@dirty12 made a good point in this regard. It was easier for him to get guys chasing him when he was younger but as he became more f a veteran, it was much more difficult to get younger guys to chase him as the older guy. It was more difficult to draw penalties. He still managed to do it but not nearly to the degree he did when he was a 17 year old rookie.

If you were to look at Brad Marchand now vs his first five years in the NHL, he is a much different player. There are still elements of his game that draw penalties but he isn’t nearly the rat he was when he was younger. I think a lot of that cameos with age and experience. The ability to pick your spots more strategically helps. You cannot be a 35 year old veteran out there being an idiot. It is much more effective when you are 22 years old and doing it to the veterans.

Agreed, but when you are signed because of a skill and way of playing, it really makes no sense to stop or slow down. Again, I am not saying that he did not have other reasons but you have to admit that when you have a sore body part, you tend to unintentionally favour it.

All I am saying is that this could be part of why he was not the same player.

So, as to our earlier discussion about CHL vs NCAA? Of the 24 players who played for Team Canada at the 4 Nations, 21 of them were CHL alumni. That's a pretty clear sign - if your goal is to take a run at a pro career, you're playing CHL, period. Let's see how this plays out, but I expect a lot of OHL rosters to look pretty different come training camp as a result of this recent change.

Humphries is just not a OHL calibre starter at this time. Six goals on 21 shots, 3 goals on the first 4 shots …at least the IceDogs have been coached to make a concerted effort to limit shots of late.
For most of the season, Assadourian & Paris were the difference between ~0.700 and ~0.550 for Niagara. Remove the #1 & #2 goalies and Roobroek in addition to those two, an ugly slide was inevitable for a team that most thought was not quite as good as their record suggested.
For the time being, Niagara is still 5th in conference. With all the skaters now returned, 7/13 ROS and a very surprising finish as a middling 5-6 in conference and 9 -11 over all is still possible.

I think the NCAA was there as an offer to Mews. However, to the 67's, he was able to use it as a threat. We all know he wanted out.

The sad part is Sudbury, if they are selling, will get back more than they paid if he stays healthy.


As to Niagara Flores is out untul the end of March that is bad news to whoever they play in the first round. He has stolen games and gives the layers confidence.

The math for the 67's to make the playoffs is pretty daunting right now. All North Bay has to do is go 5-8 down the stretch, and it would force us to go 7-4. We have four games left against Peterborough and North Bay, but even if you sweep those you have to find three other wins in those other 7. Good luck. Basically Friday night is an elimination game for Ottawa - lose that one and they are just playing out the string for the final ten games. They need a regulation win to even start registering a faint pulse.

The math for the 67's to make the playoffs is pretty daunting right now. All North Bay has to do is go 5-8 down the stretch, and it would force us to go 7-4. Ottawa likely is not strong enough overall regardless.

It is starting to look like Murata and Delisle are separating themselves from the pack for this year’s draft. That means likely a top 2 followed by a group fo 5-10 players that are all in the same boat. Things can change as they always do but based on what I am reading, that is starting to become the situation.

The OHL Priority Selection has a draft lottery. That lottery is weighted:
20th place - 40%
19th place - 30%
18th place - 20%
17th place - 10%

In a best case scenario, Ottawa manages to be lucky enough to nail down one of the first two picks, otherwise, it probably doesn’t make much of a difference whether they make the playoffs or not. So, even if they miss the playoffs, they still likely need to be fortunate in the draft lottery.

Murata has size and is R shot, which we could use. Has anyone heard of anybody wanting exceptional this year.
