People dont comprehend how big of a venture leaving for NA can be.

Your life is turned upside down and nothing is guaranteed in the NHL.

I see nothing wrong with assuring you’re financially set for life and 100% ready for the transition before taking the NHL plunge.

Does Minnesota even contact him, I wonder. Maybe they don't need him next season in NHL...

If we want to bring out an inept offense, no we don't need him, you're right. Minnesota is 26th in the league in goals, our "2nd line" has Marcus Johansson on it, we have virtually no depth scoring, and the only reason that was possibly going to change next year is if Yurov made the team and had success.

At least it would only be one more year, presumably. He could then join the Wild as an impact player straight out of the Parise/Suter buyout years. Obviously, the concern is that this keeps happening and becomes a Kaprizov-like delay, but my hope is that he's doing this because he has some insight into his odds of making the NHL team, and it's better for him than playing in the AHL would be. If he feels he needs more development, I'd prefer he does it in a league and place where his development is already going well.

A lot of overreacting here, as 'negotiating' pretty much means just "Hey, what are your plans for the next season?".

Well it can also mean "how much money are you looking for on the contract you're gonna sign here", so you can understand why some Wild fans are disappointed. We're all really looking forward to Yurov, and he could help the forward group as early as next season.

It could mean pretty much everything from just kicking tires to a new 10 year contract getting registered like tomorrow. And that's why it just doesn't mean anything.

Well it still means something. It means if they can agree to terms he's almost certainly staying in the KHL for at least another year, as opposed to if they didn't negotiate at all, it's a much higher chance he'd be in the Wild's training camp next year.

I understand your point that negotiating doesn't necessarily mean a contract will happen, but it also definitely means a contract is much more likely to happen, which is what I didn't want to happen in any capacity.

I feel like you don't take into consideration that any KHL team will pretty much always offer a new contract to a young player, so there was no way there wouldn't be some sort of negotiations here.

No I get that most teams are going to try to offer most of their players contracts, but negotiating isn't just Metallurg offered a contract. It takes two sides to negotiate, which means Yurov is at the table willing to extend.

Unless the initial report wasn't worded correctly, and Yurov isn't negotiating.

The thing is, Yurov could always sign his ELC with Minnesota, come over and try to make the team, with everyone understanding that if he doesn't stick in the NHL, the Wild will loan him back to Metallurg. Obviously assuming the Wild agree to that, I would if I was in charge, but I'm not in charge. Extending with Metallurg now means there's no chance of him coming over. And I personally believe he would have a good shot at making the Wild out of camp, their offense isn't good.

Hope he declines, there’s room for him as early as this spring with the Wild. Marcus Johansson’s slot in the top 6 is waiting to be filled.

Even the initial post is stating that Metallurg is negotiating, doesn't say anything about Yurov's camp and it's reaction (unfortunately didn't find originating Russian source on that yet). But in Russian just kicking tires would also in some way mean a negotiation process, because it would still be a dialogue in some way.

With that being said considering how his progress is going on I would say a one year extension would make sense for him, especially if he want to continue developing at C.

It makes sense, I won't deny that, I just hate it as a fan of his that was looking forward to seeing him ASAP.

Why would Minnesota fans be upset, assuming it’s only a 1 year extension, 2 years max? This is perfect development for Yurov, getting consistent solid minutes on a strong balanced team. Last year he barely got any minutes, this is the first season that he’s been given a real shot.

1 year is really no big deal and like you said, could be good for him.

I think people are overreacting. He’s not gonna sign an extension. He almost came over this year but the Wild encouraged him to stay for another year so he did. Kid wants to come to North America. Went to the draft, came to development camp, follows the team on socials and interacts with Russo, etc. he’s not staying

I’m just pissed it looks like we have another year of Mojo, Hartman, Gaudreau & Foligno and the rest of the Guerin brigade being gifted top 9 minutes.

From a player development standpoint, it actually makes sense. Especially if he and the organization are committed to making C his longterm position

I'd rather just grab direct control of his development, not having to spend another year worrying about another year. The AHL wasn't beneath quite a few highly regarded young players that turned out to be stars.

Today the info appeared that they are indeed in active talks currently and that him staying is rather likely.
If he wasn’t gonna play in the NHL next year that’s fine by me. He just turned 20.
