lol one ignorant statement after another. He is not qualified? the cap juggling this guy is doing is beyond any GM in the NHL. change half the roster with no cap space mid-season? yup. All GMs do that cause its just so easy. Not to mention draft well. Burke and Hunter draft 6'5" goons with no chance of making it to the NHL. Menawhile Dubas has Knies, Woll, Robertson, Niemela, Dennis Hildeby, Roni Hirvonen, Dmitry Ovchinnikov, Ryan Tverberg, Ty Voit, Minten etc etc.

Stress is real. Most of us have to endure it because we need the paycheck making peanuts. Dubas cannot cheat like a CEO and brush of accountability to others and fire them and remain faceless and nameless. He is on an island alone with one of if not the biggest hockey fanbase crying "FIRE HIM" at every turn. So please take what you think you know about a stressful job and write it down and throw away the paper. You are beyond clueless. Clearly never having to RUN a full organization.

lol the money. compensation. that makes it all ok. IGNORANCE IS BLISS
I’m sorry, did Dubas not understand what he’s signing up for?

Pridhams fine for a stopgap while they look for a GM, he’s the one that would have been negotiating the relevant contracts if Dubas stayed anyway. He doesn’t have to make any sweeping changes, just deal with Matthews and Nylander while they find a new guy.

Having an "interim" while a proper search is conducted, probably prevents you from getting the AM34 contract done before July 1st.

If I'm Matthews, I'm not signing until I know completely who the new guy is and what the plan is moving forward.

My thoughts exactly. If Dubas can't handle the stress of an amazing career like being an NHL GM then it's not for him. Tons of blue collar folks in Canada are living paycheck to paycheck barely making ends meet to feed their families but poor Dubas can't handle the stress of his 7 figure office job? There's just so many p***yes in this organization who just have to go. Dubas' personality is literally a perfect representation of the team in its current state.
I think it's a bit harsh to call him a p***y for looking out for his family's well-being. If they're having a hard time with all the public scrutiny and criticism, that sucks and it's okay to consult them.

The fact that Dubas has now turned this into a very public issue that's apparently blindsided the players and staff is what really gets me though. That's a rat move

It's almost like very few have actually had the experience of taking on a stressful occupation or life situation. I don't even think I was exposed to anything particular stressful relative to many other occupations but when I found myself in an occupation too stressful for my disposition I moved on from it.

The family stuff is unfortunate if true. But you are right, airing it out without warning is pure BS

Then if a good deal is out there you trade 34……..

There’s no doubt that not knowing if you’re going to be employed after July 1 is stressful. But as far as pressure of the job goes, he’s been offered an extension without ever having to win anything.

I’m convinced people didn’t listen to the actual presser. No where did Dubas say the job itself is causing him stress. He said his family divulged information to him that has made him want to possibly step away. It has nothing to do with the job itself.

Whenever they threw a question at him in regards to doing something with the team he answered it as if he was going to be there to make that move or be open to that move. He spoke in present or future tense. Which should indicate outside of family maybe putting pressure to step away, he’s pretty committed to seeing this through and wants to continue working.
That's how I read it. His word roughly speaking "My family is very important in these decisions and finding out in the past few days the stresses my family has been through..."

So he’s not exceptional at building a hockey team at the GM level?!

The roles are pretty different. And you’re the one shitting on him the last 3 or 4 days. I think Dubas is a great executive and is capable of doing more than just building an on ice hockey product for an organization. If you want to maximize a Dubas type executive I think the president role is perfect. He’s innovative, cares about people, understands the importance of equity/diversity and reaching out to marginalized communities. That’s the type of guy I want at the top. He may not have gotten it right in Toronto but he is a good person and is a good leader by all accounts. He’s not even 40 and has made better decisions than some of the fossils still in the game.

I agree with almost everything you said. I think all four are great players but together, they just won't work.

I don't think JT is a declining asset though. Bc nomatter where he goes, he will be on the PP, and teams will trade him to put on their PP to max his value.
He still got star credentials and the buzz factor around him.

Ideally, I would trade JT to Vancouver for JT Miller.

TJ to Oilers for picks

Sign Orlov

Resign, Acciari, ROR, Kampf and Schenn

Will hold on to MM, as need him to be on a line to create offence for ROR and Knies.
How many first round picks are you willing to send along with Tavares to Vancouver in order to get JT?

Lol no one wants that Tavares contract without a sweetener. And Tavares won’t waive his no move clause anyways.

Tavares isn't going anywhere. If we do trade John it will be for a terrible contract in return
We have him for another 2 years, lets accept it and move on

It's not like he can't produce at all, he can still get us 80 points

Did you see his reactions in the pressbox during the playoffs? Did that seem like a stress free individual?

Negative emotions arising from a pressure cooker job is an all too familiar condition as a professional in 2023. The strains on relationships, family, time demands are all real and I think broadly everyone can sympathize.

I think an individual in that spot just has to make decisions that match those realities and walk away if the price is too high. If it’s not and you’re going to keep going, you can’t let the private stuff bleed into the professional stuff.

You just can’t really do the tightrope walk of being crushed by the job, still want the job, and have all this fan adulation roll out the red carpet and beg you to come back. Those variables can’t all exist.

Ridiculous, he's a point per game player.

Couldn’t agree more. Too many fans around here are either equally privileged or blind to what’s happening before our eyes.

I WISH I had the option of just walking away from a 4M a year job with access to a private jet, after failing at my stated goal for five years straight. What a world.

give me a break with this nonsense. you cant handle criticism of your opinions on this message board. Imagine your job performance being a 24/7 topic amongst millions of people daily and you have no way of shielding your family from it. Hundreds of thousands of people telling you "YOU SUCK" "QUIT" "FIRE HIM" you can think you are ready for it. But clearly no on is. Burke, Nonis, Fletcher, Lou etc etc .... all pissy at the media on the way out.

For 11M per year for three more years at the wrong side of 30 while slowing down and in all likelihood not being able to play C anymore? Your living in dream land if you think the leafs are getting a haul for that.
