You got the timing all wrong. Even in the article it was mentioned that meldonium was placed to watchlist in January 2015 (a year before the ban came into effect). Which means WADA has been aware of it for a much longer time.

Even if that is the case, that only gives three extra months for the process. Where was the clinical study results. Where is the pardon time to make sure the athletes can be cleared of this? This is nothing but very shady.

Finnish hockey reporter J-P Mikola wrote a column (in Finnish, obviously) where he tells about his chat with a former Finnish KHL player.

That player told Mikola that they used meldonium in a regular basis and it surely helped: they could play 60-70 seconds full-speed shifts instead of the normal 30-40 seconds.

I don't think anyone really knows how long meldonium stays or can be detected in a persons body after last use since it doesn't appear there was an actual study by WADA or by anybody else. Since we know that at least of Apr 1, 2015 the drug was completely legal and by Aug 1 WADA knew they would make it illegal for Jan 1 2016, that means they did not really have enough time to conduct clinical study on this. Who know, people may be testing positive in a year from now.
You are still missing the mark. For WADA to place the substance to the watchlist in January 2015 (and noted that it would be banned on 1 Jan 2016) meant that they had prior to January 2015 information of it.

Wow, I wish team Russia took meldonium when it was legal at the Olympics, they sure did not skate 60-70 seconds full speed.

In cases like this I definitely blame the team doctors, young players should be able to trust that the vitamins or whatever they say it is to them are legit. I don't think anyone would actively take this thinking they would become a better hockey player.

Superstars and individual athletes like Sharapova are just simply too stupid for their own good though.

Some former Swedish KHLers said team doctors were advicing them to take meldonium(they didn't accept it), I just hope they have been wise enough to stop distributing it now that it is banned.

Where is the clinical study by WADA or third party and how long does it take for it leave the body to be undetected?

Pardon time? The warning was issued in January 2015. So they had a full year to make sure that they would be cleared of it. More than enough time.

One of the best out there. Several hockey journalist of the year awards and I don't think he's ever written a bad article in Jääkiekkolehti.

Whole MHL took this drug after Cherepanov's tragedy as a medical treatment for heart. And now WADA banned it and suddenly all of them are dirty cheaters and doping takers in the eyes of the world. "Well, they are Russians, what did you expect?". Makes me sick.

Meldonium leaves the body relatively quickly through the kidneys, where it is secreted into urine mainly as such. Depending on the dose and period of use, the levels of meldonium in blood plasma are halved every 6–14 hours (9). In practice, meldonium will show up in doping tests for 2–4 days after the athlete stops taking it.

And you can see from the references that meldonium has been researched for quite a while.

I already have seen claims that some athletes tested positive 7 months after last time taking it. I am not blaming WADA for banning it, who cares, I blame WADA that it did it in a very shady way to throw many many Eastern European athletes under the bus.

Warning in Jan 2015? Link to that? It was legal as of Apr 1, 2015 in the document you provided.
It was still legal at that time but it had already been listed as a substance that would be in WADA monitoring list (aka list substances that will be banned)

I believe it came from manufacturer and it wasn't independently verified. There was already a proof that 2-4 days is a complete misrepresentation.
Then show that proof. To be frank, your opinion without any supporting evidence is worthless.

I am laughing at 2-4 days statement because all it means is that all Russian athletes are idiots and when Sharapova was tested for it they continued loading up on it including Russian U-18 team until pretty much the last day.

This is crazy, but I can definitely see why it would be banned. That's a pretty serious performance enhancer if you can skate hard for twice as long as before before getting winded. Team doctors and coaches all need to be fired(if they haven't been already). That is their job, especially the doctors. The entire teams isn't taking this stuff unless the team doctors are okay with it and advising them to take it.

Manufacturer says half life is 3 to 6 hours, which they explained may mean that after 2-4 days it is gone from the body

http://www.rlsnet.ru/tn_index_id_822.htm

Now apparently a french company hired by Russians can confirm for sure that it is detected at least after 120 days after last use, so this statement by manufacturer is highly misrepresented.

On the bright side, we might see Svechnikov in the tourney.

Highly unlikely. If all this would happen at least month before Championship then maybe but now there's no time for it. And there's still no official information about this whole situation. Mutko as always said it has nothing to do with him, it's all THEIRS responsibility. And Tretyak played a fool wondering why everyone's so interested about Junior NT. Roster will be announced tomorrow, he said. Just a circus.

I think KHL is gonna be done after this scandal, can you imagine their players skating hard 50% less time as hard as they could before that. That explains it all (sarcasm)

If the U17 team goes in the U18 team's place, then we certainly might see Svechnikov.
