The Sens needed another puck mover to carry it out, make the breakout, and join the rush. This is the element that we have seen improve since the Calgary game. Brannstrom, despite not being perfect on the backend, bring those other elements in spades. I like this Brannstrom, Unleashed!

With him on the line-up, we will score more goals, stay less in our zone, and profit.

Spending less time in the Sens zone is already awesome and it will improve even more when Sanderson is added. What a luxury to be able to have one of Chabot, Brannstrom or Sanderson on the ice at all times even strength.

Now imagine when they bring back Pinto and Brown and hopefully add another top 6 forward? Just that better slotting would make a massive difference in the likelihood of converting the extra chances the breakout is creating.

Has it ever been evident! Along with having a shut down pair of Zub Holden has changed the entire look of the team.

Terrifies me to think that Zaitsev and Brown likely will both be in the lineup when Zaitsev is back. But it likely ensures a bottom 5 pick.

JBD played 17+ of quiet minutes last night, ending with a quiet +1. When Comrade Zaitsev is back, I would put Brown either on the taxi squad or have him play in Belleville if meritocracy have any say. Not sure if MDZ has burned all his bridges, but that's the rotational/taxi squad guy as he still brings far more than Josh Brown. Of all the liberties the Penns' were taking, especially after seeing Norris come out of that scrum with a busted nose, you would like to see the supposed tough guy who doesn't fight/hit/engage do something.

Brannstrom should be a regular, and we have to live with his mistakes. The good outweighs the bad he is working on.

JBD has been good .. not flashy at all but calm and steady. He has been pretty good on board battles and he moved the puck efficiently.

Brannstrom has been really good a moving the puck . . and his offensive game really stands out. He will playout the year.

I think he's been given the big GREEN LIGHT .. to just bring what he can... and he is really showing his strengths.
Hockey sense, puck skills are on display. I think he's been ok defensively.. and his with the puck play has been very good.
He is not being harshly judged for the odd defensive short coming and the reins have been let go to let him play to his strengths.
I know people have said he has not improved ..he was always great but his dzone play has improved whether its just time space awareness that everyone has to improve on when they enter the league or its more than that. I find he is using his teammates in tight spots vs trying to beat the man with his feet much better.

Beauty feed to Norris. He had another one from behind the net .. I think it was to Gaudette that didn't work but it was a really nice quick play.
His passing has been excellent.
Could a part of it be that he is used to or more comfortable playing the left side now? He played right side for most of his career right?

He doesn’t play on the right when hes with Brown. He hasn’t been moved to the right. He’s just on the right in the O zone when he’s with Chabot

Jbd has to be the quietest player I’ve ever watched. Not in a bad way

Brannstrom's mistakes seem to always be highlighted when I see every other dman make similar ones, including Chabot, but generally they get more of a pass because the script on them is that they are more solid defensively.

He doesn't make more mistakes imo. It's just a narrative around here that needs to change.

I know he plays on the left side...the Sens made him play on the left side. Before he was a left shot D that played on the right side. I was just asking if him feeling more comfortable on the left side might be one of the factors with him playing better. People are saying the confidence/comfort level he has playing more is a reason. I'm just asking if that applies to him playing on the left side as well. Play your whole career on the right, then get to the highest level and before you can learn or adjust to that level...you get flipped to the left. Gotta have an effect.

He without question gets easily passed by against bigger forwards relative to Chabot. Chabot at least slows them down when he challenges them, they skate unscathed by Brannstrom. Very, very notable.

It may not be as frequent here, but.. boy, I watched Girard turn to a rag doll in the playoffs against LVG..

In the playoffs it'll be a huge deterrent.

I believe Brann can work on his strength some more because of his build, it's more stockier than the shorter defenders, kinda similar to Letang.

Such amazing hockey IQ. Feels right now he can put the puck anywhere he wants to on the ice.

imagine he’s better then Chabot and Sanderson. Poo-Jeans would appoint Dorion the ‘Pope of the Ottawa Senators’

his hit the other night, I was just thinking the day before after seeing Krug run over that guy at the bench how good would Brannstrom be if he could play a bit more like Torrey Krug and next game he is dominating and completely lays a guy out with maybe the Sens hit of the year. Unreal it’s like Covid gave him superpowers

He has played a lot better lately and I have been impressed. I was becoming pretty skeptical given his play earlier this season and how he was struggling to make improvements on his flaws. I am still not sure what to think about him though. I am not sure whether he is a utility player such as a puck moving and powerplay specialist or a legit top 4 d man. These last two games have given me more confidence in his all round play and give me the impression that he could potentially be a top 4 d man that doesn't need to be insulated. Hopefully he can keep trending in this direction.

Brannstrom fans have been calling for this for awhile now. It would decrease Chabot's ice-time to more manageable levels.
PP mins aren't tough mins, they aren't the real problem with Chabot's icetime. Cut down on the 5v5 play if you want him to have more energy

Real happy to see Branstrom’s game coming together. We were all told what he needed to work on by DJ and Mann, and he looks like he has really done it. I wasn’t sure if he could adapt his game, but he has been great in many of the areas where he used to really struggle. Love it!

It looks like we have Chabot, Zub, Bran, JBD, Thompson, Sanderson looking like NHLers.

Add in Kleven, who I’m really pulling for, and I can see the beginnings of a killer back end.

That would make for a pretty good improvement in team puck possession.
(Something this team desperately needs.)

It often looks like Chabot is using those PP minutes to rest though. Very little urgency to move the puck up ice with pace and gain the blue line. Chabot can hold and walk the line, is a good passer, but is no threat to score from the point on the PP.

Even mixing it up some, where if a PP is drawn while Chabot is on the ice, start Brannstrom so Chabot can be fresh to QB the second half of the PP.
