No worries - Erie’s just justifying giving him to you for free w nothing in returnWhat's the hold up on the Molnar deal? Taking a lot longer than expected.

No idea. Maybe our GM is really nice and doesn't like free and Erie ends up with some picks lolNo worries - Erie’s just justifying giving him to you for free w nothing in return

I just hope that it's not about $5 beers... the last time Sudbury made a HUGE announcement that's what it was about, fingers crossed that its actually big news!We got notice on the interwebs of a "big announcement" tomorrow at 10 AM, EST. Unless it's Quentin Musty coming over I don't think it's about a trade, but who knows lol.
ohh that would be fun, I hope that's what is for!!I'm thinking it's a jersey retirement. McDavid?

About time!January 10, 2025 is McDavid Jersey Retirement night...
Good stuff...
Looks EDM plays in Pittsburgh the night before and in Chicago the night after. He'll probably drive up from Pittsburgh, I imagine there's a decent chance Connor Brown and Knoblauch come too. It's awesome they were able to get him to commit to coming mid-season, I'm sure that took some convincing. I hope 97 knows hockey people in Erie are grateful he came here (or at least this hockey person is). He could've forced his way to London or Kitchener or Windsor or really wherever he wanted but he came to play for the worst franchise in the league, teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and relocation and playing in a run-down arena awaiting renovation. 12 years since he was drafted and things have changed. Thanks Connor, you were a pleasure to watch in Erie just as you are in Edmonton. Pulling hard for you to win the big one.About time!
In all seriousness, we knew this day was inevitable but im glad they waited a bit of time before actually doing it. I’m happy they have at least a solid team this year as well. And I’m also happy they are doing McDavid first. I think many fans speculated Debrincat/Strome and yes, I think their time should come but imo, I would wait another 5+ years for that… if possible. McDavid started it all and without him, none of the rest happens and given his status in the pros, he’s more deserving of this moment, at this time. And they basically waited a decade to bring him back so it seems right. Man, I wish McDavid won the cup in the summer even more now.. just as more of a statement with his overall legacy but this is exciting! Can’t wait to go
Tells you a lot about the young man as you are correct sadly a lot of players may have said “No Thanks”. Not an Oilers fan but I sure would like to see him hoist a Stanley Cup sooner rather than later!Looks EDM plays in Pittsburgh the night before and in Chicago the night after. I don’t really think many players ever even get asked or honored to have their jersey retired.. ultimately it’s a rare thing so do we have evidence of anyone saying “no thanks” to such a special thing. Usually players that would say no are probably not special enough to ever even be asked… just my thoughtsTells you a lot about the young man as you are correct sadly a lot of players may have said “No Thanks”. Misa is torching em. Very Bramptonish squad in Saginaw.
Debrincat and strome will 1000% get it too but yes you’re right had to be McDavid first especially being pretty much the consensus best player in the nhl 5 years runningAbout time!

I was speaking to the fact that he reported to Erie once drafted, not the fact he is coming to his jersey retirement. Maybe reread the post I replied to for better context? That’s kinda my thought process. You’d think that would be in play with all the Molnár rumors and the delay on it. In the next 4 years they have 2 seconds at their disposal, which they can never hit on anyways, 2 thirds, 5 fourths, and 4 fifths, so you’d think at least give it a shot. And as you noted, having actual players (Schaefer, Spence) to get them back unlike 2017 where basically everyone left helps. I’d say they give it a shot and if it doesn’t happen, so be it, but if it does, that’s a scary offense. Hopefully Schaefer comes back sooner rather than later which will help the D which hasn’t been too bad so far, but it would obviously be much better with him in the lineup.
Does anyone think Erie could be in play? His hometown is basically in Erie’s backyard and it’s possible he has a short list of teams he will be willing to go to. And maybe he wants to stay closer to home after being far away in Sudbury the past few years. If true, that would lower his price a bit. Not to mention the Molnar rumors and its possible that’s been the delay in moving him to SBY because he is going to be part of a Musty trade?
At some point, Erie will need to add at least a top 9 forward if they want to actually make a run. Musty would certainly qualify and solidify their top 9. Im not saying Erie will be in on it or even have enough to pull it off but if Musty has them on a short list of teams, don’t underestimate DB throwing in all his assets here. I’m less concerned about them depleting their picks when they have real players to trade next year to immediately recoup them.
Sorry, I don’t know how I misread that. Thanks for clarityI was speaking to the fact that he reported to Erie once drafted, not the fact he is coming to his jersey retirement. Maybe reread the post I replied to for better context? Cheers
