Molnars family is in town.

Kulakov has a custom made shirt with Ondjre’s face on it. It’s clear the imports have each others back.

No Cohen. He’s injured. Gilmartin didn’t say exactly what the injury is.

I believe Kulakov and Molnar billet together.

I heard from Terrance's dad last night that Cohen is done for the year.

That’s too bad. His late season concussion took him out. I’m glad they’re taking extra measures especially if he wants to play college hockey. It’s unfortunate, but it’s for the best long term. He made his dad proud in Erie.

How can Cohen play college hockey?

Ah so you mean in Canada. I see “college hockey” and assume you’re talking NCAA, which he can’t.

We call it university hockey up here. Not sure why.
I learned something new today!
I know he wants to make a push to the NHL, but realistically I’m not sure. I had hopes that he would’ve contributed more this year since he did really well the year before all things considered.

Usports now.
The OCAA was good at one time. Many teams could beat many jrA/B teams and universities. The nationally ranked teams were 80% chl players of which a few were in the IHL or AHL for the year allowed before forfeiting OHL education package.
I’m not even sure good college hockey exists in Canada now.

Yeah I know the league is called USports, but colloquially it’s called university hockey.

It’s been a few years since I paid attention but I think you’re right about the calibre of play.

Looking at the 2023 OHL Draft, who do you think Erie targets? 4/5 of the top prospects are forwards headlined by Ryan Roobroeck

The larger question is...

Out of the top 4 available who is willing to report? It seems to never fail year after year you hear of kids who will opt out of the OHL if they are selected by certain programs.

One has to assume Roobroeck has been talked to by our organization. He was rumored to have tried for ES last season along with Spence and Misa and a couple others.

Matthew Schaefer supposedly is the best D prospect since Drysdale.

I'll admit I don't live in Canada so I can't watch any of them play. I would have to think whomever is the top ranked player willing to come here is who we will shoot for rather than who actually may be the best available at that time.

Sad state of affairs for the entire OHL (CHL) now a days but you are bang on. Used to be a time when you picked the best player available and had a genuine shot at having them show regardless of what team you were. Not so much anymore and ALL the power lays with the player and there agent. I just get tired of all the BS that comes out of the mouths of most of these players / agents? Must suck being a GM in the OHL your career is basically riding on the integrity of these players / agents.

It has been said he is similar to Drysdale.
And Dickinson the top D prospect since Eckblad.

Hope you win the Roebroek sweepstakes.
You should get an excellent player regardless. The are supposedly two US born in the 2-5 range.

Wouldn't it be amazing if top rated US players would consider the OHL the way Canadians do?

Having watched D1 hockey in Erie at Mercyhurst University its not all that far off of the OHL and in some instances above because of the ages.

I think the American mindset is free ride to college while playing > OHL in most instances.

Musty went to the wolves #1 in 2021 draft. US born players overwhelmingly want to go Division 1 route though.

Unless given a spot with USNTDP, I think the OHL education package is the more secure route and a higher level of competition than USHL for the age 16-17 years and more TOI at 18 than most freshmen at the top US hockey programs. After four years in the OHL, another few years of playing while attending university.

Schaefer is gross. Absolutely gross. The only thing is, he plays in the SCTA/OMHA and not in the GTHL, which is head and shoulders the better league. Hats off to him for staying in his area and not bailing to the G, but I wonder if scouts will discount what he’s doing because he’s been playing somewhat lesser opposition.

William Moore is/was a top US prospect but he has committed to USDP Camp which means you can likely scratch him from OHL consideration unless something very drastic changes between now and the draft.

Was aware the dual eligible player was considering the USDP. There are still 3 US born rated among the top 8 according to elite prospects.

Gilmartin...

Another 10 minute misconduct for abuse of an official. Gonna have to learn to control that. Coupled with Cam's awful delay of game and we find ourselves with a 3v5 penalty kill.

Coulombe didn’t call the slash in the corner. He has to control his mouth, but it was a soft call.

Morton knew as soon as the puck left his stick it was headed to the stands.

Whoever loses this game should get the 1st overall pick because this is painful.

Gilmartin stayed in the locker room.

Makes me wonder if Butler told him not to come back out. He pulled the same crap earlier in the season when he nearly didn't come out for the 3rd.
