Why Toronto specifically?
It was rumored that toronto, among other teams like pittsburgh, was scouting him while he was in the ahl. Toronto also seems to have a progressive mandate (which is good) indicated by how they try to include diversity (women and people who think differently) and analytics in their organization. It appears that they’re trying to building something good.

In comes evander kane. What we do know for sure is that he tried to bypass vaccine protocols with a fake card. In that situation, he just comes off as a d***.

In terms of allegations, there may be domestic abuse, consistent clashing with teammates, and some rumors that his teammates asked the gm to get rid of him. San Jose refused to even play him this season.

He contradicts everything dubas is claiming to build.

The leafs also hired and then quickly let go of a goaltending coach because all he did was like some tweets.

People are going to complain the Sharks are getting an unfair advantage by essentially washing their hands of a cancer but I think it's completely justified.

Dude didn't just break team policy/protocol, he brazenly broke the rules the NHL set out. You go against the league and you could be gotten rid of in an instant. And then he decided to f*** around in the AHL on top of that. Absolute buffoon

Now the real question is who takes a chance? Douchebaggery aside Kane is still a damn good player and someone with take the risk given the talent to cost ratio

I would HOPE that there is NO LENIENCY for him in regards to breaching health and safety protocols and by doing that him NOT having to pay back previous debts because of it...but who knows!?

Two separate issues. If he violates safety protocols, suspend him. If he gets rid of his debts, good for him. If he somehow ends up getting rid of his debts by violating safety protocols... well played I guess? :dunno:

Didn't realize he won that.

If I had to choose a winner or loser, I would say he lost. Had he won, he would have gotten the buyout terms which are much more favorable to him. The actual payout is significantly in favor of the kings in terms of duration.

Interesting. Any new revelations or incidents with him?

I always wondered why SJS didn't do this right away, submitting fake vaccine card during pandemic seemed like decent grounds. Hell, Jake Dotchin got terminated for showing up to trianing camp with a beer gut.

I guess it will be fought hard in a messy battle with Kane's camp and they wanted to see if they could swindle someone into taking him first
They probably did what any organization with a decent HR department would do and document/build a bulletproof case for dismissing someone—rather than reacting immediately at the first incident and risk failing to show cause.

This guy was a very good player last season. I understand his practice habits suck, that he’s a POS off the ice, that teammates don’t like him for several reasons. But on the ice, he’s big, fast, strong, high skill level, big shot and he hits. He’s a legit and rare power forward type. Someone is going to sign this guy and if he plays focused, they could get a Tony DeAngelo outcome.

I really doubt Carolina is regretting signing DeAngelo. He’s been extremely productive for them at his tiny cap hit.

I’d support the Avs signing him for $1mm to finish out this season.
It’s be VERY interesting if he’d go to VEGAS, considering the history and all.

I'd be surprised if violating AHL protocols is considered a sufficient breach of contract to allow the Sharks to unilaterally terminate, but, uh, I guess we'll see what the NHL says (if anything).

It's probably more of a combo deal.

He was a dumbass at the NHL level, we have him a chance to redeem himself and he promptly did the same shit in the AHL.

If it was AHL only this wouldn't even be a thread.

Could someone elaborate what happens when a person is in personal bankruptcy? The judicial system I am most familiar with, does not have a similar concept.

Let's say Kane accepts the contract termination and is deemed personally bankrupt by a court. I assume his possessings will be liquidated and given to the parties owning the debt so that Kane's personal saldo will be 0,00? Will there be any payment schedules etc. for a share of his future earnings or is it going to be a de facto "end of an era" after the liquidation?

If the answer to the last question is yes, could he just wait without an NHL contract until the liquidation is completed, sign a contract and pocket all the earnings from his new contract?

I may be giving his thought process far too much credit (any credit at all might be too much), but doesn't this potentially benefit him financially in the long-run? Wasn't the reason he couldn't discharge his debts via bankruptcy due to his Sharks contract? If that is terminated, does that present the possibility of the remaining debt being discharged and, 6 months to a year down the line when a team offers him a new contract, he'll be making money that won't be stripped away to his creditors any longer? I recognize I may (or am even likely to) be misunderstanding the ramifications of bankruptcy or the type of bankruptcy he declared.
I was wondering if he did this on purpose because the bankruptcy. He can go broke now and sign new contract and start from zero?

Not familiar enough with the bankruptcy laws in US, but it would make sense.

I was thinking this too but I am not familiar enough with bankruptcy to say either.

As I understand it, his bankruptcy case last I heard was on appeal by 3 creditors who are appealing the trial court decision to keep it a chapter 7. If Kane wins the appeal, his contract would not be used to settle debts - he would keep it.

The termination absolutely would be fought by the NHLPA. They have a duty of fair representation to him. If the NHLPA fails in that duty, Kane can sue them.

Maybe they would win in the playoffs if they let actual hockey people run the team instead of analytics dweebs. Bringing in this cancer is the exact opposite of building something good.

In terms of a griveance, I imagine that Kane gets back a good chunk of the money he will lose due to the contract termination, but the Sharks won't be on the hook for any of his cap. I think something similar happened with Simon Despres and Mike Richards.

I was sure Kane would do something stupid eventually. I admit I did not think it would happen this fast.

Paul is too big now. Nobody will care to watch him fight a hockey player.
I agree. Makes me sad too. The fact that a shit show idiot like Jake Paul is “too big” for anything makes me mourn for us all. Social media has done a job on this country.

If things were remotely normal, and I do mean remotely, we’d all be saying “Jake who?”

If his contract is terminated what happens to the people who he owes money to?

Can his creditors go after any new contract he signs?
