This season definitely had it's bright spots. Stepan took huge steps forward, Brassard was phenomenal, Zucc was impressive, Stralman was solid, Moore was great, Nash, at least to me, had a great season, on pace for his best season quite easily, and of course, Hank was Hank. Girardi and McDonagh had off years for sure, but even then they were pretty great.
Hagelin, Callahan, Zucc, Boyle, Powe, Del Zotto, Eminger, and Asham were all meh, no real opinion one way or the other.
Miller and Kreider both had flashes of what they can be, but aren't quite there. I'd keep Miller in the A and stick Kreider with Brass and Nash personally.
Richards was terribad, despite being our #3 scorer. My heart says buy him out, but my head says one more year. Who knows.
As for Torts, he needs to be replaced with a more offensively minded coach. He's a great coach, but fir teams with little to no skill, not the current incarnation of the Rangers.
All in all, I think this season wasn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be. Compared to last year, sure it was, but that was an entirely different team, and this was only a half season. I believe we were on the uptick when the season ended, but the Clowe, Staal, and Boyle injuries threw the team off. Some moves definitely need to be made, but I think that next season should be a lot better.
We have an infusion of youth coming in to compete for spots next year, which is something we didn't really have this season. Between Fasth, Lindberg, McIlrath, Thomas, and maybe Hrivik, the current roster may be hard pressed to keep their spots. Hopefully it will light a fire under them throughout the season to stay on the ice in the NHL.
