Knowing how recent Top 3 picks started their carriers in the NHL outside of McDavid/Matthews, IMO your point isn't as good as you think. Outside of Bedard/Michkov no one out of this Draft is helping an NHL Team as 18/19 year old IMO. And I don’t think that even Bedard will be that big help in his first year (in sense of winning games and not selling tickets).

And to have someone like Kotkaniemi or Dach on a million dollar contract to begin 26/27 while someone like Kaprizov or Panarin (and Michkov will be at least on their level coming from the KHL) is on an ELC is not looking good for a GM (who could picked Michkov) either.

Since when a player praying another player is any sort of credible indicator?
Let’s see who has a more impactful WJC. No doubt if Fantilli out shines Bedard, the Bedardist will seek refuge in a host of excuses. Such is the tyranny of the consensus.

In his 15-year-old season, Bedard made the 2020-21 U-18 team and dominated the tournament. In his 16-year-old season, he performed better than Fantilli on the U-18 team, was excellent in two Winter U-20 games and was 9th in scoring at the Summer U-20. Fantilli couldn't even make the 2020-21 U-18 or 2021-22 U-20 teams as a 04, let alone outshine Bedard.

If he somehow manages to outshine Bedard at the 2022-23 U-20, I don't think it'll change any opinions, nor should it.

All development progressions are different. What a player did at 15/16 is only one factor. Ask Esposito, Wright, etc. All I’m saying is if Fantilli continues to shine at Michigan and clearly out performs Bedard at the WJC, there may be one or more teams that would buck the consensus. It’s all about projections.

Bedard was the significantly better player at the u18s. Even if Fantilli outperforms Bedard at WJC (and that's very unlikely), scouts will go with the kid who is 9 months younger with the much more impressive track record.

Bedard is very clearly a tier ahead of Fantilli IMO.

I suspect many scouts would agree with you. And of course scouts are never wrong.

We're talking about likelihood of Fantilli overtaking Bedard for #1, not who will end up the better player. There really isn't a realistic scenario where the 95%+ of the scouting community don't have Bedard over Fantilli at the time of the draft, which means Fantilli ain't going #1.

Bedard would have to sustain a serious injury and have the wheels completely fall off. And even then, it's more likely Michkov goes 1st than Fantilli.

All opinions here cost the same: whether influenced by the consensus or otherwise.
Given how you said that Fantilli was better than Bedard at the U18‘s - it’s obvious you hadn’t watched the tournament and after being called out for it are running scared with your tail between your legs.

Fantilli outperformed Bedard at the recent U18. If the same happens at the upcoming WJC, there will be more than one team that will consider Fantilli as the better NHL prospect.
what??? no he didnt Lol and no scout will take Fantilli over Bedard,Connor is a much better prospect and almost a year younger then Fantilli

and thats no knock on Adam i love him has a prospect

Back to Fantilli, he reminds me alot of Byfield. I think pre-draft they share alot of abilities and similar levels of hype.
Really? Byfield always seemed like a big yet gentle playmaker who could skate.

Fantilli is more of a shooting power forward type, who plays a very aggressive style and has a more dangerous release. He's kind of like Ovechkin in that way

Fair enough but 2 points here.

1) If the team picking second in the 23 draft ends up with a Dach/Kotkaniemi type of player they are probably going to get fired.

2) If the team picking Michov at 2nd doesn't get him on that NHL club until 26/27 (and with the probable quality of the next couple of guys) then he is getting fired anyways.

Fantilli is really stepping it up to be the second player drafted this year and his body projects very well for the NHL sooner rather than later.

Fantastic release for a goal 1 minute in

Then follows it up undressing a dman for a partial breakaway but gets credit for a primary assist

Maybe he can maintain a 2 points per game

I think Fantilli is a fantastic prospect, 1st overall calibre in some other years, but if you're talking projection, Bedard is one of the younger players in the draft class (Fantilli an older player) and should have some more runway.

No question, I live in fear. Or maybe I just have a job of some importance that I have to attend to.

Fair enough, most posters on this board have jobs too.
My favourite hobby is being an armchair scout, so a good majority of my free time go towards it, I’m definitely a nerd in this regard haha.
Appriciate the discourse though, and enjoy your weekend.
