Post-Game Talk: End of Season Discussion

I do think that Del Zotto has trade value.
Until now, I have been a staunch defender of keeping him and seeing how he develops.
Being a person who does not make knee-jerk conclusions, but is open minded and can see the big picture, I would be interested in seeing MDZ as a possible trade, it would make sense if the trade was right. Same old thing, if the trade is right.

I think we can all agree on Del Zotto, the talk of upside needs to end. He's trash as long as Torts is coaching this kid. Dumbest decision maker on our back end, just awful, Torts' biggest failure is not developing this kid.

I'm worried about Kreider as well. Torts needs to develop this guys and I don't trust him to be quite honest. He rides this guys way too hard, some of them can take it, others can't.

How many jaw dropping saves did Hank make to keep them in the game?
How many tough shots did Rask face?
And from last post season to this one, what has really changed? goal scoring was the issue, remains the issue.
Offense needs to be seriously addressed this offseason, either the system or the players.

I like a good chunk of the forwards, fill in around Kreids, Step, Nash, Hags, Brass, Cally, Boyle and hopefully Zucc.

Staal, G, McDonagh, Stralman, Moore is more than solid, just find the 6th whether its McIlrath or someone else.

Move DZ if we can get something of worth which I would guess we could. Lets hope Kreider/Miller etc are ready to make a big leap.

Delzotto has worn out his welcome here, he was garbage today

The team is still young. They were beat by a better team, better coach and Torey Krug lol.

Acceptance. 90 years of mediocrity with a few splashes of brilliance.

I'm convinced the "I feel bad for Henrik" crowd is under 14 yrs old.

Boston was not one of his better series. In fact I think it was his worst since the Buffalo series. He was respnsible for Torey Krug becoming John Druce.

These athletes are grown men with millions of dollars and summer vacation plans. When they're sunning on a yacht off the French Riviera in a few weeks, do people really think they're dwelling on fans and hockey?

In fact, most veterans only dread the two or three days after elimination because of the packing and moving and media requirements. After that, they're floating.

For every Ray Bourque with a year-long burning desire there are 1000s of Ziggy Pallfys who want to go to Spain and get fat

Top 4 and top 8 in the last two seasons. Not cup final, but at least they were competitive. Kershaw, feel free to become a fan of a tanking team (hint: it only works if you get a Crosby on your team)

Watching Kreider these last 2 games makes me wonder what could have been this year

I think he had to go through the struggles this season to figure things out...and I think we finally got a taste of what he can bring, it's going to fun to see him grow even more on a line with nash and brassard...i'm stoked for that

the players that haven't been in the playoffs before are going to take a lot out of it...and I really think with a full training camp and a real season that we will finally see a more offensive team, the inconsistencies of the offense I think are over now...next season will be special!

It is what it is. It's a team game and I think he needs to take some of the blame. His rebound control trapped us in the zone so often when he could have just eaten up the puck if he could get it under the control. But it is what it is. I don't think he will get any better at this point, so the team needs to adapt around him instead of the other way around.

Ya for sure. Unfortunately Torts loves the 5 goalie passive system. If we pressured the puck more we wouldn't get trapped in our zone as often, and teams wouldn't have as many opportunities to just T off.

It worked last year but I think it just really wore out and abused the players. You see people with an aggressive pick pressuring D and they do not get locked in their zone the way we constantly do. It's like 5 on 5 PP for the other team.

I really think Torts needs to go and we need to make a few moves. We have a lot of talent and can go far with just a few adjustments imo.

I think Moore makes him expendable at this point.

This pretty much. Till next time, basically

the D depth is fine.

what team is going to have good options when two guys go down?

and torts played hamrlik over bickel and gilroy, so that was his choice.

My jaw just dropped.

Are you seriously saying he should've played ****ing BICKEL tonight?

Are you seriously saying he should've played GILROY in Boston where Lucic would rip his head off and crap down his neck?

Look, Torts made a choice, but he made the same one I would have. Hamr should have been the least bad of three bad choices.

The Bruins outclassed us in every way for the duration of the series. Good for them, exploiting a flawed Rangers system and team.

It's surprising given that the team was supposed to go deeper this year, but instead took a giant step back, in my opinion. It was an inconsistent season, and the team never really found their way.

It's a big offseason for the team. We know Richards is gone. I'd also try to trade a defenseman for someone who can put the puck in the net. If Torts goes, they need to find a coach who has an offensive system and is willing to open it up more. We have the goaltending for it, why can't we be a better transition team?

Stralman and Eminger are fine. Eminger's a 6th D, nothing more, but solid as a 6th D. I think a coaching change will help Girardi. He's a much better defenseman than many here think. He doesn't need to be throwing himself in front of every shot. McDonagh hopefully continues to improve. Moore is going to get better. If McIlrath is ready, Staal may be expendable, as might MDZ.

I know Bickel is hated, but as a extra, that's still not a terrible D corps, especially if a Skinner and another 3rd line forward or a 2nd or 3rd pick came with it.

Yes. Exactly what I highlighted. I just wrote about this in my last post. It would help Hank as well since like Jonathon mentioned rebounds have been a problem for him. 5 column system has to go. Pressure the puck and force turnovers.

i dont care what anyone says McILrath should have played over Hamrlik.. heck Bruins had 3 rookies in their lineup on defense.. this shows the trust NYR has in their younger players.. Hamrlik has not been good since he left the Islanders.. McIlrath could have handled some of the bigger Bruins forwards. maybe it would have made a little difference.

While I think Del Zotto still has quite a bit of untapped potential and won't always be such a disaster he was just miserable and I would consider moving him for a young forward of the same caliber. Our defense isn't an issue when healthy and his negatives far outweighed his positives this season.

Richards needs to go. I would like to see them re-sign Clowe for a reasonable price (if not, he can go). Trade one of Girardi or MDZ (preferably Girardi since he's a UFA after next year). Re-tool the 4th line.

Not giradi. Most definitely mdz..played with head up his butt most of the time and he is not really that good. Most likely a flash in the pan. Get something for him while he still has value

I don't feel like Del Zoto deserves another chance. Dumb like that is just not fixable imo.

But the Kreider part. No. Torts doesn't need to develop him. Torts needs to go bye bye and a coach who understands offense and modern hockey systems needs to develop Kreider.

When you say "flash in the pan," MDZ foots that bill.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind shipping both of them out of here.

No.

McIlrath needs to get a hard look next season. But I think its unbelievably unfair to throw a kid, who hasn't played a single NHL game, to the wolves. Especially a Dman.

Too inconsistent, overall he was terrible when we needed him to step up

I highly doubt that anybody other than Marc Staal has a clue about whether Marc Staal wants to join his brothers in Raleigh.

I would agree, however, hearing the talk down here, the fans really want Marc Staal in Raleigh. Rutherford is 10 times as dumb as Sather. I think it would be well worth it to at least dangle M. Staal out there and see what Rutherford might toss the Rangers way.

The Hurricanes are nowhere near competing in the short term due to realignment and the fact the team is poorly constructed with a few decent pieces. The potential gimmick of 4 Staals in the lineup assures some marketing potential even if the team is flat out awful.

If Sather could poach a Skinner and maybe a Zac Dalpe, or a high pick, it might be worth it.
