This guy reminds me of Svechnikov, but as a center. Such a big, skilled, physical stud. Great release and hands to go along with it. I don't know if he ends up better than Michkov, but I understand why he'd go 2

Were you on HF during that 2014-15 season?
I've been on HFboards since before Crosby. But shh, don't tell the mods.

But seriously, I don't agree with you. The fact that Owen Power was Canadian didn't exactly hurt him. It's just not relevant, you'll need to make a stronger case as to why it is because I'm not seeing it.

It is because nobody is feeling the need to pump his tires.

Throughout the 2014-15 season, we had a number of Americans pushing the comparison with McDavid hard. No one is simply a big enough fan of college hockey to try to make that kind of case, which inherently stirs up tons of discussion, for Fantilli.

You've been dwelling on this for almost seven years? Would it make you feel better to call Fantilli the Eichel to McDavid's Bedard? The reality is nothing Fantilli will do this year will cause him to unseat Bedard. The fact some posters are jumping on that bandwagon is amusing, but then again HF is built on the micro and is hot take central.

Dwelling? No. I am simply perceiving a parallel between McDavid-Eichel and Bedard-Fantilli, which you are free to disagree with, that has not extended to similar levels of heated debate.

If he was American the hype would be through the roof as the Eichel to Bedard’s McDavid.

Completely disagree.

He’s a very good player. He’s not very exciting though. He’s probably a better version of Beniers, another player that doesn’t excite many.

Eichel had better offensive skills. Fantilli is doing great, but these Michigan players all have inflated stats.

Eichel carried an average team to the National Title game. Michigan is one of the best teams in the country with or without Fantilli.

I understand what you’re trying to suggest. You are suggesting his nationality works against him choosing college hockey. Canadians watch CHL more. Americans watch USHL/College Hockey more.

What I’ve found on this website and other places like Twitter is that most people will discuss the players playing in a certain area, regardless of nationality. At least that’s how I view it. Jayden Perron is one of my favorite 2023 draft eligibles from the USHL. He’s Canadian. Ryan Leonard is a better prospect than him, but I have more impetus to watch and update about Perron. I preferred the Canadian Greene to the American Lund among the two Green Bay centers that were drafted second round last year.

It’s sometimes a little easier for anyone to get excited about players of their nationality, but that’s not what’s going on with Fantilli. He’s a good player, but not very exciting. Some of his numbers the past few years have also been a little inflated playing for the super team in USHL and NCAA.

I think Bedard is on the same level as McDavid, or that Fantilli is in the same level as Eichel in terms of prowler profile. I think Fantilli is closer to Eichel though than Bedard to McDavid. I think Eichel was just an ultra elite athlete/slater

Rather the impression that Connor Bedard is a similarly talented player to Jack Hughes.

Technically very gifted, he shoots a lot but it is also an admission that he does not get enough help from his teammates. McDavid was flying on the ice and making his teammates shine.

Fantilli's stats are inflated by the level of his team. Eichel was less well surrounded.

The memory of the last U18 world tournament remains. It is at the U20 World Championship that Fantilli can change the vision of things.

I think we overrated Bedard, like Wright. They were doing huge things at 13-14-15 that are being repeated by the Misa/Roobroeck/McKenna/Kosick/Rozzi generation.

A player like McDavid is extremely rare. For me he is the greatest offensive player of all time. In the 80s, he could very well have had a 3 points per game season.

Do you have to go to every thread to talk about how mistreated and underhyped Canadian players are?

Anyway, strong start to the season by Fantilli and if he keeps this up it'll be very interesting to see how the draft goes. Although he of course is not likely to keep scoring at 2.5 points per game.

Being neither Canadian nor American, I can give my point of view. Before the draft, Canadian players are overrated and American players are underrated.
