R. Ďurkáč thanks for your promo... once was enough
Good point. Probably explains why they were reaching for pure upside.I looked it up. Last time the Blues had a top 10 pick was in 2008 when they took Alex Pietrangelo 4th.
Most of their picks in the first round (if they had a 1st round pick) was in the 20-30 range. So its fair to say the Blues haven't had the opportunity to draft a talented player like Dvorsky in quite some time.
The Wings opting for Danielson vs Dvorsky was an odd call and definitely an interesting one based on their drafting pedigree, I'd still bet on Dvorsky being>DanielsonGood point. Probably explains why they were reaching for pure upside.
However, there is considerable risk involved here. If Håkan Andersson thinks Dvorsky is still a bluechip prospect then Detroit doesn't pass on him. It's as simple as that. With the Blues drafting history, this was a bold move. Doesn't have to be a bad one but personally I don't like it. If you wanted a Slovak, I'd have went Honzek.
I was on the Dvorsky train but Detroit usually makes good calls with their Euro scouting. The Wings opting for Danielson vs Dvorsky was an odd call and definitely an interesting one based on their drafting pedigree, I'd still bet on Dvorsky being>Danielson
I agree but that also doesn't mean they didn't like him, perhaps they just liked Danielson a bit moreI was on the Dvorsky train but Detroit usually makes good calls with their Euro scouting.
That’s a takeHot but accurate take: Dvorskys a very good skater, just not a straigh ahead speed burner like a Fantilli or Kyrou. His stride mechanics, elusive east-west ability and strength on his skates are all well above average if not close to the elite tier. He’s still physically a kid with a ton of runway and physical growth remaining to be had.
Super excited about this kid in a blue note 2-3 years from now. Hopefully we can fix the D-core by then lol

I’m hoping for 90+ from Dvorsky. Not necessarily expecting it but hoping.I have no horse in this race, but I do find the Dvorsky vs Danielson to be an interesting debate. It was something I was going back and forth on when finalizing my rankings. Even more interesting now that they went back to back.
Danielson is bigger and the better skater. Dvorsky better offensive instincts. Danielson better release. Dvorsky better shot in space.
I think with Dvorsky, you're hoping for a 70 point, good defensive player. Danielson more 60 point with a better two way game. Both valuable players.
It's possible, but that's a fairly optimistic projection. I'd question if he's dynamic enough to create enough space for himself to put up those kind of totals. I think a good case for Dvorsky would be a similar player to Sebastian Aho which would still be a home run pick.I’m hoping for 90+ from Dvorsky. Not necessarily expecting it but hoping.
I had Dvorsky 6th, really loved him, he was my 2nd option after Reinbacher for the Habs at 5th OV. A 70 pts center with strong 2-way game and shooting skills was my projection. Danielson was 10th on my list, a 2-way beast center with 60 pts potential was also my projection. So I fully agree with about everything in your post, outiside of the size factor, Dvorsky is only half an inch shorter and weights more, he is also younger.I have no horse in this race, but I do find the Dvorsky vs Danielson to be an interesting debate. Basically a 1b center vs 2a center as far as Im concerned, thats very close.
Dvorský´s agent: It was expected that Dalibor Dvorský will be drafted by Arizona (#6) but player´s representatives did not agree with Dvorský going to Sudbury Wolves (OHL) next season. No interest for Dvorský to play in "Kids Disneyland."

Wasn’t Dvorsky eligible to play in the AHL anyways (where Arizona would have full control over his development)? So according to Dvorský's agent Arizona wanted to draft him as long as he was going to play for Sudbury? Did I understand that correctly? That can't be right. I mean, I can understand the Yotes wanted more control over Dvorský's development with a team in the OHL instead of the SHL, but then opting for a Simashev who plays in Russia, where you have no control over development at all?
I recommend you to listen to agent, but I can sum it up for you. People used to claim that he will be drafted at #6. During pre-draft interview with Arizona he & his representatives were asked if he would be OK with going to OHL next season. Agent responded that it is a red line, the player will not even discuss such a thing (& contract at all) if that is a plan for him. His parents invested a lot of time & resources into him, moved to Sweden at a young age... so he can not make any mistake and plays, as he says, in Kids Disneyland (junior hockey). Arizona has many picks every year, so they can make a mistake with one or two players, but Dvorský can not make any mistake. At the end, they did not pick him. ... and team´s scouts did not like what agent said.So according to Dvorský's agent Arizona wanted to draft him as long as he was going to play for Sudbury? You are welcome. Btw, interview is in Russian.Yup.
I can imagine putting him in the AHL might've felt like a step to far and they didn't potentially wanted to hurt his development though. St.Louis also had the opportinuty to play him in the AHL, but rather have him in the SHL.
Thanks for the translation. My Slovakian is a bit rusty.
Bit if true, that really means the Blues were lucky to be able to pick him.
Maybe he just didn’t want to play for Arizona?I recommend you to listen to agent, but I can sum it up for you. People used to claim that he will be drafted at #6. I believe Coyotes liked Dvorsky, just not as much as they liked Simashev. They took the player they like best, regardless of where he plays.but then opting for a Simashev who plays in Russia, where you have no control over development at all?
That would sound a lot more logical.I believe Coyotes liked Dvorsky, just not as much as they liked Simashev. They took the player they like best, regardless of where he plays.
I wish they had taken Dvorsky but I'm sure Simashev will grow on me.
And if this story is true, they may have just been testing dvo on whether he would blindly do what club wanted versus think for himself. Whether he failed the test or they did is the question I would pose.I believe Coyotes liked Dvorsky, just not as much as they liked Simashev. I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought they would get him with their 2nd firstI believe Coyotes liked Dvorsky, just not as much as they liked Simashev. They took the player they like best, regardless of where he plays.

I find that unlikely. If he wasn’t going to the Blues, I believe Vancouver takes him. If anything I wonder if Vancouver was set on Willander if they would field calls from teams to move up to that 11 spot if the Blues passed on Dvorsky. But it seemed with the picks that the blues made in the late first, Dvorsky was their guy at 10 if he was available.I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought they would get him with their 2nd first
