Kyle has turned this organization into an absolute mess. I honestly cannot believe how he managed it in such a short space of time

Disagree, the on ice product may not be as good as we hoped post rebuild. However the organization itself has never been in better condition. You have well run departments across the board. Decent prospect pool still. The Marlies have made multiple deep runs and even won a Calder cup in his time as GM. Our scouting department has been revamped, we have some of the best facilities. The relationship between the alumni and organization has never been better. Safe space for people to work in, positive work environment and not a lot of toxicity flowing through. Money is still pouring in. Not sure you can ask for better in terms of an overall job. If you look beyond just on ice product.

That is why no matter the direction things will be fine. Someone else can step in and steer the ship right in terms of on ice or Kyle can adjust and pivot to a new strategy if he comes back.

What's taking him so long if his answer is what the Leafs are waiting for? He knew he did not have an extension to start the season, he knew how much a toll it took during the season and playoffs and he knows next year will most likely be worse. My guess he wants something the Leafs may not be wanting to give him. Money, full autonomy, keep his coach ??
Yep, sounds like he was probably asked to axe Keefe and is distraught and in shock....

Why would Matthews leave to play in a college rink for a team that is likely going to move in the next couple years?

“To rescue the franchise in his “hometown” “

I don’t know his motivations. He does like family.

He’s more motivated by family than Stanley cups IMO.

He may have signed a 5 year deal to be able to go back home earlier.

Time will tell.

I wish the 5 year term would stop being used as a justification for his leaving. He wanted 8 years at a higher cap hit. The team gave him 5 to reduce it. He can’t save Arizona. No one can at this point.

The source of that quote is not exactly what wikipedia has as a citation. Wikipedia cites the Hockey news and there what is supposedly quoted is slightly different: "disappointments" { Todd Reynolds}—clients defecting to other agents—and recruited by the Greyhounds, Dubas changed careers at 25 to become one of the youngest GMs in OHL history." it does indeed mention clints going to other agents, but it leaves out SSM recruiting him.

oops: This is the source the Wikipedia article used as the source
Yeah I still get the feeling of what I said to be true though. It's a pretty normal thing these days and he seems like someone who wants to make everyone happy even if it doesn't really benefit him. Being a GM or coach can't be easy when it comes to making those decisions you know won't make someone happy but sometimes it has to be done.

When you ask stupid AAV for 8 years, that basically means you only want 5 years.

Sorry
Yes and no. The max term contract actually would've been a better deal for the Leafs IMO. Unfortunately, it just wasn't one they could've feasibly signed due to the cap space needed and wanting to keep as much of the team together as possible.

Feels like it's about time Bob McKenzie shows he's still the king even though he's retired and drops a tweet about what's going on.

With the way things are going I kind of want to hear that the Arizona Coyotes are relocating to Toronto and the Toronto Maple Leafs are just going to fold as an organization. Just start the thing over.

That was a really disturbing trend how Kyle goes out of his way to acquire former SOO players….like wtf…just like his onsession with dealing with the same 3 GM’s…Kyle really doesn’t make it easy on himself. good riddance dubas, you sucked
So which Soo players were terrible exactly outside of Murray? Murray I will concede was a ridiculous trade from day one. The lack of cap relief made it even worse.

I'll admit that the current uncertainty has me a little uneasy. But yeah the 110+ point team that has all their star players wanting to stay is not an absolute mess.
If the goal is to win the President’s cup the Leafs are a success, if it’s to win the Stanley Cup……not so much……..

Yes but the leafs are not a mess. How can people who have been long time fans and have been through the JFJ, Fletcher 3.0, Burke, Nonis eta honestly with a straight face say that this organization is in a mess. It’s honestly stupid and a lot of hyperbole. The organization is in the best state it’s been in decades.

That is mainly due to Matthews who's contract is up next summer. The window is almost completely closed with 1 series win to show for it. The previous regimes you mentioned did not get handed anything close to what Dubas inherited.

Prior to Dubas, the management stripped it down and acquired assets with an eye to the future, they led of the inning with a single. Dubas started on 1st base as a pinch runner, 5 years later the team is still stuck on first base. He hasn't been caught stealing yet but he sure as hell hasn't advanced.

Who keeps fouling it off to keep extending this inning

I just don't understand this narrative. It's simply not true despite all the bravado on this thread.
I would like to hear more about O Reilly not liking his experience here. It’s quite possible that Dubas has created an environment not suitable for a successful professional sports team.

"This organization is incredible. You see the players that they have, but the people in the organization in the organization — every facet is looked after with the strength, the nutrition, and everything. The staff is the best at what they do. It is such an amazing place.

I am so thankful I was brought into it. I am sorry we didn’t get the result that we wanted. To be a part of this organization was an amazing thing. I have some decisions to make going forward, though."
