Laine's having the same problems Zacha was in preseason last year. Different level of competition, but there's likely going to be an adjustment period for him.

Yep. I just hope he gets an early jump on it during this tournament, so it won't be as much of a transition during the regular season.

Really? Are we watching the same game? What's with all the swedish supporters being so eager to jump on their own team? Sweden has been better both in PP and 5v5, and with a margin.

Not during the second period.

That was one of the worst periods I have ever seen from a "best" Swedish national team. Heck, we even played better when we lost to Belarus, we just couldn't score.

Tonight every defenceman not named Hedman has looked bad/uninterested.

Well, not likely that he will meet defences of this calibre as a routine matter. Anyway, a mystery how he is not fed during the powerplays as he positions himself quite nicely and makes even rather good passes.

Some people take this too seriously. It's an exhibition game, the pace is not so bad but none of the elite players really take this too seriously. People saying OEL and Karlsson look uninterested, I expect them to be a lot better when the tournament starts and games matters

Not a chance. The effort is definately there. Remember, this is Sweden-Finland after all, the players care as evidenced by that one big srum.

Sure there is bound to be some rust, that's different, but there is no way a guy like Karlsson for instance would be half-assing it out there, especially in front of his home crowd with lots of friends and family watching.

To be fair, Koivu probably would of deserve a roughing penalty,
yes, he defended Granlund, but Koivu did swing two or three punches
there and received couple too.

There were no slashing though, but refs did miss Koivu's roughing pen

Laine will step it up vs USA or latest vs Young Guns. Sweden along with Canada are the 2 best defensive teams in this tournament and Laine is still adjusting to the NA rink. I think it will get easier vs other teams than Sweden.

Vatanen is righty and sweden has pretty aggressive kill.

If it isn't lack of effort, he is out of shape. Looks extremely slow, both on the skates and in everything he does.

Even if finland losts this game, they have played a lot better than last game. First period was "meh" because of so much of PK.

I'm expecting that to be a brutal game for us, it takes about a week to get used to time difference and they won't have that much time in NA before the USA game.

Is Hedman getting how much ice time? If i would be Swedish head coach he would be my #1 defenseman.

Vatanen is lefty and sweden has pretty aggressive kill. No time to get clean passes to him. You're welcome.

Cheers! Yes, this seems to be the agreed explanation but supposedly they have been really practicing to utilize his shot in pp. Does not much look like it.

Yeah, he is facing low tier NHL defensemen right now and can't do much

Swedish D is only one part of this mess. That's very poor excuse btw. Laine doens't have any clue how to play in there. His positioning is terrible and he doens't know the shoot angles. 1-2 months in AHL and he will be rdy. Right now he's not and if peg wants to compete, they should play their best roster.

I don't understand the bashing of Laine, of course it'll be tough for him to be a prominent player against an elite Swedish team. He's not exactly facing Kazakstan here.

This is even tougher than the NHL, as a kid, what is he expected to do?

Well that"s obvious to happen in the first few games of the season. Doesn't mean he is out of shape but just not so adjusted to the real games. This is why we are having these pregames.

So called "experts" call him to score +30 goals in next season.
