Post-Game Talk: End of Season Discussion

Unfortunately, Tortorella probably isn't going anywhere because of the last two seasons' results. Problem is, this team has been hindered by the "system" in the playoffs.

Richards has to be bought out.

As nuts as it sounds, I might make the deal Hurricanes fans want - M. Staal for Skinner.

Hah I didn't hear about this deal but Staal's not coming back for the play offs really smelled like him wanting to go to Carolina. I can see this trade happening now that you mentioned it.

We did OK without him until Stralman got hurt. We need a replacement for Delzaster though. Also, Girardi needs a good rest and to get back to form, if he still can.

Pathetic, weak end to the season. Our season is over because our depth was Roman Hamrlik. Our season is over because we do not play a system that maximizes the talent we have, we force the talent we have to be dumbed down to play a peewee system. We have the world's best goalie and provide him with zero support.

Definitely agree with this view point. Although there is so much more wrong.

I like a good chunk of the forwards, fill in around Kreids, Step, Nash, Hags, Brass, Cally, Boyle and hopefully Zucc.

Staal, G, McDonagh, Stralman, Moore is more than solid, just find the 6th whether its McIlrath or someone else.

Move DZ if we can get something of worth which I would guess we could. Lets hope Kreider/Miller etc are ready to make a big leap.

With the cap going down next year and even assuming the Richards buy out, is this team even going to have the cap space to make any serious moves? A lot of key players for us are due raises - that may wash out whatever we gain in the Richards buyout immediately.

Just don't see a lot of flexibility for this team right now. Our valuable depth players are all gone, no one is going to trade anything of value for anyone on our 3rd and 4th lines and these playoffs have made evident (to me at least) that trading Staal (provided he's healthy and can play next season) is probably not the right move. McD isn't getting traded and I don't think Girardi is either. MDZ might have some value but not much.

I think Slats is going to have to dip into the mid-level forward market this off-season and try to replace some of the dead weight on our 3rd and 4th lines with some guys who have some actual skills. I don't even really care who those guys are, almost any decent NHL'er would be an improvement at this point.

Trade Del Zotto, Boyle and JT Miller for Dustin Byfuglien. We need Dustin Byfuglien in the worst possible way

I'd keep JT and give him someone else if possible, but Big Byf would be a nice addition.

he has to be the softest so called power forward in the league

I loved how Zuc showed Nash how to play hockey in offseason. Soft small Euro player with LESS time then big time superstar Nash and still wound up with more points. Good for Zuc...bad for big time superstar Nash!

Well been saying this since 2006: We need one or 2 bigger, more physical wingers, and Dmen. I thought Clowe was going to help us but he never even got to play much. I love our defensive corp but we still don't have a guy that punishes opposing forwards in our zone.

You can only go so far in the playoffs as we are constructed, even with guys like McD and Hank.

I just cannot stand Michael Del Zotto. What a waste of talent. Lazy physically and extremely weak mentally. An all around liability of AHL quality.

I highly doubt that anybody other than Marc Staal has a clue about whether Marc Staal wants to join his brothers in Raleigh.

the D depth is fine.

what team is going to have good options when two guys go down?

and torts played hamrlik over bickel and gilroy, so that was his choice.

I think that things are really looking up for NYR.
There are some very interesting prospects that will be making an appearance.

I want to see a faster team. It will come. These transition seasons are a bit tough, but come on, the head brass cannot let this go on too long. They have to get going on no longer priding themselves on blocking shots and collapsing down low. Renney called it '5 In The Picture', and that was the pride. I don't want that any more, it is boring. I want to see players pressuring the opposition and creating 2 on 1 oppportunities.
I want to see the Rangers return to being a team that threatens with speed and attacks at all times.

There is no way that Torts will be able to work with the types of forwards that are coming up through our system.

As much as I like disagreeing with you, I have to agree with your posts in the GDT that Hank is not the same Hank from last year. People are really emoing out with what you are saying. He is still great, but not exactly what he was last year. I feel like he definitely isn't getting as much help this year as he was last, which might be the main factor.

Well, certain posters here have an all-or-nothing take with what I and others say. If I say that Hank had a bad game, I am instantly a hater and blaming World War II on him. Much like today's politics, there is apparently no room for a moderate voice who is neither a lover nor a hater. It's annoying and unfortunate. There is no in between with some people. Hank is either untouchable or he's bashed mercilessly (though the bashing is far less frequent than the over-the-top praising).

I do agree with the second part of this paragraph, too. I don't feel like he got as much help this year. We had a **** bottom 6 for much of the season. I think he got that help after the trade deadline, but he was left out to dry quite often before it. My main complaint with his play this year was even after he was helped he still let in bad goals more than he did last year and other years.

It is what it is. It's a team game and I think he needs to take some of the blame. His rebound control trapped us in the zone so often when he could have just eaten up the puck if he could get it under the control. But it is what it is. I don't think he will get any better at this point, so the team needs to adapt around him instead of the other way around.

Watching Kreider these last 2 games makes me wonder what could have been this year

Stralman and Eminger are fine. Eminger's a 6th D, nothing more, but solid as a 6th D. I think a coaching change will help Girardi. He's a much better defenseman than many here think. He doesn't need to be throwing himself in front of every shot. McDonagh hopefully continues to improve. Moore is going to get better. If McIlrath is ready, Staal may be expendable, as might MDZ.

I know Bickel is hated, but as a extra, that's still not a terrible D corps, especially if a Skinner and another 3rd line forward or a 2nd or 3rd pick came with it.

Agreed. I'm learning to be very skeptical whenever anyone says "prospect Y" is going to break onto the roster at make an impact. That's not going to be an easy thing to do with Tortorella coaching this team.
