Manoah might win the Rookie of the Year. There are some very good rookies kicking around, sure, but none of them are very dominant (although that Tristan kid would look better if it weren't for his ERA). Manoah continues to kick butt in the playoffs-hopefully-and he should nail it.
Manoah with a full season and ~180 IP would definitely be the frontrunner, but missing 2 months will probably be too much to overcome.
thanks tips. clearly its a bit of hyperbole, but always nice to have guys like u around to set everyone straight.^ if you genuinely pick 1 stop talking about the Jays you're not a fan.
the actual biggest mistake was going into the season with only one reliable SP.
but, to their credit and praise, they finally did add a second one....albeit just in the nick of time.
The funny thing with everyone stating that our rotation only had 1 reliable starting pitcher to start the season is that our rotation was far from the issue all year. Even without Berrios the rotation was above average from start until now.
Matz, Ray and Ryu were not the issue when we started the season. They gave us what we needed. Stripling also was effective this season. But it was when we added Berrios and Manoah that the staff became the best in the AL.
Our issues at the beginning of the season was more to do with bullpen and coaching than anything else. This is why its a 162 game season, its not a sprint its a marathon and it seems like Shatkins played the field well and made some key acquisitions at the right time.
Dont underestimate the recent acquisitions of players like Lamb, Dyson and promotions of Valera and Smith. Our bench has become solid and Montoya has it down on how to use them.
I give lots of credit to the pitching coach, Pete Walker. i dont think we have the best pitching staff in the AL, but probably one of the best pitching coaches. It certainly is one of the top 10 but not THE best.Robbie Ray: The lefty struggled badly with wildness, walking a batter every other inning in the two years since his all-star season in 2017, and had 31 walks in 31 innings in 2020 when the Jays traded for him. Under Walker, Ray cut down the walks by one-third, then walked just one in his three-inning post-season stint, and five in 13 2/3 innings this spring. (Opinion | Some people call Blue Jays coach Pete Walker ‘the pitcher whisperer.’ Here’s why)
Uh this is bad
Uh this is bad
Years of Brandon Morrow oblique/ab injuries have scarred me. Assuming you guys are right.
Just got my playoff tix hopefully I can use them!
I despise most of Simmons writing (because he comes across as a know-it-all), but I fully agree with this. Buck not being live when Pat is sends a message. On top of that, his eyesight is clearly deteriorating and he is too headstrong to address this.
Personally, I hate the PBP-Color Man approach where one guy is a token add. I would love to see us try to find the next Dan by allowing a younger journalist with some PBP experience work with Dan when Pat is not available and letting that person work with Pat when Dan is not available. I think Pat has grown enough as a color guy that I am okay with him continuing in that role, but Buck is not effective as either a PBP or color guy (because he goes off on tangents and even Dan can't do his job once Buck starts).
Buck is about to turn 73 years old. It's time to turn the page, and if he's going to rush that decision with his personal beliefs all the better.
Shulman and the excellent Siddall would be an outstanding pairing to move forward with.
