If the sports hernia had impact we'd have seen it by now. He returned from the hernia last winter and produced points at a better clip than he had pre-hernia.
yeah last year when he came back he showed no ill-effects. this year he did start out pretty poorly, a lot of it imo seemed to be due to timing, and just being off on a pass or shot or stick-handling. i liken it to trying to come into a game or competition cold w/ no warm-up while everyone else has been playing for a while..... which is essentially kind of what happened w/ him missing Training-Camp. he has been much better as of late

IMO he's more of a luxury than a necessity. I would be ok trading him for a top pairing dman if such a trade could be made.
i wonder which team out there just so happens to view their top-pairing Dman as more of a luxury than a necessity as well to make that happen 🤔

Ehlers has always needed to develop his "man strength" to do the things he did in the Q in the NHL. I remember watching him on the mooseheads and thinking he would be a 90 point player in the NHL. Health issues have plagued him. I believe the best is yet to come with Ehlers and his career will be great going over age 30 and beyond....

I suspect he is traded at the end of the year.

Could even be trade deadline fodder for the right price.

Why do you think that ? Trade fodder ? No way he gets traded but even if he was it sure wouldn't be a nothing trade.Connor is out for 2 months, if anything Chevy needs to add one more good forward even after Connor is back.

Trading Ehlers would be like trading an underperforming stock with fixed issues. There's a big risk that his best years are ahead of him, I know it's not typical to peak at 30 and beyond but Blake Wheeler certainly did and many others.

The only scenario I could think of where Ehlers would be traded would be next year's trade deadline (when he's a UFA), and only if they have an internal replacement (Chibrikov, Lambert, etc.).

I could see that as move to shore up a position of need, or to get a 1st round pick to help replenish the prospect pool.

The only way Ehlers gets traded if he wants to move on after the season. But my guess he is just fine with his spot on the team. I think he was okay being the guy used to drive the second line and 2nd PP, and now that he is getting prime usage playing alongside Scheifele on the top line he is loving it. I'm still calling 7 X $7.75 extension sometime between the end of this season and the start of next.

When Ehlers is on, he can play with anyone - hoping he can maintain some consistency in this game this season because when he is playing like he is right now, he makes us a lot better in a lot of ways.
Yup, he's gotta stay healthy.

Ehlers and his agent would take that offer as an insult and it wouldn’t even start the discussion. There is also a very good chance none of our current prospects become as good as player as him and for sure none are ready to replace him anytime soon.
7M is to much for a sub 60 point player.
While I love watching Ehlers play he is what he is. A consistent 50 point player made of glass.
5/6 x 6M is as high as I want the Jets to go. If that is a "insult" offer I trust Chevy to trade him for some good value that will make the team over all better. If we learnt anything about the PLD situation is trading for good quantity of players that adds to overall depth of team can still be a big win for the Jets when the best player of the trade is going the other way. The fact is the PLD trade made the Jets a much better team with good depth.

I have to disagree here, as I think Ehlers could command around $ 8 mil in the free market, if he was a UFA. That is if he can show he can stay relatively healthy ? A good comparison to Ehlers is Nylander,( Leafs) who's also blazing fast, and I hear he wants around $ 10 mil or more.

Right now we're getting a real good deal on Ehlers in my opinion, at around $ 6 mil. He should be at least an 80 point player with the speed and shot he has, but injuries and a lack of playing time ( PP) from past coaches have brought down his numbers. He can't put a full season of high production together so far, and I'm hoping he does. Very exciting player to watch IMO, and one of my favourite Jets.

I see your reasoning on this matter tho, as he hasn't put it all together yet, and I hope this is the year. He has it in him.

I think that's about right Bogo. Worth every penny of that. You give him lot of powerplay minutes, and great linemates like Scheifele, and he's an 80 point player, "if" he can stay healthy. Watch and see now his "per game" production with Connor out for 2 months. It will shoot way up.

Ehlers is 27 years old. What we have seen so far is what he is.
At 8M it is a huge over payment.
I do agree that some team will pay him 8m as a free agent but he is not worth that.
Let another team make that mistake.
If he won't sign for under 7M in Winnipeg trade him over this comming off season.
Don't make the mistake of loyalty and over pay a middle of the road top 6 NHL forward.
As for Nylander, he is a much better and consistent player then Ehlers.

He is a 60-70 point player currently. This is if he plays an entire season.
Perhaps 7M is fair for 8 years, but not more than that salary amount.

He is one of my favourite players, I think Winnipeg should keep him, but not on an overpayment.

I would be willing to go close to 7 because you need some speed on your team especially one that can put the puck in the net. Totally agree about the PLD trade, it made us much better but you can't expect Chevy to make such a one sided trade all the time so who knows what a trade for Ehlers would do to the team, it could easily make us weaker too .

I feel confident that Chevy will make the right call, likely a deal that will have most of us pretty happy.

What I do know is if Nik wants to stay, the org. will work hard to make that happen

I think he's likely a 7 million dollar player aav. based on Connors contract.

7×6 would make me happy considering all the variables
