he would ask for a trade in the first 30 minutes of torts training camp hahaha, he is a player that does not come to camp in shape from what I have heard...and torts is not going anywhere, ask any Ranger reporter and his job is safe.

Doesn't matter. He would do absolute wonders for the PP and he would give us the offensive defenseman and heavy shot that we need.

Del Zotto is 23 years old.

He's better defensively than Leetch was at that age.

Torts doesn't promote risk-taking, creativity and attacking.

I'd fire Torts before I dump MDZ.

Still a young group. I don't see too many changes necessary. They win if they keep Staal or trade him.

If torts is here next year, expect another painful end to the year. His system is awful.

I bet the bruins will take Roman Hamilrik out to dinner tonight. That was a giftwrapped 2nd goal by him which ended our season

While true, it's always hard to know if UDFA college players like Krug will pan out. So there is quite a bit of luck involved with that signing.

There is luck with every player drafted and free agent signed, but that wasn't the point of the question I was answering. The poster said that if a team lost two defensemen they would not be able to recover. Clearly, the Bruins were.

Oh, I know. But I was saying that they were able to do that more out of luck than anything else.

Of course, McIlrath may have played poorly if he was brought up.
Although the assertion was that he would have been better than MDZ and Hamrlik, it is impossible to say.

I learn as I go. I am looking forward to seeing McIlrath in a NYR jersey (have seen him out here in the WHL).
Michael Del Zotto does not seem to be progressing.

sorry but that was more luck than anything...nobody knows how players will respond in an NHL game especially in the playoffs. They were lucky those players played well.

I merely pointed out that a team can recover from two defensemen going down if there is sufficient depth. The Bruins have that and the Rangers don't.

I was hoping the Lundqvist that showed up in Games 6 and 7 of the Washington Series would show up. It was not meant to be. I still don't think Lundqvist has showed well in playoffs for the most part. He makes great saves but lets in goals that he shouldn't . He is still one of the better goalies. The team overall was outplayed by Boston.

Pyatt(tough on boards), Brassard(playmaker), McDonough(the BEST), Girardi (warrior), Kreider(Boston Series), Boyle (face offs, toughness) and Hagelin (speed, making plays) impressed me in these playoffs.

We need to fix the Power play. Bad coaching, we have talent but poor setups and breakouts. Why is it that we don't take one-timer shots. How many times did a D man get the pick at the point wait, them shoot when a defender is in front of them, puck turned over.

I would have liked to see Richards in this game, we needed offense. Not that he did much in the PO's but maybe a benching inspires him.

Guess we'll have to see how Krug and Bartkowski do vs. the Pens. It's not like this deadbeat Rangers offense tested them or anything.

What I would do.

1) Re-sign our RFA's.
-McDonagh
-Hagelin
-Stepan
-Zuccarello

2)Let UFA's walk.
-Clowe
-Hamrlik
-Eminger
-Gilroy

3)Amnesty Buyout.
-Richards

4)Stay away from everything in this Free Agent Market

That would leave us with...

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Zuccarello - Brassard - Callahan
Kreider - Boyle - Dorsett
Pyatt - Powe - Asham

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
Del Zotto - Moore

Henrik
Biron

Then let the young guys in our organization push some of the fringe older guys out of the lineup in training camp. (JT Miller, Lindberg, etc)

Every season or two a guy appears in the playoffs out of nowhere. Some go on to very good careers while others turn out to be nothing. John Druce was a great example of the latter.

What is scary about Krug is that he has a few different skills. He has an outstanding shot, but more importantly he has a great first step and excellent instincts. When he came from behind his own net and sped off untouched by a couple of Rangers I was pretty impressed.

Del Zotto value is still relatively high. imo. There will be other GM's that see his age and upside.
If I'm Sather, I'd look to capitalize on that. Don't wait another year or two when 'he is what he is'.

He's a well rounded player, I laughed when someone in the GDT called him a garbage AHLer or something along those lines, he had 45 pts in 63 games in the AHL this year, his first year of pro hockey. He's 22 years old, it's not like we're talking about some guy that was a middle of the road AHLer for 5 years.

The rangers need a Barry Beck type,
Beat the crap out of lucic or Thornton and smashed anybody in front
Would be perfect in this system because he would never shoot even though he had a rocket
