound.

My guess is he plays 3C. We still need 2 more centers for 4C and for 2C with Tavares on the wing. I wonder if they will ask Willy to finally start playing center

I don't mind this signing, he's still under 30 nit's only 2.5 million it's not like it's going to be a hard contract to move if it ever needs to be moved

he's a good plater on a good contract that won't be hard to move if it comes to that

They should have focussed on finding the next Kampf for 1 m i.e Holmberg rather than giving this one 2.4. 2.4 is way too much. I’d rather that money go towards a 3rd liner that can score 20-25. ZAR-Holmberg-Lafferty is a fine 4th line. This is such a dumb move.
You think 2.4 million will get a 3rd liner who can score 20-25 goals? In what universe?

How are any of you defending this?

Many of you have spent years saying Dubas was the worst GM in the league for overpaying stars and now we just overpaid a 4th line center and gave him an NTC.

I get every penny counts, but he's about what, $400K overpaid? I guess the bigger question mark is if Kampf is back, does it mean Acciari and O'Reilly are both gone. You could make the argument that his $2.4 million should have been part of a bigger ROR deal and it's hard to see it co-existing with either Cookie or O'Reilly...

my initial reaction was sour, but I'm getting more comfortable with it. Especially since Kampf plays more minutes than your usual fourth liner.

I don't LOVE IT, but it's certainly fine, especially once you get past this season and the cap should jump a few million each year.

This sums up my feelings as well.

The fact that Treliving is running back the same core 4, a coach who’s outclassed in every NHL playoff series he’s been involved, and now brings back a black hole offensively, makes me wonder what kind of knowledgeable hockey guy Treling really is if he can’t think of better alternatives, at least to the coach and the 4th line C.
Almost like the problem might be the president and not the GM's.
Dubas deserves blame for a number of things, but the actual problem might still be here.

At some point, you have to trust some of your internal options, no? Giving 4 year deals to bottom 6 players will simply block those options for a while and eat up more cap.

I like Kampf but this is aggressive, especially for someone with next to no offense
I'm a Kampf fan but this potentially blocks Holmberg at least from playing centre who showed he's an NHL player with some offensive potential.
