Everyone saying Vatanen should be dropped are not thinking it thoroughly

Established players estimated to be important pieces in their position shouldn't be dropped from the team after bad performances in practice games, expecially if said player has a history not trying his best in these kind of games. I know it is kind of an excuse and professionals are expected to always try their best, but that is simply not the case with all players.

Vatanen plays an important part in the offensive game of the Finnish blueline. If he plays as badly in the actual tournament, it's a different matter entirely. I don't believe that for a moment though.
Vatanen played like garbage but I don't think he should be dropped. He's the most experienced Finnish defensive player and a vital asset when he gets his game on. If he was dropped, who would even take his place?

Whats up with laine-barkov-jokinen line? They played so well at the world championships and now they aren't really generating too much?

They played quite good against small countries. Finnish national team has had information that Panthers don't play Jokinen and Barkov together after they tried them together and found that they are better when separated. Still Finland put then in the same line. That must be one of the most stupid ideas for a while.

Yeah, not a f***ing chance in this game. Just as I expected.

You don't take penalties, have defensemen making mistakes and win against teams who run their offense through two of the best offensive defensemen on the planet and through, well, Sedins. Sweden deserved to win this one. We deserve to learn from the numerous mistakes made throughout the game. Hopefully we'll do better next time.

You owned the second period. And our usually amazing offensive D-men looked horrible in this game.

Laine and Jokinen have been disappointments so far. Barkov surely needs better playmates.

I agree.I would swap Laine to Granlund and see if granny and barky can find chemistry together because they've been our best forwards in these 2 games and we need atleast one scoring line.

And there is Donskoi in 2nd line who can serve saucer passes to Laine so he would get those scoring chances in that line aswell.

Oh,and Vatanen really needs to pull his head out of his ***.Brutal 2 games.

Sami Lepistö has a grand total of 18 NHL games less than Vatanen. Truckload more international games, KHL games etc.
If Vatanen plays this bad and isn't dropped, then what does that say to the other players? Put Sami in vs USA, see how he does. Same with Aho for Teräväinen, Korpikoski or Lehterä.

These games are showing why defense is so important, we Finns lack of quality defenseman and it's showing all over the ice.
Sweden sadly doesn't have that problem

Vatanen should not be dropped, but he needs to wake up, and pass the damm puck.

I'll compile puck stats for the entire Finnish team, I really want some clarity for where the problem lies. I'll post the results in the Finnish team thread in a couple hours.

Six goals allowed is way too much seeing how the games were played. Some goalie rust, but mostly turnovers and penalties. More lines need to generate offense 5v5.

How have they look horrible? I don't get it! You're talking about Karlsson and OEL, right?
He's exaggerating. They weren't horrible, they just didn't dominate as much as expected. They just leaned back and were a part of the team.

Must feel nice for both Karlsson and OEL that they don't have to do everything on their own if their team is to be successful.

Statistical loss.. decent 5on5 performance. Vatanen is lost and Teräväinen needs to be benched

Finland was better the 2nd half of 2nd period. Thats it.

Sweden deserved victory.

The real game will be the tie breaker!

That exactly why i'm asking. It is pretty obvious that they are simply applying the team's system. The Offence isn't center around the D. The puck is always down in the zone.

I was wondering what he saw that was "horrible" ?

Karlsson and OEL were fine. They are not going to be leading the offense in this tournament like they do on their own teams. So please lower your expectations for them this tournament.
