Calling BS on this. Don't get me wrong, I'd love this for the drama aspect. But Russo is an idiot. He was also the one freaking out about Murray trying to fix the net and pretending he was sabotaging it and getting all riled up. If he can't get basic facts right that is clear as day on video for anyone to see, this is BS as well.

my absolute favorite thing about the trade boards

propose a bad, lowball proposal, get rejected, then say OKAY HE WILL LEAVE FOR FREE THEN!!1 as if there aren't 30 other teams in the NHL who could make an offer
Lowball?, looks like you’re out to lunch as well my friend

The problem is they should have started burning it down a couple years ago with Hughes, Petey, and Demko being the back bone. But ownership is so f***ing bad and Benning have zero back bone to stand up to them brought them to today. Canucks have about a solid decade of poor decisions. Now they are in this weird spot where you can see the future, but that future is in closer than it appears, but nothing else about the team is set up for a good future.
Should've Hired Gorton instead of Rutherford

The little bit of knowledge is probably nothing more than what we all already know, EP wants to be somewhere he can win, and right now and with the direction the team is headed, that’s not Vancouver.

I doubt it considering that Russo is a highly credible writer that surely has sources throughout the league. "A little bit of knowledge" seems to suggest he's heard something.

That being said, Russo doesn't seem to suggest it's anything close to a done deal so who knows how this will all unfold and I highly doubt anything comes of it anytime soon since EP is still under contract for another season and a half and RFA after that.

A BOLD move from management would be for the Canucks GM at the draft to offer up their 2023 1st round pick AND EP 40 to whoever holds the #1 overall pick. That team would likely ask for additional assets but could this be the Burke esque type of Draft day deal he did to get the Sedins that could turn the fortunes of the Canucks around...even if it depletes our team of EP, 1st rounder plus more??

I don't mind this as a Canucks fan if this finally forces the owner to accept a rebuild, which is already 9 years too late.

Let’s be honest, it’s probably not. There’s very few “insiders” with a scoop. Russo is not one of them.
Russo definitely is one of them, he has broken numerous trades both Wild and other teams over the years. He has also expanded his focus over the past two years and especially this year to be more national coverage, they brought in Joe Smith to cover the Wild while Russo widens his focus. Having said that, the things he puts in print tend to be far more reliable than his verbal content, his podcasts are a lot more speculative.

Russo definitely does have connections around the league and in Vancouver, so him having insider knowledge really isn’t absurd, he has a pretty good reputation and generally doesn’t throw out rumors that don’t have some kind of legs behind them.

Yah what the heck is going on? I mean are the media just trying to stir the pot for the deadline?

With all these rumors coming out lately. There has to be smoke where there’s fire.
or it is so quiet due to so many teams capped out that writers are speculating

No team is trading away the #1 overall pick in this draft for any package.

As good as EP is, he's also a lot more attractive to a contending team considering he'll only have two more seasons of definitive team control after this season than he would be to a bottom feeder in the midst of a rebuild.

About a decade ago it seemed like Canadian teams were all doomed to mediocrity because the pressure to make the playoffs in any given year kept them trying to throw together a competitive team every year, which kept them from ever building a contender. It feels like Vancouver is the last team hanging onto that philosophy.

While I agree, what he said is purely speculative at best. Any time someone tells you it’s their “gut feeling”, it’s speculative.

That was what I was hoping for but Montreal was smart and Got Gorton right away then found a french speaking guy to do the media talking while Gorton does most of the work behind the scenes.

Canucks could make a turnaround sooner than many think if they get some great returns for players on the team...means you have to be willing to trade EP for example. But clearing his 7m while gaining top assets that will be on ELC's helps the team suffer through the remaining OEL deal for example.

I really need to get a job as a sports writer, it would be so blippin easy. Ready for my resume titles?.

"Toronto unhappy with Marner, teams have been circling"

"Avalanche internally discussing blowing up D core after disappointing start to season"

"MTL and VGK looking to connect on another potentially massive deal"

Like literally just make stuff up, and 0 ramifications. We are in the wrong profession gentlepeople....

Vancouver fans literally actually unironically on suicide watch

Meh, we haven't won anything with him or any of the other players we have.

If you're the best player on the team, your job is to help others get better.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of that going on...

Just rebuild already.
