Over Dahlin? I don't think so.

I'm not saying that can't change a year from now, but from what I've seen of Laf so far, I don't know if he has the same kind of potential I see in Dahlin.

Dahlin is special true. For Montreal, I’d pick Laf because of the lack of Québécois superstars in the league and I would love to see him thrive and challenge in this city.

So Lafreniere will not play u18 wc cuz of QMJHL?!, Thats to fkn bad... Im going to umea in sweden to watch the canada - fin game.. Hoped so see him there vs anton lundell the top pick from Finland in next nhl draft....

Canada often doesn't have their top guys because of CHL playoffs. A championship with their teammates they spent the entire year or maybe multiple years with trying to accomplish is usually more coveted than a 2 week tournament.

Besides, Laf has played in U20s already so HC would likely have "graduated" him past U18s even if he was available.

Well, that's all she wrote for Lafreniére, Huskies sweep Oceanic 4-zip
Alexis scored 9 goals,15 assists, in 13 play-off games, that gives him 1.85 ppg, strong play-off performance by him.

Does u18 team Canada have roster spot available?

no, they do not. and even if they did I wouldn't being him over to play a medal game. just not worth it. I'd rather go with the guys I have in the room instead of trying to airlift a jetlagged player into the roster.

= 46 goals, 83 assists, 129 points, +62 with 88 penalty minutes for the Oceanic this season, in all competitions

Hlinka-Gretzky Cup + WJC for team Canada, 6 goals, 6 assists, 12 points

= 52 goals, 89 assists, 141 points, +64 (no +/- record from Hlinka) with 92 penalty minutes in all competitions

PS. Crosby in his D-1 season, 166 points in all competitions, 166 vs 141, not that big of a difference if you ask me

I don't think this is an objective way of comparing prospects.

It is when you consider Crosby was in his 16 year old season and Laf was in his 17 year old season

Significantly better competition in the CHL, especially Playoffs than that crap tournament.

It's like 15% difference, it's noticeable.

Maybe just simply because of the older age , players would face more skilled players than they'd typically face in the CHL playing against top Nations however. U-18 NTDP can beat any CHL team , especially this years version.
