Very true... I've always said if I wanted to be an NHLer I'd go to the AHL.. if I wanted to make a living playing hockey, no way I'd choose the AHL.

I remember Kypreos make a joke years ago about how the AHL is amazing because once you go down there you never want to return.lol

FTR..I do think AHL is number 2 in the world and people hate that! My reasoning is beause 90 percent of NHL D and Goalies played in the AHL before joining the NHL. 2 seasons ago, all the best Czechs were in the AHL too... simek, spacek, chytil, necas, zadina, kase, francouz...

But, no, I wouldn't want to be a career AHLer.. I'll take Swizterland!

The AHL is a bitch...

Not easy travel... very physical... extremely demanding...

And low pay compared to what Spacek will get back in Europe... with the life style... and environment he grew up in...

I remember trying to describe a road trip to a guy in Sweden wondering why so many WHL players were so Pro ready... versus playing Pro in Sweden on pure mileage comparison alone...

I described the road trips alone... 6 days at a time... starting in Medicine Hat... moving down to Tri-Cities... to Kelowna... to Calgary, Lethbridge and Edmonton...

There was no Google maps back then to chart mileage... hard to comprehend...

Spacek played for Red Deer... then the Moose in the AHL...

That is like the Bataan death march...

Spacek would have been better served going back to Czech Republic and playing 2-3 years then coming over ala Dominic Kubalik

I legit think he will.. not a second coming or anything but a solid season in AHL and he might be knocking on the door. He's quite good!

Funny thing is when the Caps drafted Has last year we were all in shock. Since Has was playing in Finland by the draft and the Capitals haven't drafted a Finnish player in decades. It felt so unnatural. Then we all breathed a sigh of relief when we found out he was Czech

Caps have been good to Czech people! Pivonka all the way to Vrana.

Last year you had 4 I believe in the 'bubble'.. Vanecek, Vrana, Gudas and Kempny! Shame about Kempny and the injury... his career might be done.

My dream is a Spring at the worlds as well.. hoping the second arena is Brno which is my hometown. I'd be in heaven for 3 weeks!

Since I'm an Oiler fan.. I've become a huge World Championships fan because the Oil are usually out of the playoffs by Xmas time.lol It's my fav tourney and I want a picture with a Skoda car in the corner and one of the 'player of the game' girls after the game.haha

The Winnipeg Moose are a premier, upscale version of the WHL with even worse travel...

Honestly, Extraliga is not where you go to find Elite Dmen... get him to Sweden or the CHL. Hronek is our best D by far and he went in round 2 I believe. I'm not even sure if I'd 'trust' drafting a Czech D in round 1.. we really dont' have that many good ones anymore.

I think the Czech Republic needs to do a better job of keeping their young talent in their country and then developing them! The Czechs use to produce some great great players and still do it just seems like not as many

Our Junior leagues suck. If I had a son who was really good.. we'd leave too. It creates a massive trickle effect.
