They don't sound like there are no spots available they sound like they want the kids to push them to make hard decisions.

Remember when Dadonov, Hoffman and Drouin were taking up all the kids ice time? They were much worse than Anderson, Gallgher, Armia, and Dvo. I don't see it happnening. IMO Hughes will move Dvo, Armia, and Savard by the deadline (unless there are playoff implications) and there will be 3 spots open by TDL - and any injuries that happen between now and then will also open spots for young players. At least we don't have a surplus of vets to clog up those surplus spots.

It's not based on draft year, but when you signed your ELC and NHL game played. Guhle is still waiver exempted for 46 games irc.

I hope this kid is made strong between the ears. He will have Dvorak or Evans as center. Last 3 years proved these 2 centers didn't helped any kid to improve. How size an opportunity when Evans is making the plays?

If I had an advice to give to Heineman, it would be "kid, when you are about to shoot, aim as usual.... but shoot the other side". I swear, this guy is very good at targetting the goalie ;p

He has a good shot. In rookie games looked future bottom 6 to me. Around 15 goals. Beck was only forward who looked solid NHL material. Kidney might have slim chance. He was our third best forward. Mesar I can't see it. Small, looked weak, does nothing that stood out. Sven Andrighettoish.

Mesar was on a weaker line than Back, Heineman and Farrell. They were less dominant because they were awesker unit, but Mesar is the guy who created the most on his line. Kidney did okay, but Mesar showed more ability. Also Mesar didn't play AHL last year, so it would make sense that some areas of his game are less developed than his linemate Kidney who is older.

The things Kidney did better than Mesar were few and far between.

I thought Mesar was better a more noticeable than Kidney but still not impactful. Both will need some serious time in Laval before getting a whiff of nhl time. Farrell too. At present time, I don’t see any in the nhl but that could change.

Ok well that is a different point altogether. I don't disagree that he has a long road ahead and is no sure thing to make it, but in this weekend's games, specifically the 2nd one, he was more noticable (in a good way) than his linemates or any forward who wasn't on the first line. It's not about crowning him or anything, but just giving credit where credit is due.

Yup, you notice those small players they need to be very good at something, at least should be exceptional, to make impact in NHL. I noticed it years ago. They may make it as a tweener. But not good piece of team. Even then, you can only carry so much small in lineup. In playoffs they going to run them, knock they off game.

It's kind of great, really. Survival of the fittest: who really wants to be here? Who's going to work as hard as possible to stay?

With the amount of injuries we've had in the last couple of years, you were probably getting 10 games whether you earned it or not just out of attrition. I don't want guys getting too comfortable coasting just because they have 1 way contracts or were on the team last year.

I said during the GDT last night that the vets will get the benefit of the doubt, but the leash won't be long. HuGo are looking to compete now and if you can't keep up, your spot is not guaranteed.

I think the cost will be contingent on what the cap floor is going beyond this year and how many teams are trying to stay above it. Right now, I think the cost is far too prohibitive. We'll wait another year on Anderson and Gallagher. Armia and Dvorak are deadline sales if all goes well.
