I find that unlikely. If he wasn’t going to the Blues, I believe Vancouver takes him. If anything I wonder if Vancouver was set on Willander if they would field calls from teams to move up to that 11 spot if the Blues passed on Dvorsky. But it seemed with the picks that the blues made in the late first, Dvorsky was their guy at 10 if he was available.

I think once arizona was set on Simashev at 6, they would take But at 12 no matter what.

Off topic but can the thread title be changed, Dvorsky is with IK Oskarshamn now
The Blues released a 20 minute behind the scenes video earlier this week showing parts of their pre-draft deliberations and the draft itself. It shows they were very much after Dvorsky and we’re very high on him. Here’s a link:

But here are some highlights:
•Blues Director of Amateur Scouting Tony Feltrin says Dvorsky is one of the 7 players he wouldn’t move off of.
•Head Euro scout Jan Vopat says he’d move up to get Dvorsky but thinks there’s a chance he lasts to pick 10.
•As the draft is proceeding, Army is in talks to move down to pick 13 (Buffalo would presumably move up to 10) if Leonard and Dvorsky are both gone when it’s their turn to pick. He calls someone (logic would suggest Yzerman) and asks who they’re taking. The person on the phone (Yzerman) tells him, which tells him they will not be moving down (as Dvorsky will still be available) so he nixes the deal with Buffalo.

Getting a bit concerned as someone who drafted Dvorsky in a keeper league. 0 points in 4 games.

But what really concerms me is Oskarshamn looks like a mess to start this season and Dvorsky is apparently playing with grinders on their 3rd line. The Blues can't be overly excited with how he is being used. I wonder if at some point they bring him over to North America in-season to get him out of there, the Leafs did it with Nylander during the 2014-15 season.

Oskarshamn is awful, they basically have one scoring line (which Dvorsky is not on) then have the rest of their players just chip and chase for their shift then change. He played like 9 minutes today, not exactly great for his development.

A lot of options would be better than this, including playing a top line role in the Allsvenskan like Filip Forsberg did. I’m not familiar with the Blues AHL team so unsure what the situation is like in that regard

Looks like his CHL rights are owned by the Sudbury Wolves who are already using their two import slots on Chromiak (2024 eligible) and Vondras (Carolina 2023). Luckily Dvorsky should be well past the import trade restriction. I think the London Knights might have a slot open, would be a nice landing spot if the AHL isn't a good option.

Four games is a fart in the wind, man.

Better drop him boss. That's a big sample size!

Looks like the site hadn’t been updated when I was looking at the ice time. 9 to 14, little to no difference at the end of the day.

Apparently he told teams that he didn’t want to play junior hockey for another year during the draft process. So I doubt that will happen if those reports have truth to them. I would bet him on staying in Sweden no matter how much it may negatively effect his development

Little to no difference between 9 and 14? Pretty big difference to me. 12/13F vs middle-sixer.

14 minutes is on par with other high degree juniors throughout the past couple of seasons.

He won’t get a better role on any other team in the SHL.
I don’t doubt that but the question is more so related to what the best option is for Dvorsky in particular.

Would it be junior overseas, it could be, it’s still early on in the season. I guess St. Louis staff views it as a better development path for him to play 14 minutes a game in Sweden than 20+ in all situations on a junior team overseas.

It’s also worth noting that dvo is nearly 2 years younger than any of his teammates and is only skater not to have a - +/- rating. So team is struggling and he hasn’t made huge impact yet, but for 18 YO making his debut in tough pro league, holding his own is not nothing. Now if 2 months from now he hasn't found footing, that might be reason for bit of concern as to whether this is best path for his development. But at this point I don’t have any worries about his progression.

Care to elaborate?
Well, what can be said? He doesn't look like a guy ready to be effective at the SHL level. Whenever I watch them play he's at best invisible, at worst noticeably one of their worst players. Early days and the team is bad, but it's still kind of noteworthy how badly he has struggled.

A 7 game sample size is all he receives from yourself? You've officially written him off from 7 games played.
Not written him off. It's just looking at his play so far/right now. Obviously still has potential. SHL isn't an easy league for 18 year olds and he would probably be better served playing in Allsvenskan.

He was poor last season in the Allsvenskan as well. He just has to figure out how to play vs men. He's finding it very easy to dominate fellow kids but very hard to even keep up with pro's. Whether that's necessarily easier to learn in the Allsvenskan compared to SHL I don't know. It's a good thing he's playing pro hockey though. Playing junior hockey would do nothing for him.

The guy made a very bad decision when he signed with the worst team in the SHL.
This is the quote from when he signed:

''There were a number of clubs in the SHL that were interested and I had the privilege of choosing the one that suited me best. That it finally became Oskarshamn was an easy decision really. The organisation made a good impression on me right away. It will be the perfect challenge for me to take the next step in my development. The goal next season is to help the team win games and develop myself both on and off the ice says Dalibor.''

Clearly there are idiots around him. Playing 12 minutes per game for by far the worst team in the league is not a wise career choice.

If Dvorsky sucks in SHL and his team sucks then would it make perfect sense to go play somewhere else?
